This Japanese mini-lp replica version of Clash's best album is simply a work of art! Very beautifully designed with all the lyrics included and with a sound quality remastered to perfection.
This is by far the best version of this album that is out there; great sound quality, great packaging, great songs! A must have in any CD collector's library.

World Warped 3 Live Review

This CD is great, and is a must have for any punker. Although it's called World Warped III and contains bands that were on the warped tour in recent years, none of the shows on this disc are recorded from warped tour, most are from clubs and various other shows. Most of the recordings are terrific quality, while others like NOFX appears to be recorded from a bootleg.
If you like Dropkick Murphy's, the first track contains "Barroom Hero" live, with Al Barr singing, it's the best version of this song I've ever heard because the crowd sings along and it's cool to hear Al Barr singing the song, he does a great job.

The Casualties: Can't Stop Us Review

The Casualties: Can't Stop Us

The Good
Can't Stop Us is more of a documentary than is a concert video. The first half of the DVD focuses on the punk group's tour in Mexico. This section is padded heavily with behind-the-scenes material. In between that you do get some live performances, but most are not presented to completion of the song. It was interesting to see how rabid the fans were for this group. I have never heard of them, but clearly the people of Mexico have. There were two interesting segments that caught my attention.
The first took place in Mexico City. The Casualties were set to play a festival type show with a 2am set time. The set time wasn't the shocking part. The shocking part was when a gang of kids decided that they didn't want to pay to get into the show. All hell broke loose and the show was eventually postponed to the next day. The fear that the band was experiencing was quite genuine. The second incident took place the next day when the show finally went on. A fan was heckling the band when frontman Jorge brought him on stage to find out why.
This guy goes into a rant on how The Casualties are Capitalists for charging $15 dollars for a concert. The guy had a lot of balls, and The casualties showed a lot of restraint. It just goes to show you that everyone doesn't have it as good as the U.S. and other countries. The second half of the DVD highlights a tour through Japan. You can clearly see a difference in culture from the Mexico tour. This portion of the DVD focuses more on the wild and frenzied live performances. It still has its share of interesting tour footage.
The Bad
You can't just go into this blind, you really have to be a fan of the group to enjoy it thoroughly.
The Verdict
It's nice to know that The Casualties are out there keeping the spirit of punk rock alive. On their latest DVD you really do get to see a different side of the music industry. Instead of the typical big production shows you get with concert DVDs, with top-notch lighting, a huge stage, a packed arena, and perfect sound; Can't Stop Us now gives you a taste of old-school, down-and-dirty touring the hard way. I don't think The Casualties would have it any other way.

Insomniac Tour Pack Review

Insomniac Tour Pack

Simple. Juvenile. Immature. Yep, that's the essence of Green Day. It can be a good thing though - being a grownup all the time isn't good for you, and punk is nothing if not a celebration of everything bratty and angry. For all the criticism it invites, Insomniac nevertheless succeeds very well at what it does, more so (in my opinion) than its breakthrough predecessor Dookie. It may be impossible to be objective but even now, years onward from the time I practically wore the disc out as a depressed high-schooler, I have to say it stands up remarkably well. It's energetic, it's bouncy, it's mindless, it flows effortlessly, it's got the same kind of fluffy sing-along quality that AC/DC elevated to an art form. (Sort of. Maybe. Well what would you call it?)
The music is mostly as basic as it gets; people usually need some simple basic fiber in their diets among the more fancy stuff, and Green Day did manage to do more with three chords than anyone since the Ramones. But there's a little extra here - the tight instrumental opening section of "Panic Song," the chunky minor groove of "Geek Stink Breath," the sinister plodding "Brain Stew," the subtle-but-impressive bass work behind "Stuart and the Ave." It's nothing that'll blow anyone's mind, but it adds enough flavoring that the whole thing avoids being a string of similar riffs throughout. (For more variety, try Nimrod.)
The band has moved on to other things since, even currently having a punk-rock opera in the works - I guess everyone has to grow up sometime - but Insomniac remains the highlight of the catalogue for me. Even when it can also make you want to break some furniture. No.. *especially* then.

this cd is worth buying for anyone who likes punk or rock. the only disappointment about this cd is that another drive thru band, called finch (maybe youve heard of them ;) ) isnt on it. but all the tracks are amazing. the live version of best of me by the starting line is amazing, as well as "kiss me diss me" by home grown and "overrated" by allister. every track on the cd is one to look forward to, and although the acoustic version of "head on collision" by nfg isnt as good as the real version, id still give it 5 stars! rock on drive thru records!

