Pat's compositions are up to his usual standard, but with the title track, 'Parallel Realities', he contributed a real corker. All Metheny Group fans have to have this CD for that track alone. The central part is great driving music, where all three musicians gets to improvise over a rhythm reminiscent of Pink Floyd's 'On The Run' from 'Dark Side of the Moon'.
My question about this CD is: how late did Herbie Hancock come to the project? Both DeJohnette and Metheny play keyboards on most of the tracks -- they even alternate on keyboard bass -- with Hancock only providing acoustic piano, except on the last track. The impression is of a well-structured two-man project, to which a pianist has been added at almost the last minute. Hancock is welcome, and his colourations add much to the tone of the whole album. But it would have been great if he had written a piece.
I saw the band when they went on tour to promote this and, strangely, Metheny's 'Question and Answer' album together. Rather than use keyboard bass, they employed acoustic maestro Dave Holland. It was a great UK concert and my only frustration was that the audience didn't demand an encore, to enable the band to play 'Parallel Realities'.
This was Metheny's first album of the 1990s, and in retrospect, he didn't quite have the stellar decade we had hoped. I sincerely believe that Metheny is the most important popular music composer of the last quarter of the 20th century. In the 80s he fulfilled so much of the promise that he had showed in the second half of the 70s. But in the 90s, rather than giving us something akin to say, the late quartets that Beethoven produced, Metheny has spent much of his time playing with the surviving jazz greats and producing the odd film soundtrack.
This album was another of Metheny's expeditions with the roster of jazz greats, and is enjoyable, if not profound, fusion music.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Parallel Realities

Click here for more information about Parallel Realities
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-32239382315784309892012-08-21T06:38:00.000-04:002012-08-21T06:38:01.480-04:00Zoo TV LIVE (2-CD) Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This CD contains the exact same music as the commercially available DVD, "U2 Zoo TV: Live From Sydney, Australia," which you can buy new for twenty bucks. It was professional 'Top Drawer' all the way. I did not get a chance to see her live performance, but if the CD were a tape, I would have worn it out by now. The Video, well I need to replace that......it is very good, and I am not surprised it got a five star, from others. I have always enjoyed Babs and she never seems to let us down. My favorite part of 'The Concert Video' is when she does the psychatrist scenes. She is hilarious when she states: 'Have I ever seen a psychatrist? ' Slapstic Streisand....performs well. My favorite song is from Yentil. She does such a good blend with her alter voice in the screen video version. The blend is very well done. I have shown this video to anyone that wants to watch it. It is a favorite at my parties. People want to see it over, and over again. It is a crowd favorite.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Barbra - The Concert : Live at Arrowhead Pond (1994)

Get 77% OFF

Click here for more information about Barbra - The Concert : Live at Arrowhead Pond (1994)
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-27562530955669195492012-08-21T04:37:00.000-04:002012-08-21T04:37:00.277-04:00Scratch - All the Way Live (2004) Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Jay uses a laptop because he's running a program called Final Scratch that allows him to digitize some of his records. It's just new technology, you can hate it if you want, but it all comes down to the fact that he's an original party rocker and he just wants to make people have fun. And he is a forefather of scratching. Listen to Mike and Z Trip talk about him on the DVD. Respect.
Z Trip's set is awesome. He's getting big now, and you can see why here. Really creative. Everything from old school hip hop to Pantera. Ever seen a moshpit at a hip hop concert? Well, here you go.
I think the X- Ecutioners were a little off that night. They are pretty technical and sometimes it doesn't translate. They are the only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars. But it's still impressive to see them perform. And this is probably the last footage of them before they broke up.
Mike's set is absolutley insane. That last reviewer said "no tricks, nothing new." Dude, what were you watching? Mike pulls some crazy stuff out of his brain. His crabbing technique is nuts. He even nails the lighting guy in mid-performance for making it look like a "rave." I can't repeat what he says here, but trust me, it's priceless. He and Z Trip get the crowd moving like I haven't seen in a while. I guess if that's what you mean by Mike "biting" Z Trip, then yeah, I agree. In any case, Mike is one of the most technically sophisticated turntablists out there (the other being Q Bert) but Mike really knows how to rock a party, too.
I haven't watched all of the bonus features yet or listened to the commentary, but I did watch the Shepard Fairey feature, and it's definitely part of the reason I like this DVD so much. He's really well know in the street-art world and this is a good insight into what he does and how he does it. I'm actually kinda surprised that his part hasn't gotten more hype, I think people just don't realize that it's on there.
I recommend this DVD to anybody who is already down. For those of you who are merely interested, check out Mike's part and feel your head spin.
And if you're still not convinced, check out a couple other online reviews, like the one from the last issue of RS.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Scratch - All the Way Live (2004)

