Get the Party Started - Australia Review

Get the Party Started - Australia

This another hit from our favorite Pink haired celebrity. Written by Linda Perry, this is a great song for a party...
Track 01: Get the Party Started (Radio Mix) (3:12)- This is the one I heard on the radio. When the DJ said it was Pink, I couldn't believe my ears; she sounds so different from her first singles. The only difference I notice from the Radio Mix and the Album Version is that she says `end' instead of `a**,' for censoring purposes.
Track 02: Get the Party Started/Sweet Dreams featuring Redman (4:04)- What happens when Get the Party Started by Pink and Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These) by The Eurythmics are combined? This song, produced by Rockwilder, uses Pink's vocals from Get the Party Started and the melody from Sweet Dreams to make an unforgettable song. The Eurythmics weren't in it, for the vocals of Sweet Dreams, but Pink sings both songs. Pink's vocals were re-recorded for this mix, so the notes sounds different. Redman, the rapper, also make an appearance in this song too, for raps throughout the song. The song also features the highest note I ever heard Pink sing. A song everyone should listen to.
Track 03: Get the Party Started (Pink Noise Disco) (Radio Edit) (3:44)- A good disco version of Get the Party Started, not as good as Track 02 but worth listen to. Very uplifting and danceable. The only thing that could make this was if this was the 12" version instead of the radio edit, but what could you do?
Track 04: Get the Party Started (Instrumental) (3:14)- It's very weird just to hear the instruments of this song, but it's sounds good to hear each instrument, some that you don't even realize are there. But, I think the CD would've been better off without this.
Get the Party Started is a magnificent song for a pink haired girl we call, Pink. I recommend this CD to everyone, no matter what kind of music they like. Track 02 is definitely worth the money.

If you're looking for the ultimate summer jam, the A-teens are your best choice. Ever since their 1998 debut, ABBA GENERATION, the A-Teens have been THE source for pure teen pop. Though US reputation isn't exactly where it should be, the A-teens are mega superstars worldwide... and they deserve it.
POP TILL YOU DROP, their junior release, is the best yet. They have Britney's beats - without the sensuality, N*sync's lyrics - minus the tacky boyband charisma, and voice of their own. This album has set the A*teens apart from other bands. They open up with a great dance track, Floorfliller, slow it down a bit with songs like Can't help falling in love and hi/goodbye, Latin out with Cross My Heart, and add their own techno/80's/r&b vibe to songs like Slam, Oh Oh. Yea, and Closer to perfection. Unlike Teen Spirit, the ballads on Pop Till You Drop are uplifting.
But who are the A-teens? Before this album, they were just a nameless face in the croud of "wannabe popstars". I can see this band getting a lot of mileage out of this album... if only they could get play on MTV. At least they get the help of Alice Cooper. If not this time, it's certain that the A-Teens will get the respect they deserve for this hot as summer, fresh, and youthful album.

Last summer, I took my little sister to see the Jonas Brothers on their Burning Up tour for her 8th grade graduation. As a 23-year-old, I thought I would have a good enough time for what it was--a teeny bopper group whose popularity would fade in a few months. Boy, was I wrong. Their musicality is refreshing, their lyrics well written, and they're even better live than on their CD. This said, this album really takes me back to the night of the concert-the excitement captured from both the Jonas Brothers and the crowd is great and really adds to the overall CD.
The new song is also beautiful; I feel it has a bit of a different sound/vibe than their previous stuff. The line "Leaders, show us how to love each other/It could help us to recover/Love is on its way" makes it especially thought provoking for the distressful times our country is finding itself in right now.
Overall, if you're a fan of the Jonas Brothers, you'll love this CD.

