(More customer reviews)I really don't get all this business about this album being too 'whiney'. The only whining I hear is the people reviewing it. I think it's just a fine album. My CD doesn't have the bonus track, but I think it still sounds great. It runs the gamut from Rock to ballads and does it successfully. I love 'There goes the Neighborhood' and obviously 'My Favorite Mistake', but the sound of the CD is well-rounded all over. I like the whole concept of making the disc sound like it was recorded on an old reel-to-reel tape recorder. My opinion is that if you like Sheryl Crow, then you should buy this album and form your own ideas about whether you like it or not. I almost didn't buy this CD because of the things that I had heard about it. I would've been missing out. Don't let that happen to you.

Sheryl Crow: C'mon America 2003 Review

(More customer reviews)I'm sure the show was great, but my head's still reeling from the editing that must have been done by a teenage boy who suffers from severe ADHD and lives off of sugar and playstations. Well, at least that's what it felt like.
Pros: Sheryl is gorgeous, she's in top condition, the energy was high, and she looked like she was having a ball. The concert comes packed with a great setlist with numerous favorites.
Cons: Like many people have mentioned, both the filming and editing, for lack of a better word, sucks. The cameras zoom in, zoom out, blur out of focus on purpose just to re-focus (for effect, I guess). It's weird, because instead of focusing on Sheryl, the next shot inevitably zooms in on her guitarist's hand or her drummer's head. (I'm not kidding, they zoom in on hands, a LOT.) You also don't get more than 5 seconds in any one shot. Her bandmate's must be happy, because you see a lot the camera shares tons of love with her band--too much. I'm all for giving the rest of the band credit and screentime, but I don't pay for a concert DVD to see that much of the band.
I'm watching the DVD right now, and the shot's just moved from Sheryl's head, to a close up of the lead guitarist's hand, to a wide shot of the stage, to the discoball, to Sheryl's backside--all complete with zooms, blur effects, kaleidoscope effects, and swivels and swirls of camera moment--and all this took place in less than 30 seconds.
It's almost as if they desperately wanted a to give the DVD a "high energy" feel. Either that, or everybody in the editing room were hyper sorts who forgot to take their sedatives the day they put the DVD together. It didn't quite nauseate me, but it certainly got annoying in a quite a couple of spots when you just want to watch Sheryl for more than a few seconds at a time.
Silly me, I even read the reviews here and went ahead and bought the DVD, thinking the other reviewers exaggerated a bit about the schizophrenic editing. I don't know who okayed the job, but I would have told them to redo the whole thing within two minutes of watching it. They call it editing; I call it "slice, splice, and slap together."
Please, a little compassion for those who get motion sick or dizzy easily!

the bonus songs on CD2 only prove that they didn't belong in the front line of her work as most are languid and without direction. The DVD is a HUGE disappointment to me as most all the videos were previously available on her greatest hits DVD..and aside from a couple of minor videos for songs that weren't hits I was looking forward to "VALUABLE STUFF a documentary featuring on-the-road, backstage soundcheck and live footage recorded during the tuesday night music club tour 1993-1995"...which almost takes longer to read than watch! Most of these re-issues (see Depeche Mode as a prime example or Genesis) feature the artists discussing the making of the record and I figured we'd be getting that along with the extra footage described when ALL we get is a few minutes of b roll footage strung together for 12 minutes...to call THAT a documentary is an insult to documentaries. I think this is horribly overpriced at $30 for 15 minutes of extra video and 10 left over songs. In today's economy getting people to shell out $30 for something they already own ...should be done with more value in mind.

Globe Sessions (W/Sweet Child of Mine) Review

(More customer reviews)"The Globe Sessions" is Sheryl Crow's third album and among those first three, in my opinion, her most exciting one. It's quite easy to tell that with this album she was making the music that she wanted to make and not just music that was approved by studio executives. Among the most impressive aspects of this particular album for me are the tracks that would definitely be classified as country or country rock. I am by no means a country music fan but if they all sounded like this beautiful Missouri girls brand of it, I certainly would be.
Apart from the most popular song on the album "My Favorite Mistake," which has received more than ample airtime over the years, this album is populated with some of Sheryl Crow's best material to date. Whether one is looking at these songs from the pop or country aspect, they can all be classified as good to great music.
I highly recommend this album to those that are interested in listening to good music that is well written and performed by a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice who sings with an incomparable depth of emotion in each and every song; whether she's attempting to emote joy or sadness in her songs, she gets it down perfectly! {ssintrepid}

(More customer reviews)If 2002's sun-drenched "Come On, Come On" found a nail-biting Sheryl Crow unsure of her position as pop tunesmith or serious singer/songwriter, 2005's "Wildflower" - her "art" record as she dubbed it - certified she could straddle the line without compromise.
She continues that progression with the aptly-titled "Detours," sifting through a myriad of topics like her breast cancer battle, broken engagement to Lance Armstrong and adoption of a baby boy. She may have been sidetracked, but she embraces the rhythm of life, an artist true to form.
Crow reunites with Bill Bottrell, producer of her 1993 debut "Tuesday Night Music Club," and the results are compelling and thoroughly listenable. Lo-fi opener "God Bless This Mess" is wall-to-wall Crow, reiterating the song's title line despite hazy post 9/11 life, while the jaunty radio-ready rock of the futuristic blue-collar anthem "Gasoline" and bouncy single "Love Is Free" keep the pace.
She bares her soul on "Make It Go Away (Radiation Song)" and delivers a high-octane rocker in the politically conscious "Shine Over Babylon," but the revelatory title track and cheery, swashbuckling "Out of Our Heads" keep the colors from running too dark.
In spite of life's hardships she finds comfort in "Peace Be Upon Us" and the gorgeous "Love Is All There Is" without a trace of sap left on her fingers, while perfect closer "Lullaby For Wyatt" finds Crow fully aware of the trials of motherhood as she tenderly croons "you're mine...for a time."
Crow is a rare flower of a talent in an entertainment industry full of weeds and flash-in-the-pans, but she is not fragile. Transforming the personal into the universal, she has the rare power to make listeners consider not just themselves but the ambiguous world they live in and keep things entertaining and fresh all the while.

The album marks the return of producer Bill Bottrell, who previously worked with Crow on her breakthrough debut album Tuesday Night Music Club, which earned the singer three Grammy Awards, and sold more than ten million copies worldwide. "This is the most honest record I've ever made. It's about being forced to wake up," says Crow.

(More customer reviews)I have Sheryl Crow's Soundstage appearance TiVo'ed and this seems to be that concert plus about 7 songs. It's really great and would recommend it. Although, my favorite Sheryl DVD remains C'Mon America from 2003. Wildflower is a great winter cd. And Sheryl, well she's the cat's pajamas, as far as I can tell. I just wish she would have performed Anything But Down. I saw her tour this summer with John Mayer and the live version of that song rocked the house.
