(More customer reviews)Since I purchased the CD/DVD limited edition, I'll address the DVD.
From the Amazon website, it looks like there are six cuts or episodes on the DVD. That's misleading. There are six cuts/episodes, but three are in English and the same three are repeated again in Spanish.
The first episode is titled "Juanes: Un Viaje Musical" where Juanes reminisces about his musical start in Medellin, the '80s drug wars that nearly destroyed Colombia, his first record contract and his first group "Ekhymosis," his selling of all his personal possessions to finance his move to Los Angeles, his quest to find music producer Gustavo Santaolalla, his struggle for radio play for "Fijate Bien," his marriage / daughter that influenced "Un Dia Normal," his song writing experiences, touring to promote "Mi Sangre," his anti-landmine crusade, his pride to be a Colombian, etc. This episode gives brief samples of his concerts in Germany, England, and Japan. The most interesting brief performance was an excellent acoustic performance that he gave at the European Parliament.
It was interesting to learn that it took awhile for Juanes to be a comfortable stage performer. This might explains why Juanes hasn't released any completely live concert performance DVDs. Hopefully, now that Juanes has learned to be comfortable on stage and has a real presence, he'll release a live concert DVD.
The second episode is a brief look into the making of the music video "Me Enamora." Unfortunately, the actual video is not on the DVD. I didn't find this very interesting.
The third episode is Juanes explaining the meaning of the songs on the CD. He does point out that this CD has a more Colombian feel with a combination of rock and Colombian folk music. He also explains that this CD and the previous three CDs are a reflection of his life and his growth as a person, a husband, and a father.
The DVD would have been better if it included one or two complete music videos or complete sets of live concert performances.
About this CD, I predict that this will be another award winning CD for Juanes. It has some catchy tunes and beats, but the lyrics of his songs really stands out in this CD.His strong guitar play that you hear in his other CDs continues to shine in this CD.
If you bought the CD without this DVD, I personally don't think it's worthwhile to buy this limited edition unless you are a hardcore Juanes fan.

(More customer reviews)The real question that needs to be asked is "Does the record-buying public really need another Moody Blues anthology?" An ever-increasing number of bands from the sixties through the eighties now have more compilations in their catalog than they have studio albums. In the last decade the Moodies have released two studio albums, but no fewer than six anthologies--plus the 4-disc box set TIME TRAVELLER.
If you're a casual fan and don't already own their 1994 box set or 1998's well chosen ANTHOLOGY, you certainly can't go wrong with this 34-track collection. The collection begins with "Tuesday Afternoon" from the classic lineup's 1968 debut DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and continues through "December Snow" from their 2003 holiday album DECEMBER. [As the previous reviewers have noted, "Go Now" is not included, but that 1965 hit came from a lineup that did not include the Moodies' principal songwriters, Justin Hayward and John Lodge.] What you do get is all of their top 40 hits, key album tracks, and a handful of side projects like the Blue Jays' "Remember Me My Friend" and "Blue Guitar," and Justin Hayward's "Forever Autumn" from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of "War of the Worlds." All told this is a very satisfying collection if you're looking for a solid introduction to the Moody Blues. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

(More customer reviews)This album is incredibly strong even with Phil Collins helping on it. The Concert tour which I was fortunate enough to see in England was one of the best ever. She's waiting, Same old blues, knock on wood, are really driving tracks.
But number 10 Just like a prisoner, I feel, is the best on the album, the way he closes it up with Behind the sun makes this an album that should be in everyone's collection.

(More customer reviews)Let me say this right off the bat: I'm a Toby Keith fan. If I say that up front, you'll know I have no agenda (like several others) when I review this album.
It's not his best work.
It has its moments. The first single, "High Maintenence Woman" is a strong track, and there are a few others. "Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya" is a nice addition to his catalog, and I'm sure it will be a single. "I Know She Hung the Moon" is a great ballad that describes not only loving a woman, but being proud of her. I also like "Love Me If You Can" from a lyrical standpoint because it does such a good job of responding to Keith's left-wing critics who actually know very little about him (and it shows). It's a bit bland from a musical perspective, however.
Now that I've pointed out the strong points, on to the CD's weaker moments: I feel that a lot of the other tracks are generic and predictable, and well....a little uninspired. "Get My Drink On" and "Hit It" are your typical kind of barroom whoop-it-ups, and Keith gives us his version of rockabilly for the title track, "Big Dog Daddy." As Keith himself admits, the song was inspired by a promotional event for the new Ford pickup truck. That puts me off a little, especially when the CD booklet contains an obvious paid picture advertisement of Keith with the truck itself. Even without that bit of commercialism, the song is nothing to write home about. Other songs like "White Rose" sound like flat-out filler.
Overall, this CD leaves me a little disappointed. I liked White Trash with Money and Honky Tonk U much better. Maybe the problem is with me and my high expectations. The fact that Keith's previous work led me there is high praise for his talent. I'll give this a few more listens, but I'll probably play his old CDs more often. He probably should have waited until he had some stronger material before he entered the studio this time around.

