(More customer reviews)After watching the video of Gloria's Evolution Tour, I expected something similar with the Atlantis concert. This video is different from every other live concert recorded by Gloria. It offers new songs from the album Alma Caribena, with Celia Cruz and Jose Feliciano as guests. Songs (5) of Alma Caribena played here sounded pretty identical to the record, which was boring sometimes, as I was looking for something new, a different sound.
Two thumbs up for the new versions of "Conga/1-2-3/... (medley)", "coming out of the dark" and "turn the beat around/Higher...(medley)". Percussion was spectacular.
I didn't like the edition of the video...It doesn't show a concise sequence between songs. It's like watching "the best of Atlantis" instead of a whole concert. Personally, I don't like that. Audio is OK.
My suggestion: get the evolution tour, and wait for the next video.

Another Gloria concert for the collection. This one is beautiful.
Great stage, tons of musicians and a great campy Miami finale, which I loved.
If you want to see a great concert DVD then this is for you. With a few songs from her new album and a lots from her back catalogue, it all adds up to a great show and one you will remember always.
Highly recommended. Enjoy

(More customer reviews)Wow! This CD has some of the greatest songs I've ever heard! "Live For Loving You" is probably one of my favorite songs, and it is here on this CD. Very good music to dance to! "Mama Yo Can't Go" is also another good one. "Desde La Oscuridad" the Spanish version of "Coming Out of the Dark" is a very catchy tune. I was singing it for days! Get this CD!

(More customer reviews)CUTS BOTH WAYS is the very best of Gloria's albums. She was at the very top of her singing and writing abilities when she made this one. Every single song is excellent. The ballads are just sweet and beautiful. The few dance music songs have a latin flavor and are just plain fun.
Her work since this album has been hit and miss. This is the best!

(More customer reviews)VH1 had decided to put together a benefit concert that was to help raise the money for the Save The Music Foundation. In 1998, they had their first charity concert entitled, "VH1 Divas Live '98". They have chosen five female solo acts to perform in this concert. Those five women are: Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Aretha Franklin, Shania Twain, & Mariah Carey. Carole King was also invited to this concert, but only as a guest diva. These five women helped redefine the meaning of listening to music and it is all defined right here.
Mariah Carey is the first two perform. She comes out, wearing a beautiful white sparkling gown, and performs, "My All". Just as the song nears the end, the song goes into a dance remix, where Mariah closes out the song. After "My All", Mariah then sings, "Make it Happen", a song that she had written about how she made it to where she is now.
Gloria Estefan then takes the stage, wearing a longer silver gown. Gloria sings "Heaven's What I Feel", the first single off her 1998 dance-fused album, "Gloria". After "Heaven's What I Feel", Gloria then sings, "Turn The Beat Around". After those two brilliant songs, Gloria performs an awesome Megamix Medley. The medley consists of, "Dr. Beat", "Conga", "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "1-2-3", & "Get On Your Feet".
Shania Twain then takes the stage, wearing a black sparkling half-top and black pants. First, Shania sings, "Man! I Feel Like A Woman". After that, she sits on a stool and, while playing an acoustic guitar, sings, "You're Still The One".
Aretha Franklin then takes the stage to perform, wearing a black party gown. Only, Aretha is not alone. Mariah Carey is with her. The two perform Aretha's hit song, "Chain Of Fools" and they sing it brilliantly.
Celine Dion comes out to the stage, wearing a black suit and black coat. She is joined by Carole King, where they sing Celine Dion's song, "The Reason". Carole King leaves the stage after, "The Reason", where Celine performs, "River Deep, Mountain High", followed by, "My Heart Will Go On".
A piano is wheeled out. Playing the piano is Carole King. Leaning on the side of the piano is Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, & Shania Twain. The three sing, "You've Got A Friend". Carole not only plays the piano, but sings with Celine, Gloria, & Shania. For the finale, Celine, Gloria, Aretha, Shania, Mariah, & Carole take center stage to perform, "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman" and "Testimony".
These women gave one hell of a concert, proving that they are Divas. I just hope that for the divas of 2005, they'll choose: Madonna, Roberta Flack, Toni Braxton, Taylor Dayne, Melissa Etheridge, & Annie Lennox. The whole selist for VH1 Divas Live '98 and the Divas of '98 line-up are listed below:

