By 1976, the Bee Gees had released the smash albums, "Main Course" and "Children of the World", and had pulled off the two #1 singles, "Jive Talkin" and "You Should Be Dancin". Feeling the high of their first successful streak in nearly 4 years, the Bee Gees decided to embark on an extensive concert tour throughout the country. One concert, performed at the Forum in LA, was recorded and planned on as being released as the first ever-live Bee Gees album. The Bee Gees presented a fantastic concert on the night of December 20th 1976! From the show opener "Gotta Get A Message To You", to the lively concluding number, "Lonely Days", the Bee Gees gave a very enthusiastic and enjoyable performance. Barry's renditions of "Words" and "Love So Right" are very memorable, and Robin's vibrato blasting lead in "I Started A Joke" and "Massachusetts" is outstanding! The brotherly harmonies are impeccable throughout each incredible song on the two-disc set. Because of the incredible variety of songs from dance music, balladry, and 60's pop, it doesn't take much to enjoy this album. I'm particularly partial to the incredibly energetic version of "Jive Talkin" and the beautifully performed, "Nights On Broadway". The Bee Gees are truly masters in all aspects of music, including live performance. "Here At Last...Bee Gees...Live" is really a fine example of the Bee Gees' ability to give a nearly flawless live performance. All in all, this is a wonderful CD to have in any collection, and by far one of the finest concerts ever released on record.

Fijacion Oral vol. 1 Review

Fijacion Oral vol. 1

It may take a few listens before it takes hold, but Shakira's "Fijación Oral, Vol. 1" is an outstanding collection of music that is ideal for summer listening. Without a doubt, the Latina beauty's vocals have never sounded so impassioned and sincere.
On the wistful ballads "Obtener Un Sí (To Obtain a Yes)" and "En Tus Papilas (In Your Pupils)," she is absolutely enchanting, delivering her lines in a sensual fashion that will enamor listeners with their syrupy sentiments. The latter's chorus is particularly hard to shake.
"And there's something/Something in you/Something between the two of us/When I look in the pupils of your eyes I know that God still exists/You make him live."
Love doesn't always work out so well for the Colombian/Lebanese chanteuse, however, and she reveals this well in "La Pared (The Wall)" and "No." In the former, she makes a zealous plea for her love to reconsider leaving, for after him is nothing but a wall. In the latter she takes a much different stance, having the strength to tell her man that she must regretfully sever ties with him, for "one can't live with so much venom."
She is still able to find optimism, however, with the soaring "Las de La Intuición (Woman's Intuition)."
"I think I'm starting to understand/That we desired each other before we were born/I get the feeling the action is about to begin/And us women are the ones with intuition."
There are not as many uptempos as usual this time around. Nevertheless, the singer/songwriter gets her rock chick fix with the feisty "Escondite Inglés (English Hideout)," and lead single "La Tortura (The Torture)," featuring Alejandro Fernandez, is a slick, sexy party record that becomes addictive very soon. The latter has ridden atop Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart for weeks.
The album closes with an impressive acoustic version of "La Pared" and the Shaketon Remix of "La Tortura." A DualDisc is available with interview footage, English translations and the "La Tortura" video. "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2," the English-language counterpart to this project, will arrive in November.

My daughter got this DVD for a Christmas present and it has been heavily played by every member of our family since. If you even remotely like the Rejects you are going to want to check out the DVD.
It has songs from their first CD. Nothing from the CD Move Along will be on this DVD. There are videos on it, there is concert footage, and there is footage of the guys hanging around their hometown of Stillwater, OK.
It is a DVD I let my 8 year old watch so, for the most part, it is an all ages DVD. Minor use of swear words.

