I'm an old-fart, stuck-in-the-80's metal head and a jazz nut, but every now and then a pop record comes along that makes me go "WOW! That's good!". "Fever" was one of those for me. Body Language was sensual, but just ok for me. I listened to this on Yahoo and I can't wait to get the CD/DVD. The lyrics are a little risque for my little ones to go around repeating, but I'm quite okay with the idea of my wife giving me a wink and singing one of these songs to me at night:-)
This CD crosses a slew of pop sounds but somehow maintains a very strong continuity.
The opening track saunters across your ears like a stripper walking across the stage ready to seduce you.
The next three songs(Like a drug, In My Arms and my favorite, Speakerphone) and a few other tracks are sexually charged throwbacks to 80's synth bands like Stacey Q (and SSQ) that keep the mood going.
Songs like Sensitized, Nu-Di-Ty, and Heart Beat Rock make sure that there is only one thing on your mind while listening, and it ain't world peace.
In between, there are songs with cool lilting hooks and trademake sweet, soft, sexy vocals like "All I see", which could be a Janet Jackson, Brandy or Tony Braxton song from the mid 90's, and "No More Rain" with a beautiful melody line and a beat that makes me close my eyes think of the days when I used to drive my convertible along the beach at sunset with my beautiful blonde girlfriend (now wife) at my side. Kylie knowns and shows it's good to throw a little love into the lovin'.
The CD closes with the vocally-centric Cosmic, kind of like having a sweet nightcap after all of that energy expended for the first 13 tracks.
Sometimes I like to put on Sade or Basia or even Enya for "night love" music. But every now and then you want something just a little funkier and sweet and smooth and cool and this CD pulls it off perfectly.
I love it.

Steps - Gold: The Greatest Hits Review

I cannot believe, that after all Steps have done, American people have not given a chance for Steps to make it big in the US market. First of all, allow me to let you in a few secrets of why Steps should be given a chance in the US:
-Steps have now overtaken the Spice Girls in the list of most successful acts in the British charts.
-Steps are now next to the Beatles in most successful bands in the U.K
-This album has turned 4x Platinum in the UK
-Steps tours are amazing... Smash Hits Pollwinners Party Awards - Best Live Act: STEPS! - selling out hundreds of concerts.
-They've sold millions and millions of copies of their 3 albums.
-They don't have just one number 1 single, but more than 5.
Well there's just tonnes of reasons why Steps should be given a serious chance in the U.S... just can't get to all of them at the moment.
The Steps Gold Greatest Hits album gathers all of Steps biggest UK singles. It's got 4 new songs, which are amazing!
11.Chain Reaction-an awesome cover of Diana Ross's "Chain Reaction".
12.Baby Don't Dance-a song with an 80's beat to it. Wicked song, which btw is due out on Feb 2002 as the band's next single... can't wait!
17.Only In My Dreams-a nice song, glad they added it to the Gold album.
18.Words Are Not Enough-their current single, which entered the U.K single charts at number 5 =/. Luv the song and the computer animated vid =D.
Just yesterday, Steps finished off their Gold Tour concert with a televised (Pay Per View) concert in the U.K from Manchester. Since I, unfortunately, was not able to assist to any of the concerts can't tell you much. I have, however, read reviews of the tour and it appears to be the band's greatest tour ever! And that must be something since the past tours have been 5 stars! I wish so bad there was a way for me to see it. It will be released on DVD/VHS but I'm in region 1 and use NTSC VHS so there's no way I can see it =(... but those of you who can... it's worth it, believe me!
Jive, please, you have got to put more effort promoting Steps in the U.S and Steps keep up the good work =).

Greatest Hits (W/Dvd) Review

Greatest Hits (W/Dvd)

The SPICE GIRLS was a short-lived pop group back in the late 90s. After losing a member and unofficially splitting up, each girl went and had a solo career in music. The total number of solo albums they recorded is greater than the number of albums they made as a group. However, discussing further their solo albums is not relevant in this review.
After more than five years since they released their last album Forever, the girls had finally agreed to reunite for a "world" tour and the much-awaited (by the fans) Greatest Hits.
This particular item is the CD/DVD edition. All their singles are included in the CD, from Wannabe to Headlines (Friendship Never Ends). The radio edits and single versions of the songs are used. So for those who only have their albums you finally get the single version of 2 Become 1, in which Victoria sang the fourth verse instead of Geri.
Their well-known Pepsi advert theme song called Move Over (Generation Next), and a second new track Voodoo (Headlines is the other one) are included here to complete the 15 tracks that composed the CD.
What's better in this album is that the songs had been remastered. Though not mentioned in the inlay of the album, the improvement over the sound of the tracks can be heard, especially in Who Do You Think You Are.
The DVD contains all of their music videos sans Headlines (the US version includes Headlines though). It's fun to watch once more their cool videos such as the futuristic Spice Up Your Life, the sexy Holler, and the MTV-awarded Viva Forever. You'll get to notice some cute and petty little things in their videos which you might not have noticed before, since during their time DVD was not yet popular.
If you want to relive 90's music, have a happy/light mood, have fun, or maybe dance, then this album is recommended for you. The SPICE GIRLS may not have lasted long. But their impact in music and their legacy are presented once again in this album.