The Best of Hanson Live and Electric (CD & DVD) Review

The Best of Hanson Live and Electric (CD and DVD)

Any way you cut it, these guys have got a tough row to hoe. They had the immensely bad luck of becoming huge before their voices broke, making them the darlings of pre-teen girls worldwide. Since then, they have grown into talented and respectable musicians, but the net result is that the corporate (read ignorant) world of pop music has no idea how to perceive them, and has abandoned them. Left to their own devices on an independent label, the three Hanson brothers must earn credibility all by themselves, and it is going to be one heck of an uphill battle. This live CD compiles some of their better tunes, and displays the legitimate musicianship and songwriting of the band, but I wonder if anyone over twenty is willing to listen.
For starters, you should understand that these guys are for real. They are credible musicians, who want respect as much as they want commercial success. They do not want to lose the fan base that made them famous in the first place, but they need to attract adult fans if they want a lasting, lucrative career. Leading off this live disk with a version of Radiohead's "Optimistic" is a reasonably logical way to do this. Fact is, they do the song justice, too, although I doubt that anyone would choose this version over the original. Their own songs, like "Where's the Love" and "Strong Enough to Break" have great hooks and are sung incredibly well, but I'm not convinced that they are gritty enough to attract 20-35 year-old males, either. Quasi-inspirational lighter ballads like "I Will Come to You" and "Underneath" only make matters worse, especially when programmed back to back. A cover of U2's "In a Little While" will, like the Radiohead song, spark recognition, and perhaps a nod of respect, but they need more if they want to cross over.
There are moments that work beautifully, though. "Penny and Me" is nearly impossible to deny, and "Hand in Hand" supplies the necessary muscle, while giving oldest brother Isaac a chance to stretch out on guitar and vocals. Funnily enough, "MMM-Bop" still sounds great, too, and "This Time Around" also gets close to the groove that they need. "Rock and Roll Razorblade" is an obvious attempt in the right direction, too, but ultimately sounds more like a Bryan Adams outtake. Surprisingly, the most credible moments occur on the bonus DVD disk that accompanies the live CD. The video clips are all excellent, and the live bits should surprise naysayers who insist that Hanson is akin to Milli Vanilli, or some such ignorance. I for one liked Hanson in the "MMM-Bop" days, and I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt now. Besides, I love rooting for the underdog, especially when they're a bunch a nice guys.BTom Ryan

A limited number will come with a companion DVD including never before seen live footage from the associated performance, music videos, photo gallery, and trailer from the band's forthcoming documentary film, "Strong Enough To Break", which will be screened nationwide in conjunction with Hanson's tour. You know you're getting old when your kids start demanding their own CDs, and it seems like that stage occurs earlier and earlier with every generation. After listening to my music for the first seven years of his life, my son now wants exclusive listening rights to his latest favorites, namely Snack Time, Crazy Frog, anything American Idol, Jonas Brothers and now Vanessa Hudgens.
Don't tell him, but this is one I don't mind listening to in the car, especially after months of Davids Cook and Archuleta and the Jonas Brothers "SOS". (Mind you, I still like Crazy Frog - Bam! Bam!)
Hudgens may not be the best singer around, but the arrangements and great song choices make up for this, and her fresh faced good looks don't hurt either. The good songs (even for elderly folk above 25) include first single "Sneakernight" a three minute dance track; first track "Last Night"; the title track; "First Bad Habit"; "Hook It Up" (a Gwen Stefani-type track); "Amazed"; "Don't Leave" and "Did It Ever Cross Your Mind" (mid tempo).
The dance tracks definitely dominate the album, which is a solid follow up to her 2006 debut album "V". Make a note of this one for the "High School Musical" fans on your gift list.Amanda Richards, July 5, 2008

Dignity Review

Don't be fooled by that sultry over-the-shoulder cover photo - Hilary Duff's third studio album bubbles with enthusiastic electro-pop rhythms that would inspire even hardened couch potatoes to take a turn on the dance floor.
First single "Play With Fire" is about a young woman who has gotten over a break-up, and has just encountered the former object of her affection. Though not the best song on the album, it has an infectious '80s style chorus which makes up for a slightly monotonous vocal performance. Second single "With Love" is another '80s retro track and is strictly for dancing, but all is forgiven with the third single "Stranger", which has an unusual Eastern influenced beat running through it. "Stranger" mixes up the rhythms and allows Duff to show a little more range, and the lyrics are also much better than the first two singles. The song is about a couple who appear perfect in public, but this image quickly dissipates when they are alone.
And now for the rest of the album -