Australia's own disco-diva godess Kylie reaches new heights on her first live CD. Dismissed years ago as a dance music puppet with British production wizards SAW pulling the strings, Kylie proves that not only can she sing but she can provide a thoroughly entertaining performance. Highlights of this CD include Abba's Dancing Queen, Too Far (a great version of the opening track from her 1998 Impossible Princess CD) and Better The Devil You Know which she performed with the Sydney Marching Boys. This is a must for anyone who enjoyed her live shows as I did.

Kylie's 1998 & first live album! Taken from her sold-out Australian tour, it includes red hot versions of her hits 'IShould Be So Lucky' (a jazzy torch rendition!), 'What Do I Have To Do' (with a 4-4 straight ahead rock beat) & 'ConfideIn Me' (acoustic guitar version), plus covers of The Clash's'Should I Stay Or Should I Go', ABBA's 'Dancing Queen' and, of course, her smash take on Little Eva's 'Loco-motion'. 21 tracks total. 1998 Mushroom Records release. Live recordings of some of the best bands in the world rarely, if ever, truly capture the essence of the live performance. Now meet the exception. Although Gary Loizzo is behind the mixing of this album, it is still truly one of the best produced recordings of Styx' career. I mention the above only because I thought that Styx' production values dropped considerably after Pieces of Eight, when they replaced Barry Mraz with Loizzo for Cornerstone and future albums, including the horrible Caught in the Act live album of '84. All of those albums sounded cheap and tinny with a production sound made for adult contemporary radio rather then rock. You can blame Dennis' songwriting from 79-83 for that as well.
But here on Return to Paradise, Styx is in the finest form of their career. Dennis and Tommy's vocals and instrumentals are spectacular. Chuck's bass lines are thundering, JY's guitar playing could set fire to a lake, and newcomer Todd Sucherman is a drum god! The highlight of this album is Suite Madame Blue. You can scrap the original recording and go with this version in a heartbeat.
I don't miss Dennis' egotistically overblown ballads, and the current Dennis-less lineup is a total joke. But for one magical night in 1997, Styx recaptured the magic and put on the best show of their career! And how lucky we are that they captured it on CD and DVD.
I do have to note one rather odd observation: I saw them on 3 different nights for this tour, and can tell you that every song intro and/or comment made between songs was rehearsed and repeated word-for-word at every show. You would think that a band who has been in the business for 30 years would be creative enough to ad-lib just a little bit.

If you're new to Van, start with his GREATEST HITS, VOL.1. If you're an established Van fan & looking for a live album that's nothing but Van, go with IT'S TOO LATE TO STOP NOW. But if you're looking for a live album that's a collaborative effort with great guest artists & plenty of soloing by the band, this is the one. I was initially hesitant because I don't care for medleys or extended jams. I expected it to sound fragmented & disjointed, but the whole show flows naturally. Van does indeed prove himself to be a generous artist, allowing others plenty of time in the spotlight, & the show is all the more entertaining for it. The guest artists enhance the performance, rather than getting in the way. Brian Kennedy & Van's own daughter, Shana, are both amazing vocalists. Candy Dulfer is great on sax, as is Georgie Fame on organ. Van, himself, even seems to be enjoying the show, in contrast to his more straight-to-the-point approach on IT'S TOO LATE TO STOP NOW. The back of the CD pretty much sums it up; ballads, blues, soul, funk & jazz (and I would add gospel). If you like these varied styles of music and a performer who's great at every one of them, don't hesitate to get this one.

Genesis did not "stab their fans in the back" with Abacab. The "fans" who felt this way (like trickoftail and all the rude boo-ers from the Abacab tour) were never really Genesis fans in the first place. They were just progressive rock fans who liked Yes/ELP/Rush etc. and some of the longer epic pieces and concept albums that Genesis did.
Yes, Abacab doesn't sound like early Genesis or other early prog bands...so what? It's still a great album full of fresh, creative ideas. Progressive rock isn't the only good style of music on the planet. To say that this is on the same level as Backstreet Boys or N'Sync is just plain ignorant, just as it is to say that it sounds just like Phil Collins' solo material. The only songs that sound anything like Phil solo on this album are No Reply At All and Man On The Corner, the rest are definitely Genesis songs.
Bottom line: if you only like the prototypical "progressive" side of Genesis, like the 10-minute epics and the long keyboard/guitar solos and the classical-sounding arrangements and the concept albums, then you might not like this album. But if you like bands that aren't afraid to change their sound and experiment with new ideas (which is the REAL meaning of "progressive"), then give this one a chance.

