Alas y Raices Review

Alas y Raices

Eros Ramazzoti is back with another fantastic production called "Alas Y Raices", a great album full of amazing tunes perfomed with the elegant voice of Eros. The signature song of the album is "Dimelo a Mi", which is the first single, and it a great song, and easily places itself between Eros' best creations. "Apuntes y Notas" is highly recommended, because is has a surprising sound and to me it's the best non-single song in the album. Eros once again sings to love in songs like "Flor Inesperada" and "El Horizonte", only in the way he can. There are more cheerful songs like "Afectos Personales" and "No podemos cerrar los Ojos". The song "Alas y Raices" is another fantastic tune full of harmony, that reminds me of "Calma Aparente". I wouldn't say it the best album of Eros, but it is pretty enjoyable. If you are an Eros fan, or if you like his music enough, then this is a must-own. Eros is simply one of the best Italian singers of all time.

Oasis: Lord Don't Slow Me Down (2007) Review

Oasis: Lord Don't Slow Me Down (2007)
Average Reviews:

In Spring, 2005, Oasis released its 6th studio album "Don't Believe the Truth", and immediately went on the road for what seemed to be a never-ending tour around the world in support of the album. The tour eventually wound up a full year later. This DVD is the chronicle of that tour.
"Lord Don't Slow Me Down" is split up in 2 DCDs. On DVD 1 (105 min.) it brings a documentary of what it's like to be on the road for such a long tour, and if there is one word that I can think of, it's "slug", as in: it's a slug to be touring. The documentary shows the band going from the hotel or the tour bus to yet another airport and another concert venue. The guys play cards a lot, do endless media interviews and other promotions, and generally do a lot of waiting around. Fun is different, it seems to me. The best part here is the 10-15 min. Q&A bonus at the end with Noel, where he takes questions from the audience (not sure where or who), answering questions like what he thinks his most Beatles-esque song is (that would be "All Around the World", according to Noel).
On DVD2 (90 min.), it brings the full show of Oasis' home-coming show in Manchester in July 2005. It sounds great, but the set is heavy on tracks from the mediocre "Don't Believe the Truth" and even worse, the setlist is simply too predictable. With as rich a back-catalogue as Oasis has, surely the band could've uncovered some better songs to play? I saw Oasis twice on this tour, and the setlist was virtually identical. As to the bonus materials, there are 12 clips from fans who were at the show and used their cell phone or digicam to prove it. Not surprisingly, these clips are virtually unwatchable due to the poor sound and/or video quality. In all, "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" is pretty much a letdown for me. If you want to watch Oasis at its best live, I would much rather recommend 1996's "There and Then" concert video, which is miles better than this.

There is little doubt that Pearl Jam is one of the best live rock bands in the planet, as anyone can confirm by listening to any of the 150+ live bootlegs they released in the past few years.
'Immagine in Cornice' is actually a documentary about the band's tour of Italy. It does a great job showing the backstage activities, together with commentaries and interviews with the band. However, the music is still the most important part, with superb performances of new songs and old classics. It also helps that the italian audience is very enthusiastic - they really make the concerts even better to watch.
Another highlight of this DVD is the picture quality and cinematography. Although the DVD is not Hi-Def, everything was shot in Hi-Def and it pays off - the picture quality is stunning.
You will not be disappointed.

Once again Eros Ramazzotti landing strong on European charts, enters the top 5 in every non-English speaking European country. This is no surprise to see this overwhelming Italian pop artist competing with such world-wide popular acts as The Beatles or Backstreet Boys(who are also at the moment occupying high chart positions everywhere). People in Europe have been listening to Eros' music for almost 18 years without properly understanding his lyrics. And one, who loves music, does not have to understand the lyrics of Ramazzotti because he communicates with his fans through his high quality-romantic music and beautifully arranged vocals. His latest Album "Stilelibero" (freestyle), released on October 23, 2000 has already gone gold and even platinum in some important European music markets including Germany's. "Stilelibero" contains many breathtaking tracks including "Fuoco Nel Fuoco," which was the first single released from the album, the album also includes a track that no one would want to miss is of course "Piu Che Puoi" (duet with Cher), and one that I would not forget to mention is "Amica Donna Mia." Despite the fact that the album has been released also in Spanish version for his Spanish speaking fans, BMG has plans for making the English version of the album as well.

Incanto: The Deluxe Edition (Limited CD & DVD) Review

Incanto: The Deluxe Edition (Limited CD and DVD)

A voice like Andrea Bocelli's only comes along every generation or so, (if that) Caruso, Lanza, Pavarotti and Now Bocelli; They are my big 4. Not only does Bocelli have wonderful opera skills, but also tremendous pop singing skills, as well. As for classical singing; Bocelli's breath control is amazing; no one holds high, mid, and low notes (sang either intensely or softly) as long as Bocelli does. His diction is excellent; His tone is wonderful; His color is right in sink to the song being performed, dark or light, and all shads around those as needed. He has that tenor ring that can rise up over an orchestra, he sings just beautifully. As for his pop singing again it's spectacular; Bocelli can sing a pop song either in a classical way, or a bluesy way or almost anyway. He has tremendous versatility, I would rank him right at the top of pop singing for all time. Bocelli can sing big, bold, intense and beautiful, or can show us a soft side it seems like he is singing in one's ear, very sweetly and beautiful.
In canto is a CD of classic Italian love songs (Naples) and are many songs that Andrea has loved since childhood and most of us are familiar with. These songs were made famous by the great tenors of the 19th and 20th centuries, . In canto song selection includes Mamma; O surdato 'nammurato , Era di maggio , Un amore cosi grande , Non ti scordar di me; Funiculi Funicula; Granada, Voglio vivere cosi, Santa Lucia, Pulcinella, Non ti scordar di me, Marechiare, Vieni sul mar, Because, E vui durmiti ancora, Amapola, Un amore cosi grande. It is a wonderful selecton and I love the inclusion of Because, which I have heard Andrea sing live many times, It is the best version since Mario Lanza, and belive it or not Bocelli hits an even higher end note. You will enjoy all the songs hear they are wonderfully done.
The DVD extra on the deluxe edition is nice as well. the making of the album and a nostalgic look back at Naples.
This is a must have Bocelli CD.