(More customer reviews)First thing, make sure you get the "limited edition"box set & not just the regular 2-CD set. You'll be sorelydisappointed when you find out what you missed. It's worth the extra money. The hardcover book that comes with it is worth the entire price by itself. Beautiful photos + commentary from the band & set designers, etc. Second thing, I (along with many Floyd fans) have been waiting a very long time for something I haven't heard before. Sure, new Pink Floyd material would be nice, but this 2 disc set of The Wall will definitely satiate the need for a while. I know everyone's heard the album before, but you have never heard it like this. Taken from various concerts at the original Earls Court in London from 1980 and 1981, these songs are among the best I have heard them do live. You've undoubtedly heard some of the songs live on Pulse or Delicate Sound of Thunder (both also great sets), but to finally get to hear the entire The Wall album -- I can only say that it is incredible. Remember the beauty of hearing the live version of Dark Side of the Moon from Pulse? Songs like "Goodbye Blue Sky," "Young Lust," and "Mother" shine on this collection, and more popular songs played many times live -- "Comfortably Numb," "Run Like Hell," and "Another Brick in the Wall" -- well, you have to hear them to hear the differences. I'll just tell you that the guitar & keyboard solos on Another Brick in the Wall make it worth the purchase price. Buy your copy, listen over and over, and keep hoping that Gilmour, Wright & Mason get together again for a new Pink Floyd album. Or maybe they'll do like The Dead & just start putting out a kind of "Dick's Picks" collection of live shows from the past. I could live with that.

Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the release of the original studio album The Wall, Columbia Records is releasing Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live, a sonic document of Pink Floyd\'s legendary live performances of the group\'s groundbreaking tour de force.

Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live will be available as a deluxe, limited-edition double-CD set, packaged in a 64-page hard-cover casebound book with full-color souvenir artwork from the show. The album will also be available in a double-jewelcase edition as well as a double-cassette.

Recorded live on a 48-track mobile studio during the original Earl\'s Court, London, performances (1980-1981), the particular tracks on Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live were handpicked by Pink Floyd producer James Guthrie, who has created a hi-resolution mix for the CD set from the original multi-track concert recordings. In addition to a pristine composite live performance of The Wall in its entirety, Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live includes never-before released bonus music.

Released in December 1979, Pink Floyd\'s The Wall is one of the defining masterpieces of rock culture. Conceived and written by Roger Waters; produced by Dave Gilmour, Bob Ezrin, and Roger Waters, the album\'s ferocity of intelligence and austere depth of musical complexity confounded conventional market wisdom to reach the #1 spot on countless charts around the world while spawning the multi-platinum single and youth anthem "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)."

Over the next two years, The Wall was performed live by Pink Floyd in Los Angeles, New York, Dortmund, and London. Motown A Journey Through Hitsville USA Review