I really don't get all this business about this album being too 'whiney'. The only whining I hear is the people reviewing it. I think it's just a fine album. My CD doesn't have the bonus track, but I think it still sounds great. It runs the gamut from Rock to ballads and does it successfully. I love 'There goes the Neighborhood' and obviously 'My Favorite Mistake', but the sound of the CD is well-rounded all over. I like the whole concept of making the disc sound like it was recorded on an old reel-to-reel tape recorder. My opinion is that if you like Sheryl Crow, then you should buy this album and form your own ideas about whether you like it or not. I almost didn't buy this CD because of the things that I had heard about it. I would've been missing out. Don't let that happen to you.

With hip hop beats that spiral out of control, some deep fuzz bass that will shake the fillings loose in your teeth and a batch of compositions that sound completely unique and fresh from one another these 3 production geeks have created one of the most eccletic and diverse albums of the year. Originally released in Finland before U.S. domestic release Pepe Deluxe have managed to churn out a 2001 hip grabbag of sorts that shines. With sprinkles of old 45 scratches and smoke filled upright bass riffs makes you wonder how vast and expansive these guys' record collection really is. There is something for everyone here that is the super sound of Pepe Deluxe. A mix of of Big Beat, Electro, acid jazz and rump shakin dance floor epics geared to make you listen and learn where the new skool of sound is heading. Straight outta Finland!

Pop Til You Drop Review

If you're looking for the ultimate summer jam, the A-teens are your best choice. Ever since their 1998 debut, ABBA GENERATION, the A-Teens have been THE source for pure teen pop. Though US reputation isn't exactly where it should be, the A-teens are mega superstars worldwide... and they deserve it.
POP TILL YOU DROP, their junior release, is the best yet. They have Britney's beats - without the sensuality, N*sync's lyrics - minus the tacky boyband charisma, and voice of their own. This album has set the A*teens apart from other bands. They open up with a great dance track, Floorfliller, slow it down a bit with songs like Can't help falling in love and hi/goodbye, Latin out with Cross My Heart, and add their own techno/80's/r&b vibe to songs like Slam, Oh Oh. Yea, and Closer to perfection. Unlike Teen Spirit, the ballads on Pop Till You Drop are uplifting.
But who are the A-teens? Before this album, they were just a nameless face in the croud of "wannabe popstars". I can see this band getting a lot of mileage out of this album... if only they could get play on MTV. At least they get the help of Alice Cooper. If not this time, it's certain that the A-Teens will get the respect they deserve for this hot as summer, fresh, and youthful album.

Matchbox Twenty Live in Australia is the best video ever! It brings out all the guy's personalities and has interviews with the entire band. It also has concert footage and music videos for Push, Back 2 good, real world, and long day. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan, or just looking for some laughs, this is one of the most amusing things i've ever seen. Calling All Stations Review

