Fijacion Oral vol. 1 Review

Fijacion Oral vol. 1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It may take a few listens before it takes hold, but Shakira's "Fijación Oral, Vol. 1" is an outstanding collection of music that is ideal for summer listening. Without a doubt, the Latina beauty's vocals have never sounded so impassioned and sincere.
On the wistful ballads "Obtener Un Sí (To Obtain a Yes)" and "En Tus Papilas (In Your Pupils)," she is absolutely enchanting, delivering her lines in a sensual fashion that will enamor listeners with their syrupy sentiments. The latter's chorus is particularly hard to shake.
"And there's something/Something in you/Something between the two of us/When I look in the pupils of your eyes I know that God still exists/You make him live."
Love doesn't always work out so well for the Colombian/Lebanese chanteuse, however, and she reveals this well in "La Pared (The Wall)" and "No." In the former, she makes a zealous plea for her love to reconsider leaving, for after him is nothing but a wall. In the latter she takes a much different stance, having the strength to tell her man that she must regretfully sever ties with him, for "one can't live with so much venom."
She is still able to find optimism, however, with the soaring "Las de La Intuición (Woman's Intuition)."
"I think I'm starting to understand/That we desired each other before we were born/I get the feeling the action is about to begin/And us women are the ones with intuition."
There are not as many uptempos as usual this time around. Nevertheless, the singer/songwriter gets her rock chick fix with the feisty "Escondite Inglés (English Hideout)," and lead single "La Tortura (The Torture)," featuring Alejandro Fernandez, is a slick, sexy party record that becomes addictive very soon. The latter has ridden atop Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart for weeks.
The album closes with an impressive acoustic version of "La Pared" and the Shaketon Remix of "La Tortura." A DualDisc is available with interview footage, English translations and the "La Tortura" video. "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2," the English-language counterpart to this project, will arrive in November.

Heroes were one of the best rock bands ever. This collection does do justice. Most of their best you will find on this 2 disc collection. "Mar Adentro", "Agosto", "Despertar", "Entre 2 tierras" and "La Carta" are some of my all time faves. Their sound is a cross between Iron Maiden and The doors. This has some great remixes, and all the live stuff is of high quality as well. I reccomend this strongly if you are even remotely into rock en español.

After reading other reviews for Juanes albums this will not come as a shock to anyone that listens to his music as always he is totally BRILLIANT nothing that he writes is bad. This particular album i have found represents Juanes in true fashion a brilliant musician and a poet of a song writer.I could not pick out one song that is my fave as they all are and are all equally uplifting. My advice to anyone would be to purchase this album as you will not be dissapointed even if you do not speak or understand Spanish you will understand what Juanes is singing about as it comes form the heart and soul.

Comparing this DVD with the previous one of he is not the Same thing in truth gives pain of as they could call this a finished product. If it is had to compare with the rest of the productions of Alexander Sanz it is a true backward movement with bad image that not even seems quality DVD and audio nothing special.
By the way, Amazon is not bothered in mentioning that one of both discs that east package includes is the DVD and the other a live disc of 10 songs extragoings of the concert live. The sound of the band is not as good as what normally there is customary Alejadnro to us.
What has happened to him to Alexander with these bad productions?
I give rating him of 2 stars because the performance of the band is spectacular although the rest of the product leaves much to be desired. It is not worth the trouble to buy it unless you are very fanatico of Alexander.

I've had the pleasure of enjoying Mr. Iglesias
music for many years. Only saw him in concert once.
It is very hard to describe how his music effects me.
Now matter how rough the work day has been, all I have
to do is put in one of his CD's & the day doesn't seem
so bad.
I think that says it all.