(More customer reviews)It's disgusting and disheartening that a great group like Boyz II Men even has to MAKE a tribute album or that their last full-length album was released exclusively online and in Japan.
Worse yet is the seemingly rampant idea that the Boyz should stop recording because they "just don't sound the same" without Bass (Mike McCary).
Unforgivable is the statement by one idiotic reviewer (who, incidentally, can't even spell or use proper grammar) that this sounds like something a "soccer mom" would make and that it was cheesy because of Randy Jackson's involvement.
The fact of the matter is that people went out and made Ja Rule's remake/sampling of Stevie Wonder's "Do I do" (featuring Case-CASE!!!) a multi-platinum hit. No one complained about a classless rapper "tainting" an old song.
No one pointed out that Lauryn Hill's vocals on "Killing me Softly" were, well, SOFT and nowhere NEAR the original version.
I mean, really...PHARRELL comes out and gets FEATURED as a GUEST VOCALIST on rap songs...and people just laugh it off.
J. Lo, Britney Spears, Mya, Ciara...the list goes on and on of artists who are WHOLLY unworthy to even think about sampling great artists.
And let's not even THINK about forgetting good 'ole Mary J. Blige, who jacked a whole album worth of classic soul songs to PUT HERSELF ON THE MAP.
And with that, I begin my short argument.
First of all, Boyz II Men is--hands down--the greatest male vocal group of the past 17 years of R&B. It's not even close. ONE--JUST ONE--of their albums--II--sold more records and won more awards that Jagged Edge's and 112's ENTIRE CATALOGS PUT TOGETHER...
Second, before the Boyz even endeavored to make this and Throwback, they had already come out with FOUR studio albums, a Spanish album, a platinum Christmas album (that remains the best Christmas album of this generation), and a remix album. This doesn't include chart-topping or near hits that did NOT appear on their albums like "End of the Road", "One Sweet Day" with Mariah Carey, and "I Will Get There" (Prince of Egypt).
The Boyz didn't NEED to ESTABLISH themselves with this record. They merely RE-INTRODUCED some hits from Motown WHILE RE-INTRODUCING THEMSELVES.
Who else could sing "War" like the Boyz did here? Who else could do an acappella version of "End of the Road" featuring the incomparable singer (more comparable song-WRITER, lol), Brian McKnight? With whom else would Patti LaBelle perform "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" by Ashford and Simpson?
112? Not together.
Dru Hill? Too many personality issues...not together or on hiatus...
Jagged Edge? PLEASE. They sing WELL together, but there is NO HARMONY.
Who else IS there???
I realize that attrition is not the strongest argument, so how about this one...The album is actually a 4 1/2 star album.
The production is SUPPOSED TO SOUND DATED because the SONGS are from the 60's and 70's.
I'll admit that the only song I wasn't feeling was "Reach Out". The Boyz' voices don't fit that song. I also think that the Ribbon in the Sky acappella version was beautiful, but loses the individuality of the original and may upset some fans.
However...
"War" (what is-a good for, absolutely nothing) may make some newer listeners think about "Rush Hour"...but that song is SOOOOOOOO appropriate for the times.
"Got to be There" was a very beautiful song.
"Ain't nothing like the real thing--very soulful (actually this whole album has a lot more soul than we are used to from the Boyz and THAT IS GOOD.)
"Easy" was just magnificent--it's a tie between that one and "War" for the best song on the album.
"End of the Road"--yes, it's different without Mike, but he was never the centerpiece of the group...the other members sang all of the leads and his presence, while missed, is not fatal.
"All My Love"--wow...just WOW.No, the album isn't perfect, but neither was "II"--which is considered the group's best.
It's more in line with "Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya", which was considered a very good album.
Pick it up and listen to it all the way through...This album made me think of my childhood (I'm 31) growing up with Mom (RIP) and Dad listening to these classics...what will it remind you of??
4 1/2 stars...Very good album--WAYYYYYYYYY better than any other male vocalists out there.
P.S. Please do not be so spoiled by the relative greatness of Boyz II Men's airtight vocals that you can't appreciate living (and still young--mid-thirties) legends. People do that with Take 6.
John Stephens may call himself a legend, but the Boyz don't have to--Let's stand up and give them the ovation they deserve--as LIVING LEGENDS.

On November 13, 2007 the Decca Label Group will be releasing a new Boyz II Men CD that will be a tribute to some of Motown's Classic songs including The Temptations "Just My Imagination", The Miracles "Tracks Of My Tears", The Four Tops "Reach Out I'll Be There" and more all produced by American Idol's Randy Jackson. Boyz II Men is the most successful R&B male vocal group of all time. They've recorded five #1 R&B hits between 1992 and 1997 and have since sold more than 90 million albums and 50 million singles. Three of their #1 hits, "End of the Road", "I'll Make Love to You", and "One Sweet Day" (with Mariah Carey), set and broke records for the longest period of time a single remained at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Moody Blues: Lovely to See You (2005) (2006) Review