Click here for more information about Scratch - All the Way Live (2004)
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-7044040394519358482012-08-21T03:48:00.000-04:002012-08-21T03:48:00.201-04:00Totem Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Well, it's a crime that this has not been reviewed yet. And I am not good enough to do Zazie justice. I have been thinking about why I like what I like. I think the standard is basically to compare everything against The Beatles. I think so much of what I like has the qualities of originality, harmony, melody, good rock, interesting lyrics, tells a story, makes you feel something, and to me, most importantly...makes me move my body. Zazie has all those qualities. I have heard people compare to her to other "more talented" singers. That isn't the point- Zazie does what she does and does it so well. So how do I describe? Maybe a jazzier Feist. But you can't exclude how the french language and way of thinking contributes to this music. It seems that someday we will become multi-cultural enough where it doesn't matter if music is sung in English. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and listen to Zazie. Better yet, check out a U Tube Video of her....the visual element of this striking woman with such a sense of herself...well it will make you a bigger fan. By the way, another great french artist- check out Camille (Dalmais)

Click Here to see more reviews about: Totem

2007, Studio Release from French Pop Star. Humorous romp with the Kings of Rochester that compliments the films "Help"(Beatles) and "Head"(Monkees). If Tarintino made a Rock and Roll movie I would envision "Where Is The Chesterfield King". The opening track is an instrumental suite blending a few holiday standards, which run the gamut from amazing Peter Mayer acoustic guitar work to haunting melodies on a Native American wooden flute. There's a lot of that influence on this album, and even a middle Eastern tone or two.
The Little Drummer Boy even features a spectacular percussion "jam" on African djembe drums.
Peter's original songs on here really shine as well. There's a hint of the sound of his other solo albums, but the songs are definitely distinctive. Catchy pop melodies underly these songs, and they're all stylistically different. The title cut, "Stars and Promises", evokes a cheesy 60's love duet complete with a "Girl from Impanema" sound with Peter and Tina Gullickson doing great vocal work.
It's a great album that can be listened to all year long.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Stars and Promises

"Stars and Promises" is the title of the new Christmas album, released this holiday season by Peter Mayer. It features six brand new Peter Mayer songs, including a collaboration with acclaimed hymn writer Herbert Brokering, entitled, "Wings Of Angels."The album also celebrates traditional carols, such as, "Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel," "Angels We Have Heard On High," "Little Drummer Boy," and others. They are performed with fresh arrangements, incorporating a variety of stylistic influences from classical ("Christmas Overture"), folk ("Sing Joy"), popular ("This Christmas") and jazz ("What Child Is This").On "Stars and Promises," Mayer has added the sounds of Native American wood flute, piano, percussion from around the world, and a string trio, to the distinctive acoustic guitar and vocal work you have heard on his previous offerings, "Spare Tire Orchestra," "Romeo's Garage," and "Green Eyed Radio."

