(More customer reviews)All those other so called "Divas" out there like Jennifer "J-Lo" Lopez, Mariah "Heartbreaker" Carey, Whitney Houston, Janet, "Ms. Jackson if you're nasty" Jackson, and the three ladies from Destiny's Child had better stand to the side when The Acid Queen enters the room. All of the above mentioned artists and this includes Britney and Christina need to purchase this DVD, and let Tina show them how its done. Tina is the very definition of Diva, and only Patti Labelle, or Aretha Franklin could nearly keep up with her. Tina is the sexiest woman alive. She has the legs of an Olympic gymnast, and oozes sensuality just standing there. But when she breathlessly belts out "Private Dancer" with that sexy sax, she is absolutley everything, erotic, sensual, sexual, gorgeous, and boy does she hold that Rio crowd of 180,000 in the palm of her hand. No one on that stage could possibly keep up with her energy level on that HOT night in Rio. Tina sings her behind off, and leaves everything on that stage. Watch for the festival dancers onstage during "Typical Male" No one can do it like Tina, and Ike Turner must cringe evertime he realizes that he is nothing but a second rate guitarist, while Tina is an international superstar. Viva Tina!!!

(More customer reviews)This is,in my opnion, the best Tina concert video every. The concert was filmed in 1990 as part of the Foriegn Affair World Tour which broke record all over the world. The tour played to more than 3 million people and did 120 shows. Tina is absolutly amazing in this video. She gives out 16 great numbers with the help of her band, dancers, 3 costume changes, a suspended crane that goes 100 feet into the audience, and tons of fireworks and pirotechnics. And dont forget the huge 30 step stair case. The setlist includes Steamy Windows, Typical Male, Foriegn Affair, Undercover Agent For the Blues, Ask Me How I Feel, We Dont Need Another Hero, Private Dancer, Nutbush City Limits, Addiceted To Love, The Best, I Dont Wanna Lose You, Whats Love Got To Do With It, Lets Stay Together, Proud Mary, Better Be Good, and finishes with Be Tender. The only flaw in this video is that they didnt show the whole concert. The cut out Show Some Respect, I Cant Stand The Rain, and River Deep Mountain High. This concert was filmed at the Barcelona Stadium and was performed infront of 70,000 fans. GO TINA!

Tina Turner is a legend in music and everybody thinks that her 1984 hit album "Private dancer" it's her best because of the several Top 10 hits, the bunch of Grammy awards that it won and the almost 20 million copies it sold but "Foreing affair is more than that. Tina is at her very best (I'm not saying that she is not good anymore)I mean her look, she was still with her long hair, her voice, her lyrics and singing were stronger.
"Foreign affair" besides being and album full of strengh and fantastic lyrics and sounds was a very big hit. It sold almost 10 million copies, was nominated for several Grammy awards and has classic hits such as the #1 "The best", and the Top 16 singles "Steamy windows", "Be tender with me baby", "Foreign affair", "I don't wanna lose you" and "Look me in the heart".
This album was produced by Tina and hit singer/producer Tony Joe White who actually wrote some of the songs for the album.
Whether you're a Tina's fan or not you must have this one, really you won't be sorry at all.

(More customer reviews)The legendary Tina Turner's latest studio album is a blend of modern pop music. Theres rock, pop, R&B, all mixed together in this incredible recording. Turners voice sizzles throughout the eleven tracks. Stand out tracks is the #3 dance hit "when the heartache is over", also the uptempo ballad "whatever you need" and the declaring "all the woman" also of note are the thunderuos "without you" which features a cameo by Bryan Adams, and "twenty four seven" which is a great fun rock number in which Tina does best. over all this is simply one of her best albums, i think its just as good as "private dancer" there really isn't a bad song on the album, her longtime fans will be pleased, and her new followers will simply enjoy. Whats amazing is after over fourty years every fresh Tina Turner project is simply the best. Do yourself a favor purchase this incredible album.