If the departure of Peter Gabriel was a real blow for the band back in 1975 then the departure of Phil Collins should spell their imminent demise. Commercially Genesis will almost certainly never recover but musically they have gone and produced arguably their best and most consistent album since 'Duke'.
It is fairly certain that messers Banks and Rutherford are in a financial position not to have to worry about sales and so instead they concentrate on the traditional strengths of Genesis: high quality prog rock. This will not please fans of 'Invisible Touch' or the dull 'We Can't Dance' but long term fans will find plenty to enjoy. 'Congo' is an terrific single and deserved greater radio play while 'One Man's fool' is one of the best things the band have ever done. 'The Dividing Line' and 'There Must Be Some Other Way' also have a power and ambience that was completely lacking in recent albums.
The multi-talented Collins requires two replacements and both handle things admirably. Ray Wilson has a pleasing, soulful voice and the unpronouncable Nir Zidkyahu is a fine drummer and sometimes sounds uncannily like Collins, particularly on 'One Man's Fool'.
There are possibly one or two tracks too many on the album - something that could be said for many Genesis albums from the seventies onwards - and those who were fans of Genesis purely for Phil Collins should steer clear. Everyone else can purchase without hesitation.

America Underwater Review

When I heard Lovehatehero's new album would come out this year, I was psyched. Their last album, White Lies, was amazing. This metal-edged punk-screamo outfit managed to tap into raw anger, sorrow, happiness, and love with well-written, dynamic, catchy melodies. I was hoping that their new album would have that same range of emotional expression and musical diversity.
My hopes were crushed. Utterly. The edgy, angry punk/metal-esque elements have been removed altogether and what remains is whiny, emo, pop-rock. It's as if the band was kidnapped and replaced by clones who can only write empty flat songs that are pale imitations of the genuine article. The only track that hints at the genius of their last album is Echoes, and even that is stretch. The production values have suffered as well. The guitars sound thin, emasculated along with the rest of the music I suppose. And the lyrics border on being infantile - "It's as easy as 1, 2, 3, L-O-V-E" is a quote from Think Twice (Running With Scissors Pt. II), which is an unworthy sequel to a powerful, moving song from their previous album.
I'm not someone who likes a band to release the same album over and over again for their entire career, which is the story of all too many metal and punk bands (and rappers, for that matter). I'm all for experimenting and growing musically.
However, "American Underwater" is not a bold experiment gone wrong. The album is "playing it safe" via a piss-poor attempt to blend into the mainstream by ditching the rough lyrical and musical edges that made the band original and interesting in the first place. Whether or not this was done to increase record sales is not something I care to speculate on - calling a band a sellout is a serious charge - but this review is about results, not motivations.
Lovehatehero's label, Ferret Music, stated in their press release for this album: "the band retooled their sound. The result was a record that focuses more on their well-developed vocal melodies and cleanly polished hooks. Nearly reinventing themselves as a whole, the group dropped a lot of the edginess from their songs, using it sparingly instead of as a crutch to rest on. For this release, 'maturing as songwriters' wasn't just a cliché." They went on to claim that the album was filled with "anthemic, pop-laced rock songs."
Any time you see a label jumping with joy about a band's reinvention, dropped edginess, new-found "maturity," and "anthemic, pop-laced" songs, brace yourself. You are about to be bored to death by focus group-approved easy listening. I can only hope that they return to their "immature" roots with their next release. In the meantime, I'll be listening to White Lies, hoping.

When LoveHateHero exited Dreamlab Productions with ten anthemic pop laced rock songs, powered by Pierrick's signature vocals and Kevin Gruft's relentless guitar attack. With Scot Gee(drums) and Paris Bosserman (bass solidifying the rhythm section, the band steamrolls forward with more passion and fervor than ever. LoveHateHero now looks to blast headfirst into 2009 with the release of Fight or Flight and endless touring to support the album and spread their sound to new listeners. Look for them later this spring supporting the release of Fight or Flight and later this year on Warped Tour!

The great myth of 1966-67 was that the Monkees could not play their own instruments.LIVE(1967) destroys that theory. It was a challenge to Mike, Mickey,Peter and Davy to be a true rock group and make it live. There were a lot a detractors begging for them to fail.Happily the Monkees came through with no second guitarist,an inadequate sound system, and a liberal douse of on-stage banter. If mike was tuning up, a joke would be made out of it.The ad-libbing the boys got up to was a joy to hear. The music sounds a little ragged, but as said, the sound system was quite primitive;and anyway, who can compete with over 10000 screaming teenyboppers! This album was kept in the can until the music could be separated from the screams(it was originally was to be released in 1967).Every member was given a solo spot to shine.Concert highlights include:YOU JUST MAY BE THE ONE,FORGET THAT GIRL,CRIPPLE CREEK,YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY LOOKING AT THE COVER,I WANNA BE FREE,RANDY SCOUSE GIT.This is a great addition to any Monkees collection.