Click here for more information about Stars and Promises
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-80959605482844620982012-08-20T07:32:00.000-04:002012-08-20T07:32:00.815-04:00American Christmas Carol Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Tim Janis has a distinct sound. His music often begins with a simple tin flute then crescendos into a rich lush orchestral sound, beautifully capturing the natural landscapes he tries to set to music. As much as I enjoy Janis, he's already released other Christmas collections, and his arrangements are somewhat similar in his previous releases. So I did wonder if this collection would be more of the same. It's not. This collection is a departure for Janis. While we still have the beautiful arrangements Janis is known for, this collection also has vocals. The musical selections are also somewhat different for Janis. Though the title is THE AMERICAN CHRISTMAS CAROL, many of the tracks are not Christmas music per se. Many of the selections are contemporary Christian worship hymns.
Now some fans of contemporary Christian worship music may wonder if an orchestra such as the ensemble led by Janis would have the sound usually associated with these songs. Usually the music is backed by amplified guitars and keyboards, hardly Tim Janis fare. Janis fans may also wonder if this is the Tim Janis they know and love. Well, it works and in the end, it does remind listeners of the religious basis of the holiday, the birth of Christ, The combination of the Christmas music and music used in worship services through the year makes Christmas moiré than just a once a year holiday, but rather the celebration of something central to the Christian faith.
As I was listening to this CD, I was reminded of a John Michael Talbot CD which combines traditional Christmas music and includes some traditional Catholic hymns sung at liturgies throughout the year. Talbot's CD tells a story as does this collection, and it's certainly a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

Click Here to see more reviews about: American Christmas Carol

Click here for more information about American Christmas Carol
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-30703484435914382772012-08-20T06:31:00.000-04:002012-08-20T06:31:00.977-04:00Hold Up Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This is the best Saian Supa Crew release to date. "Soundbytes" portrays Sakamoto as a prophet of the state of electronica in 1994 (the album's release date), with his use of ambient and borrowed sound, unfamiliar textures and timbres, strong repetition and punctuated rhythm, and a certain "Futurist" concept in mind. "1996", meanwhile, relies on the other side of Sakamoto's musical personality that surfaces most readily in his movie soundtracks - beautiful melodies, nuanced chord and harmonic progression, both exaggerated and latent emotion - in an elegantly arranged piano/cello/violin trio that simply flows from track to track.
Most of these pieces are Sakamoto's best known work: the film score highlights. A couple are taken from the "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" and "The Last Emperor" scores - yet gain either an acoustic reinterpretation (in the former) or a more intimate, chamber music affect (in the latter). The others are from mostly independent features, whereupon he here saves us the trouble of searching desperately for their respective soundtracks.
Other pieces are reappropriated into the extremely well-executed solo work "Smoochy" (1997), introducing the listener to his latest foray in popular music. "Aoneko no Torso" yields a nicely restrained performance in the later album, yet listening to a pseudo-trip-hop "Bibo no Aozora," including Ryuichi on vocals and Arto Lindsay on the guitar, especially after hearing the trio version, was truly mind-blowing.
"1919" is a new piece that yields a certain paranoia and intensity, using repetition as the primary means of conveying emotion (a la "Soundbytes"). It was most impressive seeing him recently perform this piece on a MIDI-enabled Disklavier in Los Angeles, where he began playing "out of phase" with himself, a Steve Reich technique. And he also pulls out some old favorites (as he did "Replica" from "Cinemage" and "Tong Poo" from "BTTB"): the avant-garde-ish "M.A.Y. in the Backyard" and "A Tribute to NJP" (which, interestingly, was originally a piano/sax/clarinet trio and performed with a certain jazz/Impressionist repose) are from his "Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia" (1984). His intro piece, "A Day a Gorilla Gives a Banana", is to my knowledge first performed on "Media Bahn Live" (1986) - perhaps the most unaltered of all the pieces.
Long story short: good album.

