This Japanese mini-lp replica version of Clash's best album is simply a work of art! Very beautifully designed with all the lyrics included and with a sound quality remastered to perfection.
This is by far the best version of this album that is out there; great sound quality, great packaging, great songs! A must have in any CD collector's library.

Not Without Sorcery Review

Helios Creed, the acid-punk, space rock genius, has been recording albums/music constantly and consistently since he first joined up with Damon Edge to make CHROME what it was, back in 1977. And of course has since carried on the CHROME legacy and as well has gone on to record his own solo material with a bevy of absolutely incredible albums- many of which are, sadly, out of print.
These tracks on "Not Without Sorcery" are what Helios recorded, for lack of better words, during an "interim" period; meaning these are recordings that lie between the recordings of his last full length album "Deep Blue Love Vacuum", and his forthcoming albums (CHROME and Helios Creed solo), which will hopefully be released sooner than later.
For anyone who isn't already a Helios/Chrome fan- this may not be the best example of what Helios is all about, as it definitely isn't produced or configured the way most of his other albums are. Nonetheless, it's Helios all the way, and a great little EP that- for those who know, love and "get" Helios- is an absolute MUST have. All of the tracks are great, and definitely showcase his knack for coming up with super catchy, and trippy riffs- along with his dark goofiness, which comes shining through in "Win you over Again" where he's definitely not hiding the fact that he truly enjoys, and has a blast making music. The fun is pretty damn contagious! In my opinion, the highlight of this EP is the track "Lion's Gate" which is spacey, catchy, and outright beautiful with a captivating intensity but, as I stated before- ALL the tracks are great. And may or may not end up appearing on any future release(s) so my final recommendation- PICK THIS UP! While you still can. There were limited copies produced, and the price seems to spike up and down depending on demand but I have yet to see this go for less than $7-8. Definitely a collector's item and one to enjoy and play as well as hold on to. :-)

Another State of Mind (1984) Review

Another State of Mind (1984)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before MTV auditioned 7 people to live in an unbelievable house and call it "real", there was "Another State of Mind". Before 7 or 8 more people had the privilege to cruise in an awesome bus, there were the kids of Social Distortion and Youth Brigade clunking around in a beat-up old School Bus from the 70's!
In October of 1982, Youth Brigade lead singer Sean Stern had the idea to "tour" the U.S. along with a "pretty good" band named Social Distortion. The tour was a failure, but the footage of their adventures till this day is hilarious!
The interview of the local fans in the streets is very strong and candid. MArcell, the fellow who was run over by a car, is a very quotable individual. In DC with "Minor Threat", is classic...especially the Ice Cream shop footage in Georgetown.
A simple documentary about some punks before they became punk legends. It was very rare to see a young Mike Ness with the late Dennis Danell really working on the "Amother State of Mind" the song.
An absolute for the old-school punkers!

Henry Rollins - Shock and Awe Review

Henry Rollins - Shock and Awe
Average Reviews:

This is probably the best Henry Rollins "DVD" I've seen, I actually saw him live on this tour a few weeks after this DVD was filmed, it was one of the best shows I've ever been too, so I already knew most of the material that was on here, but its great to be able to watch it whenever I want. Henry is on top of his game here, the stories are great, the only bad thing is that his live show is about 3 hours long and they cut it down to an hour and a half for the DVD so some of the stories are cut short, like the tour in Afghanistan, and the President Bush, and the William Shatner stories, and some great stories didn't make it on the DVD, but that doesn't really matter, its' still a great DVD, if you are a fan of Henry Rollins then I highly recommend this, if you are just a fan of good amusing stories then I also highly recommend this.
Thats pretty much it, you probably already know what to expect if you've heard Henry's other spoken word material. But I suggest if you ever get a chance to see him live, then do it, it's well worth the 20 bucks.