(More customer reviews)The whole idea of DVD's is their capacity to accommodate more material. But this DVD is no different to the VHS release although it does have 5.1 surround sound as well as the traditional dolby digital 2.0.
Firstly, do not expect any special features, this is a bare bones release.
The track listing is acceptable, yet fails in some ways. As many reviewers have stated, several of the videos have been replaced with concert footage (a big 'no no' for a video collection). What's annoying to me is, the songs that have been replaced are personal favourites so I am a bit cheesed off.
Let's run through them:
We Don't Need Another Hero - a 1985 video does exist out there, but we get a lacklustre concert performance instead with Tina screaming rather than singing.
Typical Male - do you remember the excellent video for this? Well it aint included on the DVD. We get a concert performance again.
I Can't Stand the Rain - concert footage again. Perhaps a video was not made for this song.
It basically means that someone at EMI liked the concert footage more than the videos and decided we would all agree with him/her. Not so.
There is other concert footage on the DVD but it's okay because that was the way it was originally filmed (eg. Tina's live cover of "Addicted to Love").
One obvious ommission is "One of the Living", the second single from the "Mad Max 3" soundtrack. Perhaps copyright reasons prevented the use of this track.
Also missing are videos from the 1970's including "River Deep Mountain High" or "Proud Memory". I assume this is because the DVD focus on the 1980's (why not say so on the cover?). Still, the DVD could have been updated to include hits from the 90's - one can assume that a Volume 2 DVD must be in the works.
One inclusion that is a good selling point is the alternative video version of "What's Love Got to Do with It" (which was scrapped), as well as the version that got used worldwide.
Overall Summary:
An acceptable DVD which has been given a nice 5.1 surround sound remix. Picture quality varies throughout. Menus are nothing special. A DVD for fans in general, but die-hard fans will be somewhat disappointed.

(More customer reviews)LOVE TRAIN easily trumps Sony Legacy's previously released three-cd Philly box set (1997's excellent THE PHILLY SOUND: KENNY GAMBLE, LEON HUFF & THE STORY OF BROTHERLY LOVE)by offering 23 more songs and expanding the years of the material up to 1983. Unlike the 1997 box set, the works of producer Thom Bell are represented here along with the best of the Gamble and Huff productions. One big surprise entry is Deniece Williams' top-10 remake of the Royaltones "It's Gonna Take A Miracle", which was produced by Thom Bell and recorded in Philly. The set ends perfectly with Patti Labelle's #1 r&b hit "If Only You Knew", the last big hurrah of the Philly sound. It would have been nice to include the 1973 Thom Bell-produced top 30 pop hits "One Man Band" by Ronnie Dyson and "I'm Doing Fine Now" by New York City, however.
Improved song selection, detailed booklet and great remastered sound make this collection a must for Philly soul fans.

(More customer reviews)I'm a big fan of Tina Turner and besides having her cd's I also have some of her live videos. And if you haven't seen Tina on stage, I have to tell you that you're missing an electrifying experience.
After touring for 4 years with sold out shows. Tina released this production in 1988 after the impact of "Private dancer" and her 1986 hit album "Break every rule".
"Tina live in Europe" cointains her biggest hits live as a solo singer (without Ike) and it also contains duets with: David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Bryan Adams and Robert Gray. There's a section on cd2 where Tina sings old classics such as "A change is gonna come" and "Midnight hour".
Tina delivers her best in songs like: "Help", "Let's stay together", "Two people", "A change is gonna come" and other ballads. But she also rocks with songs like: "Show some respect", "Proud Mary", "Typical male", "Addicted to love" (a classic on Tina's concerts) and "Better be good to me".
Tina's tour was worldwide but besides her incredible success of "Private dancer". In 1986 and 1987 Tina had an amazing hit in Europe with her "Break every rule" album and because of that an her early solo years. Tina felt that Europe was always there for her and this cd was a gift for her European fans.
This album won a Grammy in 1989 and sold millions in Europe and Asia, but in the U.S it only reached #88 in the Hot 200.
Part of this tour was her Guiness Records record of 1988 when she sang in Rio in front of 182,000 people at the Maracana stadium.