(More customer reviews)This DVD is basically the "Set" from the group's 2004 and 2005 tours, give or take a song, so it is very recent and covers the entire Moodies' span from "Tuesday Afternoon" to "December Snow." It's too bad that Ray Thomas isn't with them, but the flute is handled beautifully without him. For a complete concert, this disc may be the best overall. "Red Rocks" seemed to have good energy but in the early part of the concert, they seemed a bit "off," and the audio mix was weak on the vocals. "Hall of Fame" was a little better on the audio mix, but the energy didn't seem to be there and the song list was a bit short. On this latest disc, you get songs that don't appear elsewhere including Graeme's "Higher and Higher" dance, and Justin's "Forever Autumn" rendition. I've bought every Moody Blues DVD I can find, and I think this is the best one of the bunch so far. (And as a bonus, you get a half-hour of interview footage with the 3 remaining Moodies). (More customer reviews)This is, without a doubt, the BEST new band and album that I have stumbled across in a loooooooong time!
As a guy in my mid-30's (wife, kids, & job have taken over my life)... it's very frustrating trying to find "new" music that is compelling, original, and meaningful. Equally hard to find an entire album that can be enjoyed from start to finish. These guys have managed to accomplish ALL of these things!
I won't try to overly categorize this band. Suffice it to say that they clearly manage to express some punk-rock influences without "being" overtly punk-rock. The prevailing style of the album revolves around driving anthems that crescendo into beautiful climaxes. They don't seem interested in being or sounding like anyone else in particular. The energy that these guys generate is infectious. And the vocals just seem so sincere that, despite the obvious and unapologetic Scottish accent, it becomes intriguing and makes you WANT to listen more closely.
2 listens and it was over, for me. I was HOOKED! This is the type of band that you can't help wanting to share with others... primarily b/c you just know that your friends will ultimately thank you for it.
Buy 2 copies of this album!!!...(so you'll have an extra copy to give to that person you know, who always finds the best new bands first, but has not heard of these guys, yet!)

(More customer reviews)Most "fusion" recordings remind me of a pretentious little restaurant in Salt Lake City that jumbles together French haute cuisine and Chinese condiments. Name of "Haut Chinoise" or some such--three perfectly poached spears of asparagus, garnished with ginger. Right. The digestif is a chocolate-dipped fortune cookie.
But occasionally something comes along like Yehudi Menuhin's collaborations with Ravi Shankar or this, cellist Yo-Yo Ma's ambitious blend of classical instruments with the music of central and eastern Asia; and the potential for evolving new art from spliced traditions is realized.
This is not classical slumming, nor is it Middle Eastern folk music jazzed up. It hasn't the odd discontinuity one hears when the trained voice of an opera star sings gospel music or folk songs "correctly." The compositions and arrangements present a unified suite of sound, moving as comfortably as a caravan from Renaissance Italy (with a side trip to Finland!) to Persia, Mongolia, and into China.
The sound is exotic, from the initial shock of the piercing Mongolian street singer's shrill tremulo to the belly dance rhythms of the later pieces. The quality of the sound is impeccable, as one would expect of an artist as meticulous at Yo-yo Ma. I heard this on the radio, and ordered it immediately. How glad I am, that CDs don't wear out.

The Unforgettable Fire (Super Deluxe Edition 2CD+DVD) Review

(More customer reviews)I've never been very happy with U2's 1980s work on CD. The mastering was not done well for the format and it really took some life out of it. Now that has mostly been corrected (Rattle and Hum is the lone 80s album yet to be remastered).
This box set is fantastic, in the tradition of The Joshua Tree box set from 2007. You get a beautiful book with pictures and comments from Eno, Lanois, and others reminiscing. The lyrics are there as well, something excluded for the CD release. Also some nice black and white photographs on textured parchment that are frame worthy.
The first disc is the album, sounding better than ever. Adam's bass is more pronounced here and the dynamic range of the CD is finally put to good use, giving as a better feel for each song. Very well done. There's stuff in there that I had not heard before, only ever hearing the old CD version.
The second disc is full of extras. Only a few songs had not been released in the past. Most of it is remastered stuff that appeared as b-sides for the singles or on the Wide Awake In America EP, making that EP obsolete. Disappearing Act is a great song, featuring recently added vocals by Bono, much like Wave Of Sorrow on Joshua Tree. Yoshino Blossom is a good instrumental that had not been officially released. Then there are two remixes of Wire and an excellent Sort of Homecoming remix done by Daniel Lanois as he was working with Peter Gabriel on So. And because of that you can hear Gabriel on this quite excellent version of the song.
Everything else on this disc was released before but it sounds better than ever, just like the album itself. It also compiles all the releases that occurred surrounding The Unforgettable Fire into one set.
Now onto the DVD. It features music videos from this album. Two for Pride and "live" videos for Bad and A Sort Of Homecoming as they were released to MTV. We also get The Unforgettable Fire documentary - so it is basically the old Unforgettable Fire Collection that was released on video cassette back in the 80s (and it is called that on the box set). So that's the first time it has been released on DVD.
The second bit on the DVD is live material. A couple of songs from the 1986 Conspiracy of Hope Tour and U2's Live Aid performance. The second Pride music video (Sepia version) is found here as is a bootleg video of 11 O'Clock Tick Tock. I'm not sure why the bootleg is on there as the quality is not all that good.
Overall the set is great. The one complaint could be that they didn't include the concert from Dortmund that was recorded for this tour, but I can also understand why it was not included. Much of that music was covered in the restored DVD release of Under A Blood Red Sky that featured the full concert outside of Fire as that footage was unusable. However, it would have been nice to have a live version of The Unforgettable Fire, a live version of Wire, and a live version of A Sort of Homecoming. Indian Summer Sky was only played a few times and it didn't come off well. Promenade, 4th of July, and Elvis Presley and America were never played. So ultimately the only critique I'd levy would be the lack of performances for those three songs (the performance video for Sort of Homecoming wasn't a real performance video nor was that concert performance a real concert performance - it was a soundcheck recording with audience reaction thrown in).
I'd guess that U2 either doesn't have the rights to the Dortmund show, they don't like it, or they're saving it for a release at some later date (a boxed set of U2 live shows on DVD would be nice).
But that is really a minor complaint. This great album sounds better than ever. The DVD gives you some good stuff and the extras CD is full of goodies, old and new.
A must buy for any fan.