Henry Rollins has more than ever to rant about in this performance from his recent Shock & Awe Tour, its title irreverently inspired by George Bush's early predictions of the Iraqi War's impact. With all the ferocious energy of his days as a front man for the punk group Black Flag, Rollins scathingly draws observations from his recent USO tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also tears across the American political and cultural landscape and ventures into more personal territory, talking about his eclectic career from music to books to TV and film, sharing his fascinating insights from traveling the world and revealing his hilariously unsuccessful search for love.

PANIC AT THE DISCO Collectors Box Review

PANIC AT THE DISCO Collectors Box

I went to see them in Myrtle Beach at the House of Blues before this was filmed. My family loved it, as did my sister in law and her son. This DVD is an accurate film, and while not up to the level of Talking Heads or The Last Waltz is actually done well rather well and is interesting to watch.
Panic! At The Disco are trying to bring back a little theatre/spectacle to the concert experience and that is captured well on this DVD. I have been to many concerts through the years. While some are nothing more then music playing, some like when I saw ELO on the flying saucer tour (1978, yes I'm old) were really a good time. Bruce Springsteen, who I have seen 4 times is truly great, but is not what you think of as theatre. His Born in the USA tour, outstanding, but not a theatrical experience.
The smallish club setting lends itself to this kind of theatre of the absurd very well. It fits the style of music that P!ATD plays and was very enjoyable. The only difference is the extra song Karma Police cover of the Radiohead song which they did not do when we saw them. They did do the Smashing Pumpkins song. Having the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque troupe with them was additionally fun to watch. The set includes a DVD containing a documentary about the band and a live performance -- both filmed during Panic's July 22 show at the Fillmore Theatre in Denver, and the ephemera includes loads of "early 20th-century burlesque/vaudeville" material, including a cabaret mask, a period-themed newspaper and, most importantly, a phenakistoscope, an animation device that was popular in Belgium and Austria in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
Also included are a 140-page blank diary, lyric cards, a poster, band photos, a tour program and the all-important "certificate of authenticity" stating which this set is limited to 25,000 copies worldwide. All this is in a nicely lined hard-sided box.
The vaudevillian theme of the package is in keeping with the circus feel of the show we saw.
I'm not saying one way or the other that they are going to have staying power. Will anyone know who they are 10 years from now? Who knows? For as young as they are they did put together a great set of songs and the poor review should be taken with a grain of salt. Look at the comments.
If you saw them, get this. If you want to see what the fuss is about, get this or at least find someone with it so you can watch the show.

Okay, first of all, don't make fun of my incredibly cheesy review title, because IT'S FITTING! I have been listening to this band for almost a year now thanks to Pandora and I have not yet heard one song come out of this band that wasn't absolutely and ridiculously awesome :D This album's levels of amazingness shine through several angles, I mean how could it not, it was produced by Chad from NFG and the almighty Adam of Killswitch! I could honestly sit here and go on and on about how great they are, but I just want to tell you, this album is worth listening to from start to finish, and then put it all on repeat a couple times, then several more (yea, it's that good!)

2009 sophomore release, one of Alternative Press' Most Anticipated Albums of 2009. Two short years since their debut release, A Day To Remember has exploded from a small band with a dedicated fan-base in Florida into a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the insane live shows and Pop-Hardcore they have lovingly made their own. Gaining the respect of their peers as much as their fans, they landed slots on the New Found Glory and Silverstein tours, the Victory Records Tour and the Vans Warped Tour. In 2009, ADTR are taking their insanely catchy melodies and brutal breakdowns with the positive message of friendship and unfaltering self-belief to the masses. With a full US and international tour lined up in support of Homesick, A Day To Remember truly are ready to take over the world one mosh pit at a time.

This is a great compilation that has two compilations worth of material. It has established bands on major labels and established indie bands. There are also has some upstarts as well. You get all of this for $6? HMMMMMM, that's a really good deal. Also, it has a suicide prevention book contained on the enhanced portion of the first CD. So, it's invaluable in another way. I don't care for the low yelling and drudge-like music which fills the beginning and end of the first CD, but I really enjoyed the rest. Avenged Sevenfold is an amazing band that should be talked about among bands like Metallica and Systen of a Down because they're that skilled and are reminiscent sonically. Don't be frightened away by the punk label because it really is all-inclusive, there are some emo bands on here, slowcore even. This compilation really mixes up styles. Hopefully, you'll pick it up.