(More customer reviews)At a time when REAL Soul Music appeared to be going into decline, Frankie Beverly and Maze released this wonderful CD which was very well received. By itself, the gorgeous "Can't Get Over You" justifies buying the CD but there are other great songs here as well. Frankie Beverly is most certainly one of the greatest Soul singers of our time--but he is also criminally underrated. A classic CD to enjoy time and again (nearly 20 years after its original release it still sounds great!).

(More customer reviews)1995's "Natural Wonder" captures the raw energy, unbrideled passion and undeniable excitement it feels to be at a Stevie Wonder concert. This is something few artists can do at their concerts. Stevie Wonder is one of those few. On this two disc collection (culled from his 1995 "Conversation Peace" tour), wonder performs 24 classic songs with all the skill and soul you'd expect from Stevie.
Stevie truly pours his heart into his songs. Just listen to the passion he puts into songs like "Love's In Need Of Love Today", "Stay Gold", "If It's Magic" "Ms. And Mr. Little Ones" (a new song when it was released and a personal favorite) and "Overjoyed". And naturally, Stevie isn't afraid to have a little fun, funking it up on "Sign Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours", "Sir Duke" and "I Wish", as well as transforming the tender ballad "Ribbon In The Sky" into an almost nine minute jazzy jam.
I was also glad that Stevie decided to revive several lesser knowns gems such as "Pastime Paradise", "Another Star", "Village Ghetto Land" and "Rocket Love". These songs stand well against concert warhorses such as "Higher Ground" and "Superstition".
My only gripe is basically the one another reviewer said, and that's that several songs ("Master Blaster (Jammin')", "Living For The City", "Another Star") were a lot shorter than the original versions. Usually when you go to a concert, you expect the songs to be longer than the studio versions. But I won't fault the entire album because of that. Also, I noticed the list of songs that reviewer would have liked seen on this album is the same as mine. But again, I won't fault the entire album for these minor complaints.
This is an album that I think everyone should own. Also worth picking up is "At The Close Of The Century" and all of Stevie's studio albums, which are among the greatest albums of all time.

Soul to Soul (DVD with Soundtrack CD) (1971) Review

(More customer reviews)I have to say this was a great show to watch; The intro was a great attention getter. I mean, if you're an Ike & Tina fan, like I am, then you got to get this video/DVD. Watching Tina & the Ikettes dancing from this 1971 film makes it clear to me where a lot of today's artisit get the desire to dance in front audiences, at least got it indirectly. Hip shaken and everything--did TV even show those kind of moves back then? Well with the exception of James Brown of course. And as most Ike & Tina fans know, there isn't that much legit footage of their performances. So this is worth getting for Ike & Tina viewing only. I was kind of disappointed that Santana wasn't shown much; although their performance of Black Magic Women was great. THe guiter sounds and intensity, it was great. I liked watching the energy of the Voices of East Harlem. I never even heard of them before watching the DVD. The young singer on that DVD was like another MIchael Jackson of that day. This kid was even doing the moon walk way before Michael. For the DVD, the commetary was good. You get to hear Ike Turner speaking w/ Les McCann about where his ideas fit in for his reveue, interesting. One thing to note, is that the Guanians (?) new who Wilson Pickett was; it's like they only came to see him, and no one else. The last performance of the film shows Picket singing land Of 1000 dances--wow! I mean the audiance went crazy. Watching them dance gets you energized. They start flying over the stage--mosh pit, I think. It's like everything done today by muscians really isn't something just invented, it's been around for years. You can also tell by the African dancers. Man, they really had it--I mean it's just soul, and they show it.