Let Go Review

Let Go
Average Reviews:

Avril Lavigne's album Let Go has easily become my favorite CD. I'm not here to discuss her authenticity as a skater girl- this CD, on it's own, is an amazing effort and has shown that music can be unique and be real and still have mainstream appeal. I purchased this CD when i heard the song "Complicated". I truly enjoyed that song and was expecting a lot from Avril. I was not disappointed. Here is a song by song account of what this album has to offer.
1.Losing Grip- A guitar driven pop song. It is something unusual to find in a teen pop artist. Lots of Avril's lyrics can apply to many different situations, that is what I like about this song. I like that it's angry but not to the point of Alanis, there is still a sweetness, she's angry but she's over it and will survive.
2.Complicated- I'm not going to go into detail explaining this song, we've all heard it or you wouldn't be reading this review. A very melodic song with a catchy chorus.
3.Sk8ter Boi- Avril's truly punk song. The story is about a skater boy who likes one of the popular girls, she rejects him even though she likes him (peer pressure). Later he has success on MTV and Avril is his girlfriend. Musically is could have been done by a group like Blink 182.
4.I'm With You- not a bad song but not that good. this is the reason it's only 4 stars and not five. it's a slow song but i didn't think it was that great. the lyrics are alright and the melody is fine. nothing special
5.Mobile- one of the best songs on the album. has a good folk kinda sound. with the guitars. there is a very catchy chorus. the songs is about changes which we can all relate to.
6.Unwanted- a rock sounding song. Another song that also applies to so many different situations. I love how this song sound so loud and you can just picture is being played live. Another great song from this album. I love what Avril does with her voice, it sounds so pure and every word is so strong and so serious. amazing song.
7.Tomorrow- A very beautiful slow song. Simply about not being ready for something today but tomorrow is another day. I think that the message is good for everyone and can apply to so many situations. It's about being true to yourself and not doing what other people want you to until you are ready.
8.Anything But Ordinary- Most people don't want to be average and this song is about not being average. That is a great message. Life isn't about fitting in but doing your own thing. Great beat, an uptempo song. You will love it and be singing along with the song before you know it.
9.Things I'll never say- this song is about having so much inside that you can't say to the person even if you want to. I can personally relate so this has become my favorite song. A great beat and chorus that is catchy. This is where Avril's song writting skills excel.
10.My World- A song about the place where Avril grew up. It applies to so many aspects of average american suburbia (even though she is from canada). It's the mindset of those who grew up in suburban areas. A nice song. What I like is that it is truly authentic, this is the story of avril's life.
11. Nobody's Fool- Avril sorta rap/talks the verses of this song. I don't like that part to much but I love the chorus, it is so catchy and has a message- do what you want and don't change just because someone else wants you to. This is what Avril did, she didn't become Britney Spears but became her own person.
12. Too Much Too Ask- a song about a relationship that didn't work out. she says "you can't see the world through a mirror" which is so true. i think it has a similar theme to the song "complicated" but has a completely different feel musically. I really love this song. great chorus.
13. Naked- it's about being vulnerable and learning to be vulnerable to the people you trust. a very pretty song and i believe it makes a perfect end to this album. Very true lyrics. it's good to listen to the words because you can learn some valuable lessons about becoming who you are.
Avril Lavigne has an amazing voice and can write great songs. I hope that she has a lot of success in the future because she is very talented. I suggest that you purchase this album because it is worth every penny. thank you