Let Love in Review

(More customer reviews)Things change a lot in 4 years. Bands come and go; groups that were once on top of the world become bargain bin material in your local record store. Averaging three years between albums hasn't hurt The Goo Goo Dolls' Johnny Rzeznik, Robbie Takac, and Mike Malinin, however. Their new release, Let Love In, which I have had on constant rotation since getting the pre-release last week, is a strongly enjoyable album. Let Love In delivers the audience a deliciously comfortable slice of pure radio-friendly music.
The album kicks off with two songs sure to be big singles. Stay With You is an amped up song, its strong melodies and uplifting beats resonate wonderfully. Let Love In is musically lush; Strong acoustic guitar and great fuzzy bass tones join ethereal strings that highlight lyrics sure to make the heart ache, "the only way we'll feel again, the only way to see again, is to let love in." Feel The Silence has an addictive beat and comforting chorus. The fourth and best track on the album, Better Days,is a plea for love and tolerance in a fractured world; A somber piano melody accompanies emotional lyrics, "Tonight's the night the world begins again" and "there's something only you can give..that's faith and trust and peace while you're alive," while a full orchestra builds to an emotionally pleasing crescendo. This song will be on every radio. Without You is a bit of a pleasant surprise musically, as if U2's Edge jumped into the studio to play lead guitar on this laid back mid-tempo song.
The album's midway point gives us Robbie's first vocal with Listen, a song sure to please the Robbie fans and infuriate the Robbie haters. Give a Little Bit follows, makes its encore return from last year's single release. As cover songs go, this is one of the best in recent years, ideally blending Rzeznik's voice and 12-string guitar. Can't Let it Go is probably the closest thing to a Black Balloon on this record, "You were no angel, and I was no saint, but somehow I can't let it go." When You're Gone feels like filler track at first but becomes better and better with every listen. Strange Love is Robbie second vocal track. This is the first real departure from the Dolls normal style, offering an 80's feel with piano notes floating over a repeating chorus. This would make a great track for a movie. The closing track Become is decent enough but leaves you with a slightly off aftertaste as it can't seem to decide what kind of song it wants to be.
For you Doll fans counting at home, this album has 9 Johnny and 2 Robbie vocals. The record as a whole is fairly laid back, without any fast tempo rock tracks that earlier albums had. Glen Ballard's production on this album gives us tighter and better melodies and smoother choruses, but the songs as a whole are more atmospheric than rocked out. More instruments and effects are used, layering the songs with more depth and complexity than the three-chord punch of yesteryear. Some feel that this album is too laid back at first play, but it grows considerably better with repeated listens. Those that don't like the softer side of Goo may be unhappy with this album, as Let Love In doesn't take dramatic risks in songwriting or stray far from the Dolls recent formula of success. It is an ear friendly album sure to be on constant rotation this year and will be a crowd pleaser. Recommended.

The Statler Brothers: Farewell Concert (2005) Review

(More customer reviews)My first complete introduction to the Statlers was their Nashville TV Show that ran for 7 years. It was a great variety hour that showcased many new and veteran entertainers and unique acts with jugglers, magician's, etc. But the famous singing group got started with a Johnny Cash tour.
The concert was filmed live in West Virginia, October 2002. Unfortunately, it is not in stereo, but monotone. Picture and sound are crisp and clear.
Anymore, a Farewell Concert doesn't imply complete retirement. The Statlers will continue to make music and some will be writing books, as a memoir is due in 2006. They have just simply retired from touring.

