If You Want Blood You've Got It Review

The ultimate live 'Rock 'n' Roll' album - bar none, no arguments. This album is like a big, everlasting bone, that should be gnawed at in a frenzy, then buried and dug up every time there's a party or the pack are going out.
This is heavy rock as it's supposed to sound, loud, dangerous, tongue in cheek, and right in your face.
The opening guitar damage of "Riff Raff" comes straight out your speakers, dragging you round the walls like a sledgehammer with claws. "If you want blood" captures AC / DC in their rebellious prime. Angus Young rushing round the stage like an electrocuted school kid with it all to prove.
The school boy image sometimes hides the fact that Angus is one of the finest Rock 'n' Roll guitarists to hit the boards, you can almost hear him moon the audience in "Bad Boy Boogie".
The late, great Bon Scott tells stories as only he could, leaving nothing to the imagination, even in the song titles. Try "The Jack" or "Whole Lotta Rosie". The rhythm section of Angus's elder brother, "Malcolm", the absurdly hardrockin "Cliff Williams" & old Thundersticks himself, "Phil Rudd" don't let up for a second and you don't want them too either. What makes this mongrel's hair stand on end is half way through "Problem Child", Angus turns it up to eleven and sends the crowd onto another plain of ecstasy.
By the final conclusion of "The Rocker", you look round and your air guitar is in pieces and so are you.
This album was recorded in 1978. A year later Bon Scott left us and AC / DC were never the same. Good yes, this good never. If you haven't got an AC / DC album, get this, forget the rest.
Mott the Dog.

Being an absolutely HUGE AC/DC fan, this was quite a treat for myself... Family Jewels was so so... and I've had several concert videos on VHS, but this was just such a great release for the fans, probably since the Bonfire Box. Two DVD's, one dedicated dedicated to each of the both phenomenal vocalists, being that I'm impartial to either singer (RIP Bon), Both DVD's are just great to throw on, hook up the audio cables to the Hi-Fi and let'er rip... The audio and video quality are both great, spanning the decades of Rock, All you whiny audiophiles out there who have to have HD tv and dolby 5.1 and all that jazz need to suck it up and crank up the good ol' fashioned VOLUME knob!!! Highly recommended purchase for fans!!

The Razors Edge Review

The Razors Edge
Average Reviews:

This album was what AC/DC needed after a series of relatively mediocre albums. (for AC/DC that is, those are still better than 99% of recorded music) The album opens with the blistering Thunderstruck, which is already a staple of many aspiring rock guitar players. The record follows this with a bevy of hard rockers, Fire Your Guns, Moneytalks, Rock Your Heart Out, Are you Ready, and If You Dare, all of which bring back memories of the High Voltage and Highway to Hell albums. The tracks not mentioned above still dish out plenty of good-old rock 'n' roll, they're just not quite a memorable. The only track that leaves one wanting would be the absurd Mistress for Christmas, and if you take it as a joke (which I assume it is) even it's not too bad.

Ballbreaker (Dig) Review

Ballbreaker (Dig)

After a 4 year hiatus from relentless touring, and an amazing live album from 'The Razor's Edge' tour in '91, AC/DC returned with a fury with 'Ballbreaker.' A clever album that delivers the goods on several different levels. Burned out and depressed from the 'grunge' music of the early 90's, I faithfully bought this CD in hopes of returning to my upbeat heavy-metal arena rock memories. I wasn't disappointed. This album rocks. It also got alot of airplay when it was first released. Yes, it's a bit polished, but that's ok. Produced by Rick Rubin, an experienced producer, this album was a moderate success. The DVD of their live concert in Spain, 'No Bull' is a must for any true AC/DC fan. This was recorded during the 'Ballbreaker' tour.A perfect companion piece to this one. I got to see them twice in CA, and I was 11th row the first time. (I had just finished a bottle of Yukon Jack before the show!) Angus and Brian ran right past us and I was in AC/DC heaven. 'Hail Caesar' is a highlight and so is 'The Furor'. The boys take it easy and just play good blues/rock 'n' roll for this one. They don't have anything to prove. They don't have to churn out an album every year like other poser bands. The comic-book jacket-booklet is very cool. As with all of the re-issued/remasters, the true sound and fury of AC/DC is brought out and it sounds really f-ing great. This is a very good album on its own and was a powerful live performance. It was hard to follow this one, and their 'Stiff Upper Lip' album was also good and bluesy, but it missed a few beats. This album proves that AC/DC is still 'Hard as a Rock' after decades of rocking the living daylights out of its fans.

Fly on the Wall (Dlx) Review

Fly on the Wall (Dlx)

If memory serves me, the mid 1980s weren't too kind to AC/DC. After a string of million selling albums, the band saw its sales decline, and it lost much of its thunder to more polished, radio-friendly groups (Van Halen, Motley Crue, Def Leppard). AC/DC could have jumped on a bandwagon, done the USA for Africa thing, and dabble with synths to be more "relevant" and "current" with the times. Instead, they released in 1985 "Fly on the Wall," which stubbornly follows the same formula these Aussies have been using since the early 1970s. This release seems to get a bad rap in some circles, and let's be honest: it won't make anyone forget about "Highway to Hell." Even so, it's 40 minutes of pure dumb fun that makes for a wild ride. The singles "Danger" and "Sink the Pink" are obnoxiously loud anthems that have singer Brian Johnson and guitarist Angus Young doing what they do best: create catchy and head-banging rockers. Johnson's voice always sounded like he swallowed a box of nails, but it sounds even more mangled on this CD. And the music, remastered with care by Sony, projects with aggressive force and sounds best when played at maximum volume. In retrospect, I think "Fly on the Wall" is one of AC/DC's more underrated albums. While it ain't no classic, it's still a fun trip from one of the most consistent and likable bands around.