Click Here to see more reviews about: 1996

Featuring 16 Tracks Including High Heels (Main Theme), Rain (Last Emperor Soundtrack), Merry Christmas Mr. Lawremce, Before Long, Acceptance, and Others.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Click here for more information about 1996
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-41091423316900343482012-08-19T11:44:00.000-04:002012-08-19T11:44:00.950-04:00The Foundation (Special Edition with 3 Exclusive Live Songs) Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I first heard ZBB when they opened for Los Lonely Boys in October '08, just before "Chicken Fried" became a bona-fide hit. I had never in my life heard of them, yet I walked away from that show a die-hard fan. These guys are all amazing musicians, fluidly traversing across genres song in and song out, be it country, rock, reggae, or bluegrass. They have a sound all their own that is firmly grounded in southern roots. Their songs are all heartfelt and catchy, and unlike so many of the polished and overproduced pop acts that dominate the country charts that are computerized shadows of themselves, these guys are legit - truly at home on the stage. Like another reviewer stated, there's not a song on this CD that I ever skip.
In spite of not fitting the mold that mainstream country would just love to cram them into (think Rascal Flatts,) I have a feeling these guys are going to be around, on their own terms, for a long, long time. I'm already pining for the next album. Creative and original (especially considering this is mainstream pop/rock), this collection eliminates much of the 'cookie-cutter' nature that I felt many of those songs had while retaining hook-laden melodies that made it so successful commercially.
Dubbed by Chris as "a very big rock album", this sophomore effort starts that way with "You Don't Belong", a heavy rocker filled with '80's-inspired guitar riffs and power chords. Rather than using studio musicians as the debut did, Chris' bandmates recorded the musical tracks, and that's one of this album's major highlights and improvements. The almost not-stop touring allowed the band to develop chemistry, and the resulting cohesiveness shows through on the recording, giving this album a more loose, 'live' feel.
"Every Time You Turn Around" keeps the rock edge going...the band members were given latitude to "throw things in on the fly"...an extra solo line here, an extra cymbal crash there, and this song is a good example of that. "Life After You" finally slows things down a bit, but that's not a bad thing on this record. The string of mid-tempo or slower songs that dominate the rest of the album are not contrived or 'manufactured'-sounding...in fact, Chris' weathered voice bleeds passion and sincerity combined with his relatable relationship-themed lyrics. The production allows 'holes' to open up for the vocal(s) to be heard clearly.
Chris (collaborating with some of his rock 'buddies' and producers, including Nickelback's Chad Kroeger on two songs) seems to have honed his songwriting skills further...his almost innate ability to craft melodies and write lyrics from the heart continues to grab you and reel you in, without 'recycling' too much from the first record. Two songs in particular stand out for me... "September", a heartfelt ballad about growing up in the summertime in his small, North Carolina hometown but having to leave things behind to move forward, and "Tennessee Line", a country-flavored tune (fiddles and all) featuring country legend Vince Gill on background vocals. Unique and captivating, these gems are refreshing to hear while staying within the confines of the basic formula for Daughtry's success.
While returning producer Howard Benson throws in a few extra production tricks here and there, he manages to keep the sound fairly natural and the enhancements aren't too overdone.
The bottom line: Great songs, solid performance, and an overall stronger rock attitude. I'm not sure if the changes would be enough to win over those who didn't like Daughtry before, but if you did enjoy Daughtry Part 1, the sequel isn't likely to disappoint.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Leave This Town (Deluxe Edition with Bonus DVD)

Daughtry achieved global success with its self-titled debut, the biggest selling artist release of the past two years. The band's Grammy-nominated, quadruple-platinum debut garnered multiple American Music Awards, World Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards.Daughtry spent most of the last two years on the road, performing to sold-out arenas, but is now back with the follow-up to the its massive debut. This is truly exceptional music. I first heard this stuff as opening music at Paul's last tour and was impressed then, but really it wasn't until getting this home that I realized how great this stuff is.
DJ Freelance Hellraiser has done a fantastic job - he has truly created something new out of something old, yet at the same time reminds you how great the original tracks really were (and makes you want to go back and listen to them.)
I read that was using the original master tapes for these remixes/mashups - so you will hear things you have never heard before on the original tracks (plus all of the stuff he has chosen to add on top.)
I love it all but my personal favorite is an absolutely slamming "Temporary Secretary". Paul has always rocked (regardless of urban legend that says he is a wimp) and this whole album positively RAWKS from start to finish.
Don't let the fact that you may have heard very little about this record put you off, this is essential McCartney music.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Twin Freaks