What I like about the Statlers performing live is that they always keep the songs true to the original recordings. Each man lends a different voice that harmonizes so well. And as corny as Harold can get, he is always funny to me. His humor is interjected. The men pay tribute to the All American Band, their families, the office staff, road crew etc. They didn't leave anyone out.

They included wonderful hits from their gospel side with "How Great Thou Art, "This Old House" "Thank You World" and "Amazing Grace".
The Statlers have either written or chosen, very good music with meaningful lyrics. Each time your listen to these storytelling songs, you hear something more, something refreshing and the lyrics are vivid and memorable, such as the endearing classic "Do You Remember These"; "Class Of '57"; "Randolph Scott"; and "Susan When She Tried"; "Elizabeth" and "More Than a Name on a Wall."
I have loved their version of "Memories Are Made of This"; "Moments to Remember" and "The Great Pretender." They sang their first hit, "Flowers on the Wall"; and a beautiful song, "Too Much On My Heart", plus "Bed of Roses".
Also included are "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine"; "Oh Baby Mine"; "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You", and "A Place On Calvary."
This is a keeper DVD for a night of great music.....Rizzo

(More customer reviews)I'm not unique in that I like Roger Waters and old Pink Floyd (Waters & Co. from DSOTM). But I seemed to be on a limb with many listeners concerning the new (1994 is new? -- David Gilmour and Co.) Pink Floyd. There is obviously strong camps for one or the other, and the customer reviews of any Pink Floyd CD brings this out rather vehemently. Me? I love them all, past, present, and future(?). All I have to do is listen to the first few guitar strings of ANY Pink Floyd cut, and I sit back in anticipation, knowing I'm listenening to one of my favorite groups. It doesn't matter to me if it's Roger or David. It doesn't matter to me if it's a cut from "The Wall" or from "Division Bell". It's Pink Floyd, whether it's the group or an individual.
As far as "Amused to Death"? The very first moment the sound began drifting from my speakers, I smiled. From the battle-weary old man mumbling remembrances through the satirical "What God Wants" and "It's a Miracle", I find Roger at his cynical best, and I begin waxing nostalgic. Here is the anger and the bite that I have missed for so many years. Here is the cynicism, both modern and old...and weary, so clearly resonating from Roger's anguished voice. Ahhhh, I wish...I wish....
The rumor mill continues, but if wishes were...heck, you know the old saying as well as I. The truly sad thing is, I don't know if I'll ever hear anything coming from either camp ever again. Roger has been silent since 1992, and David Gilmour since 1994. All I can do now is sit back and listen and remember a talented group of individuals who have given me hundreds of hours of pleasure.Between 1 and 10, I give "Amused to Death", perhaps Waters' best solo work, a solid 8. Thank you, Roger. And thank you, David. I miss all of you.

(More customer reviews)For my money they were one of the most important acts in American popular music in the 20th century. The Statler Brothers would rank right up there with the Mills Brothers, Ol' Blue Eyes, Elvis and Bing. After all, they were a fixture on the country music charts for more than a quarter century. They hosted a highly successful variety show on the Nashville network for seven years. And audiences flocked to see them perform for nearly four decades. And like the Mills Brothers before them the Statlers had their own inimitable sound.
"Farewell Concert" is a celebration of the phenomenal career of the Statler Brothers. The 2 disc set features a dozen of the groups most memorable chart hits including "Elizabeth", "More Than A Name On A Wall", the moving tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us in Vietnam as well as two of my very favorite Statler hits "The Class of '57" and "Do You Remember These". And as anyone who has ever been to a Statler Brothers concert knows the group always liked to dabble in all kinds of music. And so the group highlights some of their favorite tunes from the 1950's including "Oh Baby Mine" (aka "I Get So Lonely"), "Moments To Remember", "Memories Are Made of This" and one the groups all-time favorites "The Great Pretender." And if you watched the TV show you know that Harold always had a story or two. Such is the case here as well. And in the final segment the group treats us to a few familiar gospel tunes including of course "How Great Thou Art" and the closing number "Amazing Grace" which was the first song the group ever sang together. And so while we will never see Harold, Phil, Don and Jimmy perform again it is a comfort to know that this final concert has been recorded for posterity.
It is an outstanding disc and one that I will cherish for the rest of my days. The Statler Brothers were truly one of my all time favorites! Very highly recommended!