Bullet In A Bible (CD/DVD) Review

Bullet In A Bible (CD/DVD)

You had to figure that Green Day couldn't let their biggest year, 2005, pass by without some sort of celebration. Their great come-back album, 2004's "American Idiot" was not only massively successful and dominant over the radio, but was easily the most interesting and inspiring piece of music to come out of that year as well. So, in comes "Bullet In A Bible," a DVD/CD set that covers Green Day's biggest show to date, a two-day concert at the National Bowl in Milton Keynes where they played to over 130,000 English fans.
The concert/documentary runs at about two-hours long, and spliced in between each song are interviews and behind the scenes footage that document Green Day's rise back to the top and the nervousness that comes with playing to such a large crowd. As far as the performance, the boys are on top of their game. I saw them back in April, and let me tell you: it was the best concert I have ever been to, and I have a hard time imagining any concert I go to in the future being that good. They play roughly the same set that they did for the U.S. "American Idiot" tour, with a few differences. One noticeable omission is their popular cover of Queen's "We Are The Champions." "She," "Maria" and "Knowledge," the song where they bring fans onstage to play, are also missing as well. But what is here is superb. The band blows through nearly the first half of the "American Idiot" album, saving "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" for the encore, and then gets into some choice older material such as "Longview" and "Minority." "King For A Day" is fused with a cover of "Shout," which is just brilliant (although Billie skips the floor-humping here that he did for us). The final song, "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" has Billie Joe going solo with an electric guitar and freshening up a song that got played to death in it's day. It was worth buying this set just to have that version on the audio-CD that is included.
My only gripe with this performance/documentary is Samuel Bayer's direction. I love his videos, especially all he's done for Green Day, but he overdoes it with his direction for the concert. The cameras dart around way to fast, and he inserts so many unneccessary and distracting effects. He complicates something that should have been fairly simple and straight-forward: letting the viewer watch one of the best acts of our generation. But the fact remains, this is Green Day at their best. This concert is a monster, and they pack so much energy into each song, it's hard not to be moved. I was a little disappointed that more "American Idiot" stuff (i.e. Music videos, making-of) wasn't included, but I'm sure that stuff'll surface one day.

From two performances filmed in June 2005 before 65,000 fans, both in Milton Keynes in England, to the DVD's documentary segments following the band members around that city as they visit a war museum and various pubs, and share in-depth insights on the making and meaning of American Idiot, Green Day is #1 with a Bullet in a Bible. Flogging Molly is the band that got me interested in punk. I wasn't really into it, and my friend was having me listen to a Warped Tour Cd that had "What's Left of the Flag" on it. After I heard that I made him play it again I think 10 or 11 times. I instantly went out and bought this album, and eventually got all three albums and went to a live concert. If you ever get a chance to, these guys are a must live. Best Concert I have ever been to. This album is my personal favorite, and almost every song is fantastic, it's an album that you have no need to push "shuffle" on, just sit back and listen. That is, if you can sit still, it's almost impossible. The music just makes you want to grab a Guiness and pick a fight. If you have an open mind, or enjoy punk or celtic music, this is a must. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!!

This is the second album from the Los Angeles based octet, Flogging Molly. Taking influence from their Irish roots and the sound of the Californian punk scene, 'Drunken Lullabies'is a mix of brash punk rock guitars, violins, whistles and accordians. The band are often compared to the Pogues and fellow punk band, The Dropkick Murphys.