Celine Dion - All the Way... A Decade of Song & Video (2001) Review

(More customer reviews)"Oh My God!" I couldn't stop watching this DVD once I got it. Celine is so spectacular, and this DVD sure does show it! I love all the old videos, "new" videos, and live performances! Who says teenage guys can't LOVE Celine?
Here's my run-down:
1. Program start: This is just a short "into" clip. About 30 seconds long. Short and sweet.
2. The Power of Love (Music Video):
I may not be "your lady," but I bet after seeing this video, and hearing this song, every guy wants to be Celine's "man." It's so amazing. She hits the high notes perfectly.
3. If You Asked Me To (Music Video):
This may be an old vid, but it's so great! Celine looks so beautiful, and the video made me feel as if I were in a dream. Great job!
4. Misled (Music Video):
Okay, maybe the video was kid of..."so, so." The song has kind of like a "funky" beat to it. Not what we're used to from Celine. But it's something different, and we don't here it all the time. And if it was a single, then it's gotta be good, right? Nice job.
5. Beauty and the Beast (duet with Terry Bradford) [LIVE]:
If it's a Disney song, then ya know it's great! Trust me, this is the song you want to be stuck in your head all day. It's live and from the "Falling Into You" concert, in Memphis. Not bad Celine, not bad at all.
6. Because You Loved Me [LIVE]:
No, it's not the music video. But it's just as good, (maybe even a little better). I LOVE this song. It's so pure. Celine... you know what we want. Thanks.
7. It's All Coming Back To Me Now [Single Version] (Music Video):
Now here's a side of Celine we don't see often. WOW! This video blew me away. So amazing! I loved it from the start till the end. Uh... what can ya say? It's G-R-E-A-T!
8. Love Can Move Mountains (Music Video):
I know everyone loves this song! It just makes you want to get up and dance, and just have a good time. And when you look beyond the fun, it has an outstanding message! Great song, fun video, positive message... what more can you ask for?
9. To Love You More (feat. Taro Hakase) [LIVE]:
A hit not only in Japan, but all over the world! Celine knows what she's doing! This song is amazing, and even features a very special guest! This is a wonderful performance!
10. My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme from Titanic) (Music Video):
Okay! Now you cannot get any bigger than Titanic! Oh, yes you can, just have a hit show in Las Vegas! This video is AMAZING! Celine is sooo beautiful in her dress, and I know everyone's head this song, and I know everyone LOVES it! No matter you are!
11. I'm Your Angel (duet with R. Kelly) (Music Video):
WOW! This is such a pure song, and is just so inspirational! Celine, doing her best as always, and a side of R. Kelly we hardly ever see. Just so heavenly!
12. That's the Way It Is (Music Video):
Seems almost impossible! Celine is so down-to-earth in this video. It's like she's one of us! We all love her, and we'll love her even more after this! I promise!
13. If Walls Could Talk (Music Video):
This is one of my most favorite video of ALL TIME! How can you pass this by! I cried when I saw this video! The setting is so calm and peaceful, Celine looks gorgeous, and song is so soothing! Bravo Celine, bravo!
14. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (From the "All The Way... A Decade of Song" CBS-TV Special) [LIVE]:
This is one of the songs that you'll wish you could only do, but Celine is the only one who can do it. Such a dreamy song. It just fades you away, and lets you know that your tribulations are for just a day. You'll just fade into this lovely balled.
15. All the Way (duet with Frank Sinatra) [LIVE]:
Ahhh... wonderful. A love song that can't get any better. And only Celine can sing it like Frank Sinatra. This is one of the BEST songs of all time... All the way.
16. Then You Look at Me (Music Video):
I love it! Celine performs this song, in a way that no other could, or can ever reach! This video is so cool! It has a mystery about it, the kind that makes me get chills every time I see it! Oh gosh! Just spectacular!
17. I Want You to Need Me (Music Video):
This is such a beautiful music video! Is that beach in there real? It looks gorgeous, and... If only I could have been there with Celine. I just adore this video!
18. Live For The One I Love (Music Video):
This video is sort of like in a dream, that you never want to wake up from. It just absolutely takes you away to a land where everything may just be perfect. This video... better than a dream.
BONUS VIDEO: It's All Coming Back to Me Now (stereo mix - long version) (Music Video):
Same review as #7, only longer, with added scene.
Over all, this DVD is as PERFECT as it get! Surly a prize you won't regret winning.

(More customer reviews)It seems to me that around the late 80's record companies didn't have the concept of including interviews or other material of the artist in video collections. This collection of videos by Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine is nothing more than a collection of videos (pardon the repetition). The title certainly applies, because it goes in chronological order, from very early ("dr. beat") to almost the 90's ("oye mi canto"). Look especially for the great videos "don't want to lose you," "oye mi canto," and "anything for you."

Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine - Homecoming Concert Review

(More customer reviews)Filmed in 1988 at the Miami Arena, with a sold-out, enthusiastic audience, Gloria Estefan is a marvel in this well-filmed concert from the early days of her incredibly successful career. The musicianship of the Miami Sound Machine is also terrific, and they put on a show that is full of energy and pizzazz. Gloria looks stupendous, with flawless skin and a glorious mane of hair, with 2 skin-tight costume changes, and an electric personality. My favorite piece is the stupendous "Conga," and Gloria dedicates "Words Get in the Way" to "The Ballad King," Julio Iglesias, who is in the audience, and takes a bow. There are 2 medleys sung in Spanish, as well as part of "Anything for You," and the rest is sung in English. The guys in the Miami Sound Machine deserve a lot of credit, and they are: Bass: Jorge Casas, keyboards: Clay Ostwald and Jim Trompeter, percussion: Rafael Padilla, trombone: Teddy Mulet, trumpet: Randy Barlow, guitar: John De Farria, sax: Mike Scaglione, and drums: Kiki Garcia. The audio and visual quality is very good, and total running time is 80 minutes.

Evolution Tour Live in Miami (1996) Review

(More customer reviews)I had known about this DVD for some time. I had resisted buying it for two reasons. One reason was the lack of 5.1 sound. The other was that I expected a two hour concert would have some slow parts.
Well I finally caved in and bought it, largely because of the great reviews it received here.
To my surprise, I did not feel there was any lull in the concert. In fact, it moves along at a very nice pace.
I was particularly impressed with how Gloria turned up the tempo in the last half hour at the point most of us would have been exhausted.
My favorite part was her chit chat with the guy in row two who brought the binoculars.
As I was watching the concert I started thinking, "Great concert, too bad there is no 5.1". In a moment of wishful thinking I pressed the sound button on my DVD remote and toggled on 5.1 sound! I double checked the DVD case--no spec about there being any 5.1 but my disk (purchased March 2004) does have it. To activate the 5.1 you can press the menu button and then configure the audio options or can just toggle the sound button on the DVD remote.
How is the 5.1 sound? To be truthful, it is better than the 2.0 sound but not a whole lot better. It is certainly not as good as the 5.1 mix on her Atlantis or Que Siga La Tradicion DVDs. However I'm still very pleased to have it.