Alas y Raices Review

Alas y Raices

Eros Ramazzoti is back with another fantastic production called "Alas Y Raices", a great album full of amazing tunes perfomed with the elegant voice of Eros. The signature song of the album is "Dimelo a Mi", which is the first single, and it a great song, and easily places itself between Eros' best creations. "Apuntes y Notas" is highly recommended, because is has a surprising sound and to me it's the best non-single song in the album. Eros once again sings to love in songs like "Flor Inesperada" and "El Horizonte", only in the way he can. There are more cheerful songs like "Afectos Personales" and "No podemos cerrar los Ojos". The song "Alas y Raices" is another fantastic tune full of harmony, that reminds me of "Calma Aparente". I wouldn't say it the best album of Eros, but it is pretty enjoyable. If you are an Eros fan, or if you like his music enough, then this is a must-own. Eros is simply one of the best Italian singers of all time.

Jesus Alemany's ¡Cubanismo feat. Alfredo Rodriguez Review

Jesus Alemany's ¡Cubanismo feat. Alfredo Rodriguez
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With all due respect to the previous reviewers, it doesn't get much better than this! Cubanismo is one of the finest Cuban dance bands working today. They are absolutely incredible live and, although this isn't a live recording, it does capture some of the pure fire and swing of catching Jesus Alemany and his crew in a live setting. Unlike the dynamic Cuban salsa and timba bands of today, Cubanismo plays more traditional Cuban dance rhythms, such as son montuno, changui, pilon, and mambo, but with a modern descarga (jam session) feel and jazz elements mixed in. The first three Cubanismo albums are all FANTASTIC, but, in my opinion, this is the best of the three because of the pure swing and incredible musicianship. Alemany is one of the finest trumpet players anywhere, and he surrounds himself here with the likes of Tata Guines, Miguel "Anga" Diaz, Alfredo Rodriguez, Orlando "Maraca" Valle, Yosvanny Terry, Carlitos Del Puerto, and many other great musicians. It is a band that is hard to top. The arrangements are loose and the playing is intense, allowing the musicians to stretch out. This recording is not meant to be at all like Arturo Sandoval's "Hot House." Rather, like the New York Times review so aptly states, it was a session in which the music really does equal "the intensity of music performed in a club." This is Cuban dance music at it's intense and dynamic best!!! I recommend this, as well as Malembe and Reencarnacion to anyone who wants to experience just how explosive Cuban music can be.

Todas sus canciones son excelentes y a medida que van pasando una a una se va notando como el publico enloquece en Barcelona. Eso se puede sentir perfectamente. Mexico en la Piel by Luis Miguel is a wonderful album. Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan made a superb job with the musical arrangements. Luis Miguel's voice is simply angelical, engergetic and crystal clear. He sings every song with pride and his passion for folk Mexican music makes of this album a real jewel. In addition the DVD showing parts of Mexico, musical history of Luis Miguel and a coupple of concerts live...makes this cd a must to have. I don't get tired of listenging to it. I enthusiastically recommend it! Thanks.

Another Gloria concert for the collection. This one is beautiful.
Great stage, tons of musicians and a great campy Miami finale, which I loved.

Wow! This CD has some of the greatest songs I've ever heard! "Live For Loving You" is probably one of my favorite songs, and it is here on this CD. Very good music to dance to! "Mama Yo Can't Go" is also another good one. "Desde La Oscuridad" the Spanish version of "Coming Out of the Dark" is a very catchy tune. I was singing it for days! Get this CD!

Gira: Me Veras Volver 1 Review

Gira: Me Veras Volver 1
Average Reviews:

