Tangerine Dream Live Cleveland 1986 Review

Ok I was at this concert and while a LOT of time has past, I do remember this concert with great fondeness. In fact I meet TD at Captain Franks(a now closed sea food restauarnt in Cleveland) after the concert. This recording meets my memory and matches what I heard in the actual concert. The raw unproceesed nature (if you can say that with TD) of the recording is obvious. I bought this because I was there. If you have no sentimental reasons to buy it, than stick to the studio albums. In fact I just found the tour book sitting in a drawer next to my computer.

Laurie Z's Life Between The Lines is one of my all time favorite CD's! I have owned that fabulous piece of work for probably 8 years and I can say it is a "timeless" CD. The variation of songs and the compositiion of each and every one is so beautiful. I never get tired of it.
I have played her music in my clothing stores , sitting down to dinner with friends, planting flowers in my garden, driving in my car. It is a must have CD!

Laurie Z.'s musical education and experience was extensive and diverse. A classically trained pianist whose influences included Beethoven, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and Elton John, Laurie Z.'s music has been enjoyed throughout the world. At a time when few women shared her knowledge of MIDI, synthesizers and computers, Laurie had the honor of being one of the few women to be a Consultant and Product Specialist for Roland, Kawai, Alesis and Yamaha Corporations. The depth, intensity and sophistication of Laurie's second release, Life Between The Lines, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut "Window to The World," all reflect the talent of Laurie Z. LIFE expresses a range of human emotions as it covers a range of musical styles from classical to jazz, from new age to rock, from gospel to ambient. Her life, her emotions, her soul...every note on this album is a gift from the heart, tender in all its vulnerability, for you to experience and share.Laurie Z. - Keyboards, pianoPer Kjeller-Guitar - Acoustic GuitarJeff Falcone - Drums John Meadows - Bass, Fretless Bass Alan Palmer - Tenor SaxJeff Hogan - Bass Tom Tally Viola

These Four Walls Review

This is, without a doubt, the BEST new band and album that I have stumbled across in a loooooooong time!
As a guy in my mid-30's (wife, kids, & job have taken over my life)... it's very frustrating trying to find "new" music that is compelling, original, and meaningful. Equally hard to find an entire album that can be enjoyed from start to finish. These guys have managed to accomplish ALL of these things!
I won't try to overly categorize this band. Suffice it to say that they clearly manage to express some punk-rock influences without "being" overtly punk-rock. The prevailing style of the album revolves around driving anthems that crescendo into beautiful climaxes. They don't seem interested in being or sounding like anyone else in particular. The energy that these guys generate is infectious. And the vocals just seem so sincere that, despite the obvious and unapologetic Scottish accent, it becomes intriguing and makes you WANT to listen more closely.
2 listens and it was over, for me. I was HOOKED! This is the type of band that you can't help wanting to share with others... primarily b/c you just know that your friends will ultimately thank you for it.
Buy 2 copies of this album!!!...(so you'll have an extra copy to give to that person you know, who always finds the best new bands first, but has not heard of these guys, yet!)

Like fellow Scotsmen Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks bring emotional intensity to the forefront in their immensely appealing rock anthems. Adding nimble, driving rhythms and bristling tension to the mix, they unfold their songs into effortless-seeming choruses imbued with romanticism and pop sensibility.

Moby: Live - Hotel Tour 2005 (2005) Review

Moby: Live - Hotel Tour 2005 (2005)

Over the years Richard Melville Hall has copped a lot of flack from various music circles. To rave aficionados he's the bastard child who betrayed his roots by disputing the genre's relevance. To dance purists he's the sell-out who chased the mighty dollar via multiple advertising deals. To lovers of Deep South Negro spirituals he's the man who whored Alan Lomax field recordings for hits such as Honey, Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? and Run On. And to Eminem, he's eternally the "36-year-old boy in fag clothing".
It's true that he takes himself to seriously and has confusingly mixed morals when it comes to politics, drug use and animal activism, but Moby's 20 years of music making ensures his live shows are a blast. From early dance party successes such as the Twin Peaks-sampling Go to his latest David Bowie-aping single Spiders, on the new DVD Live - Hotel Tour 2005 Moby takes his audience through a diverse range of music styles.
Covering seminal punk, rock and dance tunes such as That's When I Reach For My Revolver, Walk On The Wild Side and Temptation is a risky proposition, but apart from Moby's quivering vocal style the overall package is solid. Moby's female vocalist Laura Dawn makes her mark on hits Find My Baby, Dream About Me and Feeling So Real, with her pint-sized New York boss doing the rock star guitarist thing on We Are All Made Of Stars, Bodyrock and Lift Me Up.
As with previous Moby DVDs, value for money comes via a host of extras, this time including Hotel videos (including the bizarre costume animal wife-swapping debauchery of Beautiful), bonus live tracks, home movies and a remix CD of Moby's latest tracks featuring hot producers Steve Angello, Tiga and Mylo.
Hotel might have been pretty vacant, but Live is a five star stay.

First Encounter Tour 1996 Review

My knowledge of this band comes from the work they have done with Brian Eno, "After the Heat", Cluster and Eno, "Begegnungen I, and Begegnungen II, to name a few. Cluster a band made up of the ground breaking electronic duo from Germany, Hans Joachim Roedelius & Dieter Moebius. This pair have never toured the U.S., this being the first I was thrilled to hear of this recording. Also performing with Cluster are the Brain and Bond Bergland, although I've heard of these two, I am not familiar with their work. This is a two CD set with each CD holding more than 75 minute of music each. The music ranges from Quiet background sounds to hardedged distorted guitar, with a little industrial thrown in. This music can be dream like or memory enhancing. Sit back and become one with the music, taking your own history along for the ride, with recollections of past and future, the dark and brooding, and the hopeful and inspiring. These disks contain it all. The electronic expertise, with the subtleties that come with maturity can be heard and seen in these performances. I have never been to a musical performance of this style of music, but with Roedelius currently touring the U.S. and Canada, I will find out first hand the power of the player.

This is a great release; a rare glimpse of Patton at work beyond the gloomy mask of Bungle or the psychotic front of FNM.
Patton is an elusive man, and it is hard to feel as though one has a grasp of what he is trying to say through his music as a result. As an artist, we hope that he is communicating something, but with such diversity throughout his career, one can be forgiven for wondering what on earth Patton is on about at times! (don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan, and even though there have been some real "what the..." moments, I have been faithful in my pursuit of his art!)
This release shows the side of Patton that says, 'Music is music. I sing, therefore I am.' I put it in the same file as Kang's 'Virginal Coordinates' release, where Patton lent his voice, and took an amazing piece of music and made it uniquely Patton; often without saying one word... just humming along to the melody! Patton's release with Kaada on CD again gave us Patton's voice, which is second to none in this genre, but this DVD has given us Patton the PERSON (at least, Patton and what he looks like when he enters into the experience of making music!); a look at why this Patton/Kaada release was something that he lent his voice to.

I've said bugger all about the product itself (e.g., 'song such and such just makes me want to squirt tears all over my persian cat every time I hear it...' It has a lot to do with the fact that I don't have a persian, and it's not that depressing a product). That's because my opinion of the product will be different from yours. But what I have commented on is the resulting feeling I get when I enter into Patton's world. This DVD has helped me understand more about the message of an artist.
I wonder if more DVD's of Patton's work (such as 'Adult Themes For Voice' or 'Pranzo Oltranzista' to name a few... two, to be precise) might just make them a little more accessible to people wanting to share the journey of Patton's music???