Absolutely Best at the Highest possible Volume on a Surround sound system.
AC/DC Deliver for the fans, and they deliver consistently.
I doubt very much that the DVD is Overdubbed, since the Sound is the Same as Every other AC/DC Release. But even if it is overdubbed, WHAT THE HELL...
This is a Great Show, and the Goods are delivered.
Angus Plays brilliantly, and works the crowd superbly. As for the alleged disparity between what you see and what you hear... Angus is 5"2, so his playing of the Gibson SG he uses is deceptive, it looks one way when physically he is producing the sound by what his body does and his left hand technique. Hard to explain, but what you see is not always what you hear.
The other thing that I thought any Movie viewer would know, is that In Making a Concert Film, a Second , third, or whatever, camera is used for "Inserts", and this is matched as best as can be done... which does not always work; this does not mean that the Track is overdubbed, merely that the Line editor, and the Final Edit did not match.
Anyway, this is Superb.
Get NO BULL: LIVE IN MADRID, and The DVD of AC/DC Live in Munich... Extremely Brilliant !!!!!!!!
This is a real Step up from the Original VHS Release.

Live (Dlx) Review

This album hasn't been recieved well in ANY circle; critics despise it, fans overlook it. The CD has fared best amongst the uninitiated, which was me back in 1992. My first three CD's were purchased at almost the same time: Metallica's "Black Album," Aerosmith's "Get a Grip," and AC/DC's "Live." I still love all those albums. It puzzles me that "Live" gets very little respect considering the high quality of the band's material. "Thunderstruck" is better live than on the "Razor's Edge." "Who Made Who" live is a total classic. "TNT" is very different from Bon's version, but not inferior. Sure, the "Back in Black" material is not as good as the original stuff, but the same is not true for the mid-80's-through-1990 songs.
Perhaps everyone is partial to the first incantation they remember from the band. A good majority of the fans, swear by Bon Scott's 70s version of AC/DC (something I've never been partial to). Many prefer Brian Johnson's 80s band. And both of those camps tend to ridicule the post 1991 stuff, myself included. After this album there was the Last Action Hero Soundtrack and a couple albums with three-star material at best. Then again, if that were true, "Live" captures AC/DC at the end of their stride, not their peak. Ahh, for me none of that matters. I think we're all fond of the first album we ever hear by a band, and this was mine for AC/DC. This is how I remember them.
Overall: 8 out of 10.

Stiff Upper Lip Review

It is a very difficult thing to say that any particular AC/DC album is their "best." They have so much high quality material. But suffice to say the Stiff Upper Lip delivers the hard-rocking' goods on every track, just like Highway to Hell, Back in Black, and High Voltage. It suffers from none of the muddy production problems that plagued their post-Mutt Lange albums, in fact it sounds better than any of their albums, in terms of production, except the remastered Back in Black. AC/DC's previous two albums (Razor's Edge & Ballbreaker), to me anyways, signifigantly improved over the majority of mid-late 80's material (Fly on the Wall, Blow Up Your Video), but SUL absolutely demolishes The Razor's Edge and Ballbreaker in terms of power, riffage, and Brian fixed-up vocals sound better than he has in a long, long time. Every song has that indefinable "timeless" rock sound that pours out from a lot of their late 70's material. Each song has you wondering "How can they not release this as a single?" Songs alternate between Back In Black evil rock (Safe in New York City, House of Jazz, Damned(my fav) and Powerage-style funky blues licks (Meltdown, Hold Me Back, Can't Stand Still). You absolutely cannot go wrong with record. Easily on par with your favorite AC/DC album, and easily better than the rest.

Don't get me wrong, I love AC/DC, which is why I bought the DVD. The concert is amazing, and that's the whole problem. The camera work and editing is so disjointed and frenetic, you never get to watch the band in action. The entire concert is filmed with switches between cameras almost as fast as the music, and I guess that is what the director was going for. But there is never focus on the band as a whole, or their interactions, let alone concentrating on any one member for more that 1 second.
Huge disappointment.

Flawless performances here. Staind sound so good live you almost forget how boring they are to watch. Deadsy successfully update Rush's "Tom Sawyer" as Gothic synth-metal, a bold statement because I can't stand Rush. STP proves why they're still around with spot-on performances of classics "Vaseline" and "Wicket Garden". And Aaron Lewis is all over the place, dropping surprisingly cool guest appearances with both Linkin Park ("One Step Closer", also featuring a young lovely named Michelle) and STP (a stunning version of "Creep"), and taking the stage for a stirring solo acoustic cover of Pearl Jam's "Black" that would bring tears to the eyes of Eddie Vedder himself. And overall some of the best recording I've ever heard on a live album. It's really good stuff, whether you saw the show or not.