The deluxe limited edition (CD & DVD) sets Andrea's songs in the romantic context of 1950s Naples. The limited deluxe package features 14 newly recorded songs and video footage of Incanto The Documentary - a Documentary about a time period in Italy when Naples & Rome were the "center of the world of romance." The footage shows scenes of Italy in `50's along with the iconic figures who lived, loved and laughed in this bygone era. The DVD also includes a music video of "Un Amore Cosi Grande" the opening track from Incanto, all in a hard bound book / "O" card package.
The archive materials provide a nostalgic snapshot of 1950s glamour, when Naples was the honeypot for the rich and famous. The footage captures the spirit of romance and optimism during the days of Andrea's childhood - a sense of optimism prevalent in post war Italy around the time of Andrea's birth is captured by the visual themes of the album. The incomparable natural beauty of southern Italy is celebrated, as well as the magical aura of the 1950s and La dolce vita , which has enchanted generation upon generation since. The DVD also includes an interview with Andrea shot in different locations in Naples. Andrea Bocelli's new studio album is a collection of the most famous Italian songs - including Mamma , Funiculi Funicula and Santa Lucia . They are the songs which have enchanted Andrea since childhood. Released to coincide with his 50th birthday, the album is a personal tribute to his musical heritage. Popularized through concert, radio and record and the film industry by the great tenors of the 19th and 20th centuries, this selection of songs is a celebration of the Italian tenor tradition . Thanks to the legendary voices of Enrico Caruso, Beniamino Gigli, Franco Corelli, Mario Lanza and Luciano Pavarotti, these songs have become a huge global export and fuelled the romance of generations to come. Incanto is also a homage to Love . It includes a group of songs which have told love stories in music for the past 170 years. The repertoire is a tribute to the many faces and places of love: love for a mother (Mamma); love for a woman (O surdato 'nammurato , Era di maggio , Un amore cosi grande , Non ti scordar di me ); love for a place (the pier in Santa Lucia, Mount Vesuvio in Funiculi Funicula ); love for a city (Napoli, Granada) and love for a country (Italy). Love for Italy , and a particular affection for Naples are prevalent themes throughout Incanto. Andrea has chosen one contemporary Neapolitan song - the "tarantella" Pulcinella , which highlights his fond connection to Naples and the city's unique position in the past, present and future of Italian song.

I don't know how to describe this great musician. I think that something important to say is that I'm able to speak Italian because of his music. I don't know what he does but his songs are not the classic "POP". He actually describes human feeling as no one else does. What I mean? Songs like "Sta Passando Novembre"(a song that talks about suicide). In this album all songs are great but there are some special songs, at least for me a person who suffers from depression, that I found truly special.
"Il Cammino"/"El camino"
"Ali e radici"/"Alas y raíces"
These songs talk about someone who is trying to on in Life even if everything seems so hard, It can be about love or any other goal.
"Come Gioelli"/"Como un tesoro": It talks about the beauty of a children's smile or a mother's kiss, about the real treasures of Life.
"Parla con me"/"Dímelo a mí": I find this one truly special because of my condition (depression). It talks about someone who is having so many problems and needs someone to listen to him...
It says
"Parla con me, Io ti ascolterò e non ti giudicherò"
ENGLISH: Talk to me , I will listen to you and I won't judge you.
There are other several beautiful songs. This CD is a piece of art.

Sting - All This Time (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I pre-ordered the DVD before it came out because I saw the show on A&E. The most remarkable part of the DVD is the sound. During the concert you feel like you are sitting in Tuscany with a glass of Chianti and listening to Sting perform at his house. I own at least 10 other DVD live concerts and this is by far the best sound quality. The documentary part is fascinating because during the rehearsals Sting could not have anticipated what was going to happen right before the show. The rehearsal sessions are excellent as you watch the musicians work through the songs. Then on September 11th Sting must make an excruciating decision on whether to perform the concert. In the end he changes the song list to reflect the emotional moment and the result is an emotionally charged performance that cannot be duplicated. Fragile is appropriatly the first song. Obviously, I would have liked to see some of the lighter songs, but under the circumstances it was amazing that they were able to perform at all.

Venice: A Musical Journey - A Musical Tour of the City's Past and Present
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I watched this right after the awful "A Travelers Guide To Italy" DVD, and this prodution shines by comparison. The music is taseful, and the camera-work is professional, giving good views of Venice. It does get a bit repetitive. There are too many shots of small side canals in overcast weather, and not enough panoramic views to help orient the viewer. Very little of the video was shot on sunny days, whic may reflect the budget of the production as much as it does the local weather. Some brighter scenes might have brought out the beauty of the city more. All the camera angles are simple ones on the ground or a boat, much as one could get with a decent 3-chip camera and a tripod. I realize crane and helicopter shots are expensive, but one feels the lack of budget when trying to get an overview of an entire city.
As a mood piece it is OK. As a preview for a visitor (my intended use), it is lacking.

Considering its low price, it is a great value to remind you of your trip to Florence. Everyone can have an opinion if it should include this place or the other, and it depends what sites you had time to visit, but it is a great way to sit in front of the TV, thinking: "I was there" and listening to great music.
The connection between the music and the sites is kind of general, but good enough for the purpose.