Oops... I Did It Again Review

Oops... I Did It Again

This is the Asian import version of the Britney Spears album, "Oops!...I Did It Again". It comes packaged in a 2CD jewel case that is inside a paper sleave. The 2CD jewel case cover is the same as all the other versions of this album, while the paper sleave cover is the one you see above. The booklet is exactly the same as the others. As for the songs on, it has a total of 15 tracks:
1. - "Oops!...I Did It Again"
2. - "Stronger"
3. - "Don't Go Knockin' On My Door"
4. - "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
5. - "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know"
6. - "What U See (Is What U Get)"
7. - "Lucky"
8. - "One Kiss From You"
9. - "Where Are You Now"
10. - "Can't Make You Love Me"
11. - "When Your Eyes Say It"
12. - "Girl In The Mirror"
13. - "You Got It All"
14. - "Heart" [Bonus Track]
15. - "Dear Diary"
The CD has "Heart" listed as the only bonus track, but compared to the U.S. version, tracks 12-14 are all bonus tracks. The 2nd CD that comes with this is a VCD (VideoCD - works with DVDs and computers). It contains the following:
1. - "Oops!...I Did It Again" [Full Music Video]
2. - "Lucky" [Full Music Video]
3. - "Stronger" [Full Music Video]
4. - "Oops!...I Did It Again" [Karaoke]
5. - "Lucky" [Karaoke]
6. - "Stronger" [Karaoke]
In case your wondering what it means by 'Karaoke', it means that it shows the music video but it has the words on the screen so you can sing along. The music videos are all complete and they are okay quality. If you would happen to get this CD, pop it into your computer and find the VCD doesn't work (which is what happened to me), don't panic....
Overall, I think this CD is very good. It is worth it if you like her music videos, bonus tracks, and you like collecting Britney stuff. ....

Britney Spears - Live from Las Vegas (2001) Review

Britney Spears - Live from Las Vegas (2001)
Average Reviews:

I happened to be going to a conference in Vegas the week that Britney was performing at the MGM Grand. I heard Rosie O'Donnel Say on her show that she had just got tickets for the Britney show in Vegas on the 18th of November. Not paying much attention I quickly forgot all about it. The following day I got bored at work and while daydreaming I remembered what Rosie had said and thought, what the heck, "I'll check out the ticket prices", Figuring that they would be sold out for sure and I had no idea of when they went on sale. Much to my surprise they still had seats available, so I (just to see) typed in 2 seats and I could not believe that the seats were really good and not high priced considering what I have paid recently for concert tickets, like for Madonna. (well worth it though).
Anyway, bought the tickets, went to the show and although compared to the majority of those around me, I felt like a grandpa(I am 30). Even so, as much as I tried to act my age, before I knew it, I was up on my feet and feeling the energy.
I was not expecting much and have to say was embarrased to admit to anyone at home that I was even going. After her incredible show, I have admited to everyone that I am a fan of Britney Spears and you will be too, I guarantee it! I am sure the DVD will be less powerful than seeing it live, but just feel her amazing energy and see her for what she is, A young woman living out her dreams and allowing us to tag along! AMAZING!

In the Zone (+ Bonus CD) (2003) Review

In the Zone (+ Bonus CD) (2003)