THE CD
Not much to say about the CD really, if you were aware of the tour then you must already know this is a selection of 29 hits performed live. No new songs were composed as the band decided it would be a limited tour for fans of the band.
The quality of the recording is good but it lacks at some point of that concert-sense as it's been highly edited. Take for instance the first song "Juego de seduccion", in the concerts the opening song was the studio version of "Some day, One day" (Algun dia" from the tribute to Queen) which lyrics were fit to the occasion, right when the song says "Si piensas volver... algun dia..." the band would start the first chords of "Juego de seduccion". Well, "Some day, One day" was removed in the CD as well as many of the in-between-song comments by Cerati.
Overall, a good release and as usual, an excellent graphic design for the album art. So why one star?
THE RELEASE
Ten years ago, Soda Stereo dismembered and they had their farewell tour on 1997. A double album was released then with the last concert, but, cleverly enough, the two discs were sold separately (named "A" and "B") and each at the price you'd pay for the two had they been released together.
A couple years ago, they re-released the last concert, but then they made it a CD+DVD release, including a selection from disc "A" and "B" labeled as disc "C" and the DVD with the last concert.
Then Soda announces a 2007 tour, "Me veras volver". A selection of songs from that tour is included in this album. And as you can see, they did it again. Instead of releasing a double album at the standard price of $14.99, they are releasing them separately at $14.99 each! ("Me veras volver" CD 1 and CD 2, the DVD version is, of course, being sold separately)
What makes matters worse to me is that the contents of these two discs have been around for free on the web for almost a year! They gave a concert last year in Colombia and somehow someone managed to extract the audio of the 29 songs they performed from the HQ console, this was of course uploaded to the web and has been available since then. What I am trying to tell, for fans, this is not a new product at all. Basically you are paying double for a product that has been available for free for almost a year.
Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan and I would definitely have bought these had they been released together. I just thought I'd give anyone willing to buy them a heads up.

La Vida...Es un Ratico CD/DVD Limited Edition Review

La Vida...Es un Ratico CD/DVD Limited Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since I purchased the CD/DVD limited edition, I'll address the DVD.
From the Amazon website, it looks like there are six cuts or episodes on the DVD. That's misleading. There are six cuts/episodes, but three are in English and the same three are repeated again in Spanish.
The first episode is titled "Juanes: Un Viaje Musical" where Juanes reminisces about his musical start in Medellin, the '80s drug wars that nearly destroyed Colombia, his first record contract and his first group "Ekhymosis," his selling of all his personal possessions to finance his move to Los Angeles, his quest to find music producer Gustavo Santaolalla, his struggle for radio play for "Fijate Bien," his marriage / daughter that influenced "Un Dia Normal," his song writing experiences, touring to promote "Mi Sangre," his anti-landmine crusade, his pride to be a Colombian, etc. This episode gives brief samples of his concerts in Germany, England, and Japan. The most interesting brief performance was an excellent acoustic performance that he gave at the European Parliament.
It was interesting to learn that it took awhile for Juanes to be a comfortable stage performer. This might explains why Juanes hasn't released any completely live concert performance DVDs. Hopefully, now that Juanes has learned to be comfortable on stage and has a real presence, he'll release a live concert DVD.
The second episode is a brief look into the making of the music video "Me Enamora." Unfortunately, the actual video is not on the DVD. I didn't find this very interesting.
The third episode is Juanes explaining the meaning of the songs on the CD. He does point out that this CD has a more Colombian feel with a combination of rock and Colombian folk music. He also explains that this CD and the previous three CDs are a reflection of his life and his growth as a person, a husband, and a father.
The DVD would have been better if it included one or two complete music videos or complete sets of live concert performances.
About this CD, I predict that this will be another award winning CD for Juanes. It has some catchy tunes and beats, but the lyrics of his songs really stands out in this CD.His strong guitar play that you hear in his other CDs continues to shine in this CD.
If you bought the CD without this DVD, I personally don't think it's worthwhile to buy this limited edition unless you are a hardcore Juanes fan.

La Vida...Es un Ratico (Life is a moment) is the follow up to Juanes' globally multi-platinum release Mi Sangre. In La Vida...Es un Ratico, Juanes once again teams up with co-producer Gustavo Santaolalla, Double-Oscar/Grammy winner. In his first single "Me Enamora," Juanes shows us his intimate personal thoughts on love and relationships. In songs like "Minas Piedras" and Bandera de Manos" he tackles themes of both the hope for peace and social change. With this release, Juanes works to continue to perfect his distinctive fusion of rock with traditional Colombian rhythms and other international styles.

CUTS BOTH WAYS is the very best of Gloria's albums. She was at the very top of her singing and writing abilities when she made this one. Every single song is excellent. The ballads are just sweet and beautiful. The few dance music songs have a latin flavor and are just plain fun.
Her work since this album has been hit and miss. This is the best!