The title track is a wickedly funny take on the young publicity-hungry starlets, hotties and heiresses doing the entertainment circuit, and is one of my favorite songs on this album. "Danger" is another track with an Eastern influence, but although I like the beat, the lyrics make me feel really old. (The song is about dating an older man, who was born in 1974 - this makes me archaic) "Gypsy Woman" is about a woman who breaks up a family, a short track which leads into the bouncy "Never Stop", a disco number reminiscent of "Knock on Wood".
The slower paced "No Work No Play" didn't do it for me, but I like how she does the chorus lines - "Let the clouds roll in and fill the sky / Get that melancholy feeling inside". "Between You and Me" is just more of the same old, same old, except for that "oompah oompah" tuba bit, and the intro for "Dreamer" (a song about a stalker) sounds just a bit Paris Hilton in delivery. "Happy" doesn't really come over that way, but it's about a girl getting over a bad relationship and feeling much better about herself. Rounding out the album are "Burned", "Outside of You" (the only song not co-written by Duff, with Pink and Chantal Kreviazuk doing the honors), and "I Wish".
An enjoyable, danceable, guilty pleasure album that you should buy for a teenager and borrow every once in a while.Amanda Richards, April 11, 2007

Dignity isn't for sale. It comes from within. Hilary Duff has always carried herself with dignity, from her 2001 TV debut starring in "Lizzy McGuire," through big screen hits like "Cinderella Story" and "Cheaper by the Dozen," to her career as a multi-platinum recording artist, with more than 13 million albums sold to date. Now Hilary brings her customary class and splash to her new Hollywood Records CD "Dignity. At 19, Hilary has matured into a sophisticated singer and songwriter. Hilary has co-written all the songs on 'Dignity', always aiming high and ultimately creating an album of depth and consequence. To realize her vision for the new CD, she teamed with Grammy-Award winning Kara Dioguardi ( Gwen Stefani, Pussy Cat Dolls, Enrique Iglesias, Kelly Clarkson), as well as top producer/songwriters like Chico Bennett & Richard Vission (Madonna, Usher, Killers), Tim & Bob (Nas, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez), Vada Nobles (Rhianna, Lauryn Hill, Faith Evans, Natasha Bedingfield, Warren G), Fredwrecke (Snoop Dog, Eminem, Fergi) Will.I.Am and Rhett Lawrence. In the title track, she talks about her experiences and observations of living in Los Angeles ("Where's your dignity/I think you lost it in the Hollywood Hills"). "Danger" explores the suspect advances of an older man, while "With Love" turns the world's most common song topic upside down. ("I can take your honesty/All your words weigh heavily/I'm listening to you all the time"). The song 'Stranger' reveals a relationship that is picture perfect in public, but cold behind closed doors. With every track, Hilary probes life and love more intensely, and with more vulnerability than she has before. This is the deluxe CD/DVD version which includes 9 music videos.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

All for Love Review

All for Love

This being New Edition's third complete album, 'All For Love' was the last of their successful bubblegum records. 1986 was around the corner and the sound of music was changing and rap was becoming more popular in mainstream media - which meant fans wanted a more mature sound. In some respects, they got that from "All for Love" and once again, New Edition managed to keep going. The best way to describe this album is that it is a sequel to the previous one, with little change in formula. The album opens up with "Count Me Out" which employs the same sonic elements as "Cool It Now", but the song is still able to satisfy. "A Little Bit Of Love (Is All It Takes)" is the album's standout track, and sounds different than any of their previous material. The album mellows out on "Sweet Thing", another personal favorite of mine. New Edition manages to drop another classic on us in the form of "With You All The Way", which is a distant cousin of "Lost In Love" sonically. After one listen, you cannot deny its power however and quickly realize that this song is a gem.
"Friends" is a mellow song featuring Ricky Bell, Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown, and is the last song in the first five song line-up that is consistently good. This song is innocent yet seductive at the same time, and illustrates the growing up that New Edition must have been going through during this time.
"Kickback" is O.K. Then on "Tonight's the Night", Ralph is able to convey a deep adolescent yearning for intimacy with his loved one. "Whispers In Bed" is the most risque of the ballads on this album, but somehow maintains the same innocence that we have come to expect from New Edition in the early to mid 80s. "Who Can You Trust" is another solo Bobby joint which is nice and catchy - too bad he was not around to push it as a single, it may have had a chance since it sounded somewhat different. The N.E. posse gets together on "School", a rap about the importance of staying in school. The message is good but the format is extremely cheesy. You have to give them props for the effort though.
The title track (and last one) is utterly disappointing. To sum things up, the album starts off strong and goes downhill after "Friends". But it is still a good one to have for any NE fan in that it still has relevance in three hit singles and some noteworthy album tracks.