2 LP vinyl only release from Twin Freaks, aka Roy Kerr, who worked with Paul McCartney on his 2004 tour. When he's on target, his adeptness at piano, organ and various types of electronic keyboards is staggering, but there are also far too many Rick Wakeman albums that are either all flash and no substance or are bloated conceits that stumble around before sinking without a trace. That's why this album is a gem. Here with just a grand piano, Wakeman manages to roll thirty-plus years of music into an entertaining and quite rewarding trip down memory lane in front of a live audience. He gives forth with arrangements of his work from every point in his career, from his time with the Strawbs ("A Glimpse Of Heaven"), his days as a marathon session musician (David Bowie's "Space Oddity," Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken"), his various stints with Yes and ABWH (a lovely version of "Wonderous Stories" and a medley of "The Meeting" and "And You And I") and high points from his solo career in the bargain. Wakeman intersperses these performances with stories of how the songs and pieces were written, and he is a natural racounter and howlingly funny at times. If the music thing doesn't work out, he'd make a killing doing stand-up comedy in the Catskills! All told, SIMPLY ACOUSTIC is a concert recording that makes you wish you'd actually been there--what better praise is there?

Click Here to see more reviews about: Simply Acoustic

'Simply Acoustic' was a benefit concert for AssistMinistries recorded at Calvary Chapel in California duringRick's Simply Acoustic tour. Someone needs to get Margaret her one TV talk show (preferably on cable!) quickly!! She is so smart, and so funny, and so dead-on accurate in her views about pop culture and world politics.
Ms. Cho is just brilliant. She can be super serious one minute, and then in the next breath can have you crying tears of laughter. Not only is she one of the most important voices in comedy, she is just one of the most important ENTERTAINERS working today. She needs to be on every TV show! She needs to be in every movie! She needs to be everywhere!!!
Following in the footsteps of Margaret's previous shows, "I'm The One That I Want" and "Notorious C.H.O.", another live concert movie is being produced. This movie is going to have a bonus that the other two didn't have: a second movie that is a behind-the-scenes look at Margaret during her "Revolution" tour (it'll be Margaret's version of Madonna's "Truth Or Dare"). This cd will tide us all over until those movies hit theaters in 2004.
Really, the only comment that I have to make about this cd is that unless you have seen the "Revolution" show live, you might get a bit lost in some parts. A lot of Margaret's comedy involves her physically doing things- whether it's a facial expression, or some kind of movement. Obviously, you can't see that when you are listening to a cd. Since I've seen the show, it wasn't a problem for me because I remember what she's doing. Even if you haven't seen the show, you'll still find this cd to be 100% entertaining.
You just can't go wrong with Margaret!

Click Here to see more reviews about: Revolution

Revolution

Click here for more information about Revolution
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-29084229608141682112012-08-18T14:21:00.000-04:002012-08-18T14:21:00.249-04:00Wild Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)If there was one word to describe Wild! it would be "lush". Although everything is still 99.9% electronic, there are samples of pianos, strings and other "real" sounds to give the album a fairly organic and natural feel - at least in comparison to the analogue blips and bleeps that would be the trademark sound on the following albums.
What makes this album so great is that it is perhaps Erasure's most diverse collection of songs yet everything flows together in a coherent way. From the silly pseudo-Latin pop of "La Gloria" to the amazingly beautiful ballad "You Surround Me" to the dark and minimal "Piano Song", every song stands apart from one another but yet fits together nicely. A common complaint about the album is that while there are some great songs there's quite a bit of filler as well. I was one that once agreed with that sentiment, but over the years I've grown to appreciate every single song on the album. It is not as strong as The Innocents, Chorus or their self-titled album, but it is a classic in its own right. My only real complaint is that it's rather short - roughly 35 minutes. If they ever re-release it with some of the great b-sides off the singles on that album (Paradise, Dreamlike State, etc.) as bonus tracks, then I'll give it 5 stars, but for now, it'll be 4.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Wild

