I was truly pleasantly surprised and would highly reccommend it even if it
is your first time buying Latin Pop. She has a beautiful distinctive voice and
musicians with a lot of heart and soul to accompany her.
A must have for your collection.

On March 6th, Julieta Venegas recorded her MTV Unplugged at the Churubusco Studies in Mexico City, where she presented new songs besides interpreting some of her greatest hits in an intimate atmosphere to a live audience. This production counts on important and interesting collaborations like two time Oscar winner, Gustavo Santaolalla, who accompanied her with the banjo and sang the chorus of the song "Algun Dia (Someday)". Brazilian singer, Marisa Monte featured in song "Illusion", a new and beautiful song that combines the Spanish and Portuguese language. Also Mala Rodriguez joined Julieta and included a strong hip hop movement to the song "Eres Para Mi (You are for Me)", whereas the vocalist of Porter, Juan Carlos had a unique participation in "Algun Dia (Someday)". In addition, the very talented Natalia Lafourcade comprised of the orchestra and played several instruments during the night, whereas the talented musician and composer, Jacques Morelenbaum accompanied Julieta on the cello in "De mis Pasos (From my foot steps)".

(More customer reviews)I edited this concert DVD for the Newsboys. I spent around 300 hours selecting shots and finessing edits. I LOVE IT! I have watched it from start to finish more times then I can remember and it still excites me and touches my spirit. It is a wonderfully entertaining and engaging PARTY!
PS Other than the company I work for being hired to produce this video, I am not connected to the Newsboys. I get nothing for writing this review. I did get to meet Peter Furler and he is very genuine. Buy this DVD/CD and you will be so glad you did.
*While Phil Joel is definitely missed, this is still a wonderful concert. Phil is such an iconic member of the Newsboys history. I am sure that he is a very difficult person to replace. I personally think that Paul Colman is a wonderful addition. No, he isn't SRV, but he is a very competent guitar player and adds very good vocals. While there is some overdubbing going on, it was done to enhance the quality of the performance. The majority of what you hear is a live performance. All of the different vocals and instruments were captured separately so that they could perform the kind of mix and EQ work that just can't be done live. Just like the shooting of the video. We captured all of the cameras separately and chose which ones would be viewed after the fact.

Live 2003 (CD & DVD) Review

Only 2 proper albums into their career, and already we receive a (sorta) greatest hits live album from Coldplay. The CD (12 tracks, 67 min.) covers familiar ground for anyone that saw Coldplay on the "Rush of Blood" 2002-2003 world tour, opening of course with the high energy "Politik". "See You Soon" (originally on "The Blue Room EP", the outstanding 1999 EP--still available, including from Amazon) is one of the highlights. "Shiver" is another, and reminds me why I like "Parachutes" so much better than "Rush of Blood". "Moses" is the only true new song on here, quite good actually. And of course the "hits" "In My Place", "Yellow" and "Clocks" are here.
In all, not a bad collection, but nothing that made me sit up and take notice. Unlike, say, the other live Coldplay collection "Trouble: Norwegian Live", a 5 song EP from a December 2000 show (still available, including here on Amazon), where Chris Martin works the Oslo crowd into a frenzy. Compare "Everything's Not Lost" on this EP against the "Live 2003" version and you'll see what I mean.
The DVD is quite nice, though. For one, it adds 5 more songs including three "hits" ("Don't Panic", "Trouble" and "The Scientist"), inexplicably left off of the CD version (which at 67 min. could have easily added them), and the show closer "Life is for Living". The tour diary is goofy fun but inconsequential. For Coldplay completists only.

The two-disc set includes a 90-minute, nine-camera, super 16 live shoot taken from their July 21 and 22, 2003 performances at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, as well as band commentary, a never before broadcast behind-the-scenes documentary, a special tour diary and the edited audio CD. The DVD and CD will also include two PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED live tracks- "The One I Love" and "Moses."

Somewhere in London (2008) Review

Marillion have changed quite a bit from the early 80's. Some fans jumped ship as Steve Hogarth replaced the departed Fish. I like the vibe of both versions of Marillion. To be honest,I could not imagine the Fish-fronted Marillion in 2008 - so both Fish and Marillion gained from the separation. So what's Marillion's music like in 2008? Genuine, adventurous, atmospheric, intelligent rock music with touches of everything else. Actually, it's quite difficult to describe Marillion - but the closest you can get is a combination of Radiohead and Coldplay, still better.
Starting with 'Anoraknophobia' in 2001, the band finally started to spark again following two disappointing albums. 'Marbles' released in 2004, is a masterpiece - the songs 'The invisible man,' 'Neverland' and 'Angelina' to name but a few, are real gems. 'Somewhere else' released in 2007 got mixed reactions - there were quite a few gems but some obvious filler as well. (It was difficult to follow up 'Marbles')
So when the band released this dvd from the 'Somewhere else' tour, I approached it with caution. Actually, it turned out to be the best dvd I saw for a long time. The 'Somewhere else' tracks are much better live that the studio versions, and the performances are, to say the least, haunting. Musicianship is first class and Steve Hogarth is one of the most magnetic, still down-to-earth frontmen ever. There are also various tracks from previous albums, but only one from the Fish era. This should not be considered a minus, since the included tracks are all 5 star material. The bonus material is quite interesting with various performances from other concerts from the same tour.
I have been following the rock scene since the late 1980's, listening to 100's of acts. I still can't believe that Marillion is still snubbed by certain critics. They deserve recognition and to fill 80,000 capacity venues anywhere - not because they have been around for 25+ years but because their work deserves it. This dvd proves my point (as does the 'Marbles on the road' dvd - get that as well).

Viva La Vida (2009 Tour Edition) (Incl. Bonus DVD) Review

(More customer reviews)This new edition of Coldplay's masterpiece Viva La Vida features the same 10 songs as the standard version, but it also includes a bonus DVD featuring a half-dozen music videos. The first is Violet Hill, which shows the snow and hills described in the song. The second is Viva La Vida, which won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. The video focuses on the band members but it is also very colorful and creative. Next comes Lost!, which may or may not be a live performance (I can't tell). After Lost! is Lovers In Japan, my favorite song from VLV, which I suppose makes this video my favorite. It shows a variety of images, including the band members writing the lyrics on the screen and at one point the entire video starts spinning 360 degrees. The next video is Life In Technicolor II, which is from the Prospekt's March EP. It is a new version of an instrumental, which now has lyrics. The music video for this song presents the band members as marionettes in a library puppet show. The final video on the DVD is Strawberry Swing. This song is perhaps the most imaginative song on VLV, and its music video is even more imaginative. It's hard to describe but it basically shows a superhero. In conclusion, the band probably should have released the DVD in the same package as the Prospekt's March EP so that the fans wouldn't have to spend so much money, but both items are well worth that money. Thus, I highly recommend this new edition of Coldplay's Viva La Vida.