After much speculation and rumour the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour and Greatest Hits album to the world's media this summer. Fifty five million records sold, an astonishing 9 UK no. 1 singles, three back-to-back Christmas no. 1 singles and with 'Wannabe' the biggest selling single ever by an all female group, the Spice Girls have very little to prove. The band are never out of the media spotlight, the British tabloids and women's magazines adore them and the British public can't get enough. 3.5 million people worldwide have registered for tour tickets, 1 million of those were from the UK.

This is the Asian import version of the Britney Spears album, "Oops!...I Did It Again". It comes packaged in a 2CD jewel case that is inside a paper sleave. The 2CD jewel case cover is the same as all the other versions of this album, while the paper sleave cover is the one you see above. The booklet is exactly the same as the others. As for the songs on, it has a total of 15 tracks:
1. - "Oops!...I Did It Again"
2. - "Stronger"
3. - "Don't Go Knockin' On My Door"
4. - "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
5. - "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know"
6. - "What U See (Is What U Get)"
7. - "Lucky"
8. - "One Kiss From You"
9. - "Where Are You Now"
10. - "Can't Make You Love Me"
11. - "When Your Eyes Say It"
12. - "Girl In The Mirror"
13. - "You Got It All"
14. - "Heart" [Bonus Track]
15. - "Dear Diary"
The CD has "Heart" listed as the only bonus track, but compared to the U.S. version, tracks 12-14 are all bonus tracks. The 2nd CD that comes with this is a VCD (VideoCD - works with DVDs and computers). It contains the following:
1. - "Oops!...I Did It Again" [Full Music Video]
2. - "Lucky" [Full Music Video]
3. - "Stronger" [Full Music Video]
4. - "Oops!...I Did It Again" [Karaoke]
5. - "Lucky" [Karaoke]
6. - "Stronger" [Karaoke]
In case your wondering what it means by 'Karaoke', it means that it shows the music video but it has the words on the screen so you can sing along. The music videos are all complete and they are okay quality. If you would happen to get this CD, pop it into your computer and find the VCD doesn't work (which is what happened to me), don't panic....
Overall, I think this CD is very good. It is worth it if you like her music videos, bonus tracks, and you like collecting Britney stuff. ....

In the Zone (+ Bonus CD) (2003)