Being the massive Britney Spears fan that I am, I knew straight away that I had to own this DVD. It was just released in the UK two days ago, and I bought it on the day it was released, which was also two days after one of the greatest nights of my life. You see, on Saturday May 1st 2004 I travelled to Manchester in England to see Britney Spears live on part of her Onyx Hotel Tour that is currently sweeping the world! My voice is gradually returning, but losing it (along with my head) was worth it just to see her up close! Currently on a Spears-high, this DVD was my most essential purchase for quite a few weeks, and I am very happy with it, not only because it contains so many brilliant features, but because it is a perfect addition to any true fans' collection!
People have complained that all the material on this DVD has already been on TV countless times before, but not everyone lives in America (I don't), so most of the stuff on here was new to me. The DVD cover is the same as the multi-platinum No.1 album "In The Zone," and this instantly makes the two sort of companions to each other. The first feature on the DVD is probably the best of the lot. It's the ABC Television Special - "Britney Spears: In The Zone" which was broadcast across America on the eve of the release of Britney's fourth album. In an intimate setting Britney performs to some of her biggest fans. She sings "Toxic," "Breathe On Me," "Boys/I'm A Slave 4 U," "(I Got That) Boom Boom," "Everytime," "...Baby One More Time" and "Me Against The Music." Seven great songs there, seven great performances. Woven in-between these performances are some brilliant clips of Britney during the recording process of the album. The best one for me is where Britney is in a Taxi and feeling free for the first time in a while - you can see tears in her eyes too. Very sweet!
After this fantastic feature, we move on to MTV's "Spankin New Music Week On TRL" Times Square Performance. This is yet another brilliant feature because we get to see one of Britney's first public performances of 2003 after her year-long hiatus. She sings "Me Against The Music" and "(I Got That) Boom Boom" featuring Ying Yang Twins Live. Both performances are brilliant and her pants are so cool! And her hat! After this, we move onto the full-length video to "Me Against The Music" featuring Madonna. This really is one of Britney's greatest music videos to date and was very pricey too! Two icons duetting on one spectacular, dance-tastic smash hit is a feast for the eyes! Everyone has seen this video a million times, though!
We then move onto a really cool feature, which is MTV's "Making The Video" for "Toxic." This has been shown before, but it's nice to finally own it for yourself. We see the brilliant production of Britney's true comeback song and we also see a really funny and charismatic superstar at the centre. The best bits are when Britney watches her old "Making The Video" series from years past, and when she breaks the plunger that she uses to climb up the wall, especially when she claims, "I am SO strong!" She's so sweet. Then of course we get the full video to "Toxic," which is absolutely spectacular! If this doesn't win multiple VMA's in August/September later on this year, there's something wrong! This is the song that has rightfully put Britney back on top in 2004 as the world's biggest superstar! A massive No.1 all over the world and one of the biggest radio hits of the past year has made this already an anthemic, classic pop tune. We then get "In The Personal Zone" which is a fantastic documentary in which Britney reveals all on Inspiration, Spirituality, ABC Special, Onyx Hotel Tour, TRL Performance and Toxic. We also get a really sexy photo gallery of Britney!
Also includes along with this DVD is a four-track Bonus CD. I have the UK Region 2 DVD version of this, so the two main songs I have are "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" and "Girls And Boys." However, as an American purchaser you get "The Answer" and "Don't Hang Up," which are two brilliant songs (the former R'n'B, the latter Dance) that feature on my version of the In The Zone album! Very confusing indeed, but there's also two fantastic remixes included! These are "Toxic (Lenny Bertoldo's Radio Mix)" and "Me Against The Music (Bloodshy & Avant's Chix Mix)." I personally prefer the Toxic remix, but the remix of Me Against The Music isn't bad either!
OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
In the past we've received some brilliant Britney Spears DVD's. We've had "Time Out With Britney" and "Live And More!" which were both superb. We then had the rather disappointing "Britney: The Videos," followed by the amazing "Britney Spears: Live From Las Vegas" and "Crossroads." Of course, there was the brilliant DVD included with the book Stages that followed Britney around on the Mexican leg of her Dream Within A Dream Tour of 2002. I have to say though, that "In The Zone" is the best DVD/video that Britney has released to date! I suggest that if you're a big Britney fan you buy this straight away, you won't regret it!

This video is very well done and is definitly worth getting. If you saw the 'NSA' tour live this year, this video lets you go behind the scenes to see all the blood, sweat and tears that were put into it. It helps you to see that the tour is MUCH more than just 90 minutes of performing. Its weeks and months full of rehearsals and work, and about 10 hours just to put up and take down the stage! I recommend this to any 'Nsync fan!

Making of the Tour originally aired on MTV as a half-hour special and offers a behind-the scenes look at the preparations needed for such an extravagant tour. Making of the Tour is over one hour long and contains footage not featured in the original MTV special. Fans will get a sneak peek into the touring process with footage from rehearsals and band meetings discussing lights, wardrobe, staging, sets and other important aspects of this hugely successful show. As an added bonus, Making of the Tour will contain video clips for the smash hit singles "Bye Bye Bye," "It's Gonna Be Me," and "This I Promise You."