Dreams To Remember: The Legacy of Otis Redding (2007) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a DVD documetnary on a truly great artist done ABSOLUTELY RIGHT and as Otis would say in "Hard to Handle"-yessiram!
Unlike most docuemtaries of musicians, these guys undertsand that this is the DVD age where they are not limited by time for commercials so they put the films of Otis' sngs IN THEIR ENTIRETY balancing this with enough interview footage from those who really know him (no second-guessing talking head academics here). These combine to make this DVD a TEN-star winner.
Surprisingly, no footage from Otis' classic 1966 appearance on the British TV show Ready Steady Go (which occasionally appeared on American Cable TV in the late 80s and was available on VHS for a brief spell) is included, but as magnificent as that was, it's hardly missed here since what we have is so excellent and The Big-O's likeable charisma shines through on even the lip-synchs. The songs from "The!!!Beat" (1966) in color, especially a rarely heard tune called "Don't Mess With Cupid" is loads of fun with our man dancing with some really sumptious soul sisters (hard to believe these women are probably now in their sixties!).
The promotional clip of "Tramp" (minus Carla Thomas on film) is quite a hoot! Otis makes fun of his country image by bumbling around his farm in Macon with overalls and riding bareback on a donkey (that actually moves in time to the song). Then we see our hero transformed with a green suit to match the dollar bills that fall from his pockets (eerily, he also poses with the very plane that he lost his life in)! I recall one book saying that there is a lost TV clip of Otis and Carla doing a "Black honeymooners" routine to this song. That would be interesting to see.
The last two clips of our humble hero performing "Try a Little tenderness" and "Respect" in Cleveland n the day before his death with the original Bar Kays (who also died on that plane crash). These guys really did perform as if it's their last day on earth and Otis' interjection of Areath Franklin's version of his famous tune will knock you out of your seat!
The Redding Family, musicians Steve Cropper and Wayne Jackson, as well as Stax head honcho Jim Stewart make clear their affection for our man and what made him so special. After you see this wonderful DVD, you too will undertstand. Support DVD's like this to get more domestic bootleg-free classic R&B on DVD.

(More customer reviews)Both of these concerts serve as amazing recent chapters in the long, impressive performance history of Tina Turner. The voice, the legs and the energy have not yet seemed to wither! The Amsterdam concert is a little more slickly edited in that "music video style," but the songs are great! Tina really rocks (most notably during her heavy metal version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," and the climactic "Nutbush City Limits.") The second great concert at Wembley seems more fashioned as a theatrical performance - with Tina taking a seat onstage for the first time that I can remember! She sizzles during her seated low-key version of "Steamy Windows," but also cranks it up for the famous "Proud Mary" hair flip dance number! This is a great opportunity to have both of these great concerts TOGETHER! Now how about releasing a COMPLETE Tina Turner music video (video, not live performance) anthology on DVD??? Like the song says, Tina is simply "The Best!"

(More customer reviews)I must confess, Luther's last CD "Dance With My Father" was the first time I did not rush out and buy it. I own everything else!! I bought this CD hoping to relive the magic of Luther's concert and like others, hoping that I will be able to see him perform live again.
I was not disappointed. If you are a Luther fan, this CD is a must!!! If you never have seen a concert, here is an inexpensive way to get a taste of what you hear. Luther has been my favorite vocalist since the early 80s and this CD rekindled all these years oflistening to his vocal art. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!

(More customer reviews)I could never be an artist, I simply don't have the temper for it. As an example, I spent the last 10 minutes sitting here at 1 in the morning, the steady melodic thumping of this very album coursing through the background with my head in my hand, nodding back and forth in disbelief, and frustration with some of the negative reviews of this album.
I wanted to lash out, to say bad things about those that disparaged this masterpiece. But I'll abstain. I guess I had to come to the conclusion that music is a very personal thing; certain rhythms, styles, and lyrical content have natural appeal to some, not others. Speaking nothing of the memories associated with certain albums. Ahhhh, when I think about the summer of 2000, D'angelo brought his soulful delicious voice to most every passion drenched night. Sorry, I could ramble on forever about Voodoo's personal meaning to me. But for everyone else...trust that this album is objectively beautiful. There is a seductive cadence in his rhythm, and delicious instramental accompaniments that is unique to him.
There isn't a song I don't really love on this album, although I think he's at his best when moving at a slower pace, it amplifies the sultry, nonchalant, almost "half here, half gone" style he's such a deliberate master of.
I hope this in some way prompts you to consider buying this album, it's just priceless!!!