Being the massive Britney Spears fan that I am, I knew straight away that I had to own this DVD. It was just released in the UK two days ago, and I bought it on the day it was released, which was also two days after one of the greatest nights of my life. You see, on Saturday May 1st 2004 I travelled to Manchester in England to see Britney Spears live on part of her Onyx Hotel Tour that is currently sweeping the world! My voice is gradually returning, but losing it (along with my head) was worth it just to see her up close! Currently on a Spears-high, this DVD was my most essential purchase for quite a few weeks, and I am very happy with it, not only because it contains so many brilliant features, but because it is a perfect addition to any true fans' collection!
People have complained that all the material on this DVD has already been on TV countless times before, but not everyone lives in America (I don't), so most of the stuff on here was new to me. The DVD cover is the same as the multi-platinum No.1 album "In The Zone," and this instantly makes the two sort of companions to each other. The first feature on the DVD is probably the best of the lot. It's the ABC Television Special - "Britney Spears: In The Zone" which was broadcast across America on the eve of the release of Britney's fourth album. In an intimate setting Britney performs to some of her biggest fans. She sings "Toxic," "Breathe On Me," "Boys/I'm A Slave 4 U," "(I Got That) Boom Boom," "Everytime," "...Baby One More Time" and "Me Against The Music." Seven great songs there, seven great performances. Woven in-between these performances are some brilliant clips of Britney during the recording process of the album. The best one for me is where Britney is in a Taxi and feeling free for the first time in a while - you can see tears in her eyes too. Very sweet!
After this fantastic feature, we move on to MTV's "Spankin New Music Week On TRL" Times Square Performance. This is yet another brilliant feature because we get to see one of Britney's first public performances of 2003 after her year-long hiatus. She sings "Me Against The Music" and "(I Got That) Boom Boom" featuring Ying Yang Twins Live. Both performances are brilliant and her pants are so cool! And her hat! After this, we move onto the full-length video to "Me Against The Music" featuring Madonna. This really is one of Britney's greatest music videos to date and was very pricey too! Two icons duetting on one spectacular, dance-tastic smash hit is a feast for the eyes! Everyone has seen this video a million times, though!
We then move onto a really cool feature, which is MTV's "Making The Video" for "Toxic." This has been shown before, but it's nice to finally own it for yourself. We see the brilliant production of Britney's true comeback song and we also see a really funny and charismatic superstar at the centre. The best bits are when Britney watches her old "Making The Video" series from years past, and when she breaks the plunger that she uses to climb up the wall, especially when she claims, "I am SO strong!" She's so sweet. Then of course we get the full video to "Toxic," which is absolutely spectacular! If this doesn't win multiple VMA's in August/September later on this year, there's something wrong! This is the song that has rightfully put Britney back on top in 2004 as the world's biggest superstar! A massive No.1 all over the world and one of the biggest radio hits of the past year has made this already an anthemic, classic pop tune. We then get "In The Personal Zone" which is a fantastic documentary in which Britney reveals all on Inspiration, Spirituality, ABC Special, Onyx Hotel Tour, TRL Performance and Toxic. We also get a really sexy photo gallery of Britney!
Also includes along with this DVD is a four-track Bonus CD. I have the UK Region 2 DVD version of this, so the two main songs I have are "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" and "Girls And Boys." However, as an American purchaser you get "The Answer" and "Don't Hang Up," which are two brilliant songs (the former R'n'B, the latter Dance) that feature on my version of the In The Zone album! Very confusing indeed, but there's also two fantastic remixes included! These are "Toxic (Lenny Bertoldo's Radio Mix)" and "Me Against The Music (Bloodshy & Avant's Chix Mix)." I personally prefer the Toxic remix, but the remix of Me Against The Music isn't bad either!
OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
In the past we've received some brilliant Britney Spears DVD's. We've had "Time Out With Britney" and "Live And More!" which were both superb. We then had the rather disappointing "Britney: The Videos," followed by the amazing "Britney Spears: Live From Las Vegas" and "Crossroads." Of course, there was the brilliant DVD included with the book Stages that followed Britney around on the Mexican leg of her Dream Within A Dream Tour of 2002. I have to say though, that "In The Zone" is the best DVD/video that Britney has released to date! I suggest that if you're a big Britney fan you buy this straight away, you won't regret it!

The Veronicas fans will simply love this cd/dvd of their Melbourne concert. And if you aren't a fan now, you probably will be after watching them in concert.
Great quality audio (5.1 or pcm), and not only do you get the 17 songs in concert on cd and dvd, there is a behind the scenes tour before the concert, as well as during.
The girls look hot, and they actually sing, and sing well - unlike some other performers I could name. This cd/dvd pack is well worth the money - you WON'T be disappointed.
If i had to fault one thing, its only minor - i hate it when (eg) the "f" word is bleeped out - it actually works well in an angst ridden song - and the more tame "all messed up" lyrics were used - thankfully, because that would have been bleeped as well.
I'd give my fellow Aussies a 9/10 for this - for musicality, song selection, sound/video quality, and overall entertainment - and general "hotness". P!nk gets 10/10 for her latest concert dvd, but that's just because of her theatrics and acrobatics - and she's been at it a lot longer.
Veronicas 4ever!!!!

Look, I think some products should be reviewed from the perspective of a kid not an adult and this is certainly one of them. Our 9y/o daughter loves JB and will be so excited to get this on x-mas. She listens to his songs on demand and at her friends houses. As parents we may not like his songs or may think his lyrics are silly singing about love at 16. However, when I was a kid it was New Kids, N Sync, and Backstreet Boys. So try to put your self in your kids shoes when reading the reviews for this album. It's marketed for tweens and teens not for adults. His songs are up beat and catchy which is why the kids love it. The price is fair as well. If you have a teen or tween who is a JB fan then get this, I am sure they'll love it.