New York Dolls - All Dolled Up (1970) Review

New York Dolls - All Dolled Up (1970)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was going to give this DVD four stars; then I reevaluated it in the context of what it represents technologically and sociologically, and I had to give it five.
It's 1973-74. You have a band playing '50s rock and '60s girl-group music, sloppily and more distorted, but with obvious reverence; a band that wanted to put good times and visual appeal back into rock 'n' roll. You have a good photographer who happens to be in the right place at the right time (as good photographers often are), but now he's armed with space-age technology in the form of a portable videotape recorder.
Bob Gruen and his wife Nadya obviously had a knack for videography. Their earliest concert footage serves mainly as a historical document (and certainly not "art"), but as the DVD progresses (chronologically), they begin to explore the capabilities of the new video medium as the camera follows the band backstage, onto an airplane, into a restaurant, inside Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco (!), etc. One startling backstage sequence features the doll seen poking out of Jerry Nolan's kick drum on the cover of Too Much Too Soon. Here, the sinister doll rests on Johnny Thunders' knee in the extreme foreground of the frame as Johnny and Sable Starr chat at what due to foreshortening appears to be a distance of ten feet away. There are numerous other "photographer's tricks" employed to keep the all-black-and-white footage interesting. Since much of the "action" is fairly tame offstage hijinx and chatter, one would assume Gruen has done us a big favor by editing the 40 hours down to 95 minutes for the "documentary" segment.
The song performances -- presented whole on the "extras" portion of the disc -- are charmingly ramshackle, as one would expect. The mono audio is surprisingly good (by 1973 standards). It's great to see a band with modest talent and a huge visual "gimmick" confidently exploiting what they know to be their greatest asset: well-written basic rock songs. One comes away from this DVD entirely convinced that the Dolls all fell in love with rock 'n' roll at early ages, and were dedicated students, amateur rock historians, and big fans as much as they were performers. Sylvain's completely unpretentious audio commentary drives this point further home, even including references to specific guitars and how they were obtained. JoHansen comes off as more jaded in his commentary track; it's worth noting that he's conspicuously silent when viewing footage of himself being particularly annoying.
A brief interview with Gruen conducted by Handsome Dick Manitoba of the Dictators covers the same ground as Gruen's liner notes to the 16-page color booklet included, then delves deeper into the subject of drug abuse and the general decline of Thunders, Nolan and Kane (without becoming maudlin). Billy Murcia is mentioned only in passing; his own passing predates Gruen's acquisition of the video camera.
Finally, Gruen narrates a slideshow of what must be nearly 100 excellent Dolls photos, some familiar, many not, including a barely-swimwear-clad JoHansen relaxing poolside in Los Angeles (with Lisa Robinson's toes visible in the foreground) and another "welcome to L.A." shot of the Dolls crammed onto a hotel bed with Iggy Pop, Kim Fowley, a very young Shaun Cassidy (!), and various hangers-on.
Some of Gruen's b/w video footage had found its way onto bootleg VHS years ago, but the poor quality of the boot made it almost frustrating to view. Here all is put right, and at the price you can't go wrong. This isn't just a New York Dolls video; it, like Dogtown & Z-Boys, captures the essence of the '70s the way I prefer to remember them, and brings that spirit into the new millennium with no loss of fidelity. It is as "1974" as Ashley Whippet catching a Frisbee in center field, yet as fresh as an egg cream from Gem Spa. (It's still there, and they still sell 'em.)

I have been going to warped tour since 2005 and it is quite the experience. There is so much going on, so many wonderful people, games, contests, bands, performances, etc. etc. This DVD limits itself to a select few performances as well as interviews and some limited tour bus/backstage stuff with the bands. I feel that warped is such a huge yearly event for so many people that SOMEONE could have captured the entirety of the event more successfully. The live performances are WONDERFUL: Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed & Cambria, Bad Religion, Chiodos, each of them drawing me back into the wonderful day two years back. The DVD just let me wanting A LOT MORE and not in a good way. I've noticed that all these spectacular festivals come and go each year and we end up watching YOUTUBE videos of the them instead of getting a dvd or double dvd of each years festival....weak.

B Side Oblivion Review

B Side Oblivion
Average Reviews:

A lot of powerpop bands come off tinny. Not this one. A thick slab of sound issues from Three Hour Tour's three releases (of which B-Side is the most recent) and much of the music quickly acquires an agreeable density. (Think of bands like Myracle Brah in its prime and Fuzzbubble.) Some of the 11 songs here bear that weight well. "I Wanted You Around," "A Lady Named Caroline," the title cut and crunching closer "What Made You Change" all carry a nice punch and I've played them over and over again ... but individually.
Why individually? Well, this big-sound approach has limits. It makes the songs seem longer than they are and a bit too much alike. Taken as a whole, I was kind of tired of the CD by the time it ended. But in smaller chunks, it's good hard-pop (as is Valentine's Day on 1969 and Home Again on Remix). Give it a test drive and I think you'll agree.

Easily the best Warped Tour DVD out there and I've seen them all. I've gone to Warped since '98 and this totally makes you feel like you're there all over again. I love the rare footage and the more recent bands, and it has a great story. It's fun to watch. I've seen some of the other Warped stuff that's out there and was totally disappointed. This one's different and I highly recommend it.

Warped Tour: Warped 15th Anniversary Celebration (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This DVD consists of footage shot at the 15th anniversary party that followed the end of the 15th Warped Tour. It was an indoor concert with a small crowd. It lacked a lot of energy and fun of the outdoor tour.
Each band is interviewed for a few minutes about the tour and how it affected their band. Then you get to see one live song from the band - except for blink-182. Blink-182 is listed in the movie, but they don't get interviewed or perform, they just play their music video for "Rock Show" when it gets to their turn. At the end, all the bands come on stage to sing "Bro Hymn" from Pennywise.
Overall, I enjoyed it but a lot of the bands that were featured aren't that great. I was really hoping to see more songs from my favorite bands. The sound quality was excellent since this event was created with the intent of filming it. I was hoping for something a little more raw and noisy that captured the tour. Overall though, it wasn't a bad purchase.