I have known Chris and Mike since they played in Mr. Crispy back in our high school days. I have been fortunate enough to watch two AAR concerts from on stage with them and this DVD is even more up close and personal than those experiences were. The quality of the video, sound, and editing are fantastic.

Right. So I buy a british copy of this album, get all exited by it 'cus it so damn cool, go to Amazon.com to write a review, and find out that the American version has different tracks - and more bands in total to boot. All I can say is that the songs I do have on my album are some of the best punk songs around - going from the classic-rock flavored Donnas to the heavier sounds of Beatsteaks to the awsome power of the ska band Voodoo Glow Skulls. If you think that 'caus a band isn't screaming out at the top of their lungs, they're too commercial, don't get this album. But if you prefer actual rock, with incredible guitar playing and down to earth lyrics, buy it. Buy it now.

World Warped 3 Live Review

World Warped 3 Live

This CD is great, and is a must have for any punker. Although it's called World Warped III and contains bands that were on the warped tour in recent years, none of the shows on this disc are recorded from warped tour, most are from clubs and various other shows. Most of the recordings are terrific quality, while others like NOFX appears to be recorded from a bootleg.
If you like Dropkick Murphy's, the first track contains "Barroom Hero" live, with Al Barr singing, it's the best version of this song I've ever heard because the crowd sings along and it's cool to hear Al Barr singing the song, he does a great job.

Well this cd is a great addition to your Sum 41 collection. The cd is great. Deryck says some funny things during some of the songs! It's really funny! It has all the best Sum 41 songs, and you'll never get tired of it. It has a couple songs from all of the cds. That's pretty much it, it sounds different hearing them live, but it's a good different. This is definitely worth the money, you'll won't get tired of this cd!

The Casualties: Can't Stop Us Review

The Casualties: Can't Stop Us
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Good
Can't Stop Us is more of a documentary than is a concert video. The first half of the DVD focuses on the punk group's tour in Mexico. This section is padded heavily with behind-the-scenes material. In between that you do get some live performances, but most are not presented to completion of the song. It was interesting to see how rabid the fans were for this group. I have never heard of them, but clearly the people of Mexico have. There were two interesting segments that caught my attention.
The first took place in Mexico City. The Casualties were set to play a festival type show with a 2am set time. The set time wasn't the shocking part. The shocking part was when a gang of kids decided that they didn't want to pay to get into the show. All hell broke loose and the show was eventually postponed to the next day. The fear that the band was experiencing was quite genuine. The second incident took place the next day when the show finally went on. A fan was heckling the band when frontman Jorge brought him on stage to find out why.
This guy goes into a rant on how The Casualties are Capitalists for charging $15 dollars for a concert. The guy had a lot of balls, and The casualties showed a lot of restraint. It just goes to show you that everyone doesn't have it as good as the U.S. and other countries. The second half of the DVD highlights a tour through Japan. You can clearly see a difference in culture from the Mexico tour. This portion of the DVD focuses more on the wild and frenzied live performances. It still has its share of interesting tour footage.
The Bad
You can't just go into this blind, you really have to be a fan of the group to enjoy it thoroughly.
The Verdict
It's nice to know that The Casualties are out there keeping the spirit of punk rock alive. On their latest DVD you really do get to see a different side of the music industry. Instead of the typical big production shows you get with concert DVDs, with top-notch lighting, a huge stage, a packed arena, and perfect sound; Can't Stop Us now gives you a taste of old-school, down-and-dirty touring the hard way. I don't think The Casualties would have it any other way.

This 90-minute movie documents their recent tours of Japan and Mexico. Includes insane live performances (over twenty songs) and all the behind-the-scenes mayhem you'd expect.