ERASURE

Click here for more information about Wild
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188626686763185654.post-67638947911943796002012-08-18T12:30:00.000-04:002012-08-18T12:30:01.224-04:00Get the Party Started - Australia Review
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This another hit from our favorite Pink haired celebrity. The only difference I notice from the Radio Mix and the Album Version is that she says `end' instead of `a**,' for censoring purposes.
Track 02: Get the Party Started/Sweet Dreams featuring Redman (4:04)- What happens when Get the Party Started by Pink and Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These) by The Eurythmics are combined? This song, produced by Rockwilder, uses Pink's vocals from Get the Party Started and the melody from Sweet Dreams to make an unforgettable song. The Eurythmics weren't in it, for the vocals of Sweet Dreams, but Pink sings both songs. Pink's vocals were re-recorded for this mix, so the notes sounds different. Redman, the rapper, also make an appearance in this song too, for raps throughout the song. The song also features the highest note I ever heard Pink sing. A song everyone should listen to.
Track 03: Get the Party Started (Pink Noise Disco) (Radio Edit) (3:44)- A good disco version of Get the Party Started, not as good as Track 02 but worth listen to. Very uplifting and danceable. The only thing that could make this was if this was the 12" version instead of the radio edit, but what could you do?
Track 04: Get the Party Started (Instrumental) (3:14)- It's very weird just to hear the instruments of this song, but it's sounds good to hear each instrument, some that you don't even realize are there. But, I think the CD would've been better off without this.
Get the Party Started is a magnificent song for a pink haired girl we call, Pink. I recommend this CD to everyone, no matter what kind of music they like. Track 02 is definitely worth the money.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Get the Party Started - Australia

First single from Pink's 2001 album, 'Missundaztood'.Tracks include 'Get The Party Started' (radio mix), 'GetThe Party Started/Sweet Dreams' feat. SP's previous effort "Rabies" (1989) is slightly easier to listen to, mostly due to slick production courtesy of Al Jourgensen (please tell me you know who that is). However, unless your mind is of the warped and delinquent variety, you'll find that Skinny Puppy is ANYTHING but easy listening. Skinny Puppy is a horror show for the ears, sonic masochism, a terrible but engaging nightmare that you can't wake from. In that respect, TDP is arguably the most quintessential Puppy album. It's harsh, dense, chaotic, and angry as hell, a culmination of the sound that they had been driving towards since they banded in 1982. (Their next album, 1991's "Last Rights", is a slight departure into experimentalism while 1996's "The Process" sounds like a completely different band.)
But be forewarned. I suspect that most people won't be able to recognize this as music. People who consider industrial-lite fluff like Filter and Stabbing Westward "cutting edge" or "hardcore" are in for a big, big (big) shock. In fact, they'd probably do best to pass on this band; I doubt they'd "get it". But you're probably here because you want something BIZARRE and DIFFERENT!
"Too Dark Park" jerks to life with "Convulsion", probably the most dense and chaotic track on the album. Inter-cut with samples from a documentary on LSD, Nivek Ogre's vocals and lyrics make it clear upfront that he's just about lost it. "Tormentor", the next track, is my favorite. Cevin Key and Dwayne Goettel morph what could've been a relatively standard industrial-dance track into something dark and sinister. "Spasmolytic" is just flat out insane. Phrases and words are strung together in maniacal fashion, suggesting an intense and hellish drug withdrawal whilst living in urban squalor. The single version of "Spasmolytic" gets the minimalist treatment, making it spookier and decidedly better (it should've been on this album, but you can get it on "The Singles Connection"). "Rash Reflection" shares a similar electro-sound with "Tormentor", but is decidedly more claustrophobic and terrifying. I'll stop here, but suffice it to say that every track is its own private nightmare and every one is equally as good as the next.
The lyrics are written in a drug-crazed William S. Burroughs style of free association. It's hard to understand what's going on, but that's all part of the experience. TDP forces you to live the nightmare of drug addiction/withdrawal and the mental chaos associated with it; the music adds emotional and visceral chaos, churning the whole vile mixture out of control. In case you're wondering, you don't have to be an addict or ex-addict to appreciate it - I've never touched a hard drug in my life. Drugs are a central theme, but there's so much more going on here.
As great as this album is, it's not even my favorite Skinny Puppy album. In the beginning they had a lo-fi 80's synth sound that was just perfect, plus they used a lot of obscure horror movie samples = fun times. So while this album is great, it gets even better.
Brap on.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Too Dark Park

Click here for more information about Too Dark Park
Jody J Onealhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07367473531701110104noreply@blogger.com0
