If you can get past the emotional attachment of orginal members..This album Rocks! Paul Stanley did a fine job producing it,and the band sounds great. A true group effort,that can not be said of the past few orginal member Kiss albums. Pyscho circus n Dynasty included.
Tommy gets to sing lead on "when lighting strikes" a good rocker. Eric gets to sing lead on "all for one" a catchy anthem,and thay sound great singing back up on the rest of the songs. Paul and Gene both bring the swagger on there songs. Not the best Kiss ablum but its for sure a great one!
Ace has a new one out also,Anomaly. Its a great album also but in a different way. I say check them both out.

THE DISC: (2001) 12 tracks clocking in at just under 51 minutes. Included with the disc is a 14-page booklet containing band pictures, song credits, song lyrics, and thank you's. Recorded and mixed at the Bone Yard (South Shore, MA). Label - Columbia.
COMMENTS: There are two types of Aerosmith. The 1st is the hard rocking raunch & roll band from Sunapee, NH... wrote great songs during the 1970's because they wanted to and that's what they loved doing... whether they got paid big bucks or not. The 2nd is the commercially successful corporate american business version of the band. Depending on which Aero you like - this will either be middle of the road noise, or it will be wonderful music to your ears. Aerosmith is growing - they are keeping up with the times and incorporating the sounds that are popular today. You will hear drum loops and even rap ("Just Push Play") present. They are growing with the times and I can accept that. If your a fan of the old Aero, like me, this probably isn't going to floor you. In my book, the classics "Get Your Wings", "Toys In The Attic" and "Rocks" were probably three of the greatest rock records of the (70's) decade. If you enjoy the new & more recent releases by Aero (90's), you will dig this album. Previous albums like "Nine Lives" and "Get A Grip" were saturated with the power ballads and were not the true band in their best form (also - movie soundtracks like Armegeddon's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" is a great example). While containing some familiar tongue in cheek rockers, most of the songs were middle of the road AOR tunes with mixed fillers of soft "heartbreak" lullabies geared toward the female audience. On "Just Push Play", the same format is used. While a few hard rockers are present (the best being "Outta Your Head), this album lays down to many ballads ("Avant Garden", "Beyond Beautiful" and "Luv Lies" may be the best of a mixed bag of 'em). I have to admit, when this album first come out I wasn't impressed (not to mention hating the album cover). However, over the years it has absolutely grown on me (especially the title track). The album starts off with an extremely solid 1-2-3 punch ("Beyond Beautiful, "Just Push Play" and "Jaded"). In my opinion, the Aero of 2001 is closer to FM-Lite radio than it is to rock & roll. Not that it's a bad thing, but rather where your likes & dislikes are (3.5 stars).

Lock Up the Wolves Review

(More customer reviews)This album is as good as Holy Diver, Last In Line, Dream Evil and Sacred Heart. The slow songs are great and the faster power metal songs are great too. Ronnie's voice has never been better and Rowan Robertson is as good if not better than any other Dio guitarist. Robertson was only 16 but his riffs and solos are amazing. The best songs are Born On The Sun, Lock Up The Wolves, Walk On water, Why Are They Watching Me and My Eyes. Every song on this album is worth listening too. If you like Dio's other albums or good metal music in general than buy this album.

Out-of-print in the US. For the '90s, Ronnie James Dio retired his entire band and put together a brand new Dio line-up for 1990's LOCK UP THE WOLVES. While some new members were already familiar to longtime heavy metal fans (drummer Simon Wright was a brief member of AC/DC in the mid-80's, while keyboardist Jens Johansson did time in Yngwie Malmsteen's band), the biggest story of the new line-up was newcomer Rowen Robertson on guitar.Like Dio's previous guitarists (Vivian Campbell and Craig Goldie), Robertson's heavy riffs and technically accomplished soloing skills complemented Dio's mediaeval storytelling perfectly. The young guitarist, who was barely in his 20s, reinvigorated Dio's desire to rock, as evidenced by such tracks as the vicious album opening "Wild One", as well as the title track and "Walk on Water".--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Draw the Line Review

(More customer reviews)Coming off their best two albums, "Draw the Line" released in 1977 is not a complete disappointment. As is the case with most recordings, the ones that follow masterpieces tend to be underrated. The lifestyle that Aerosmith had chosen was beginning to show it's effects on the band creatively but by no means were they done yet.
The CD opens with the riff-roaring "Draw the Line" and the rocking "I Wanna Know Why" before slipping into the average "Critical Mass". "Get it Up" may be one of the funkiest tunes they had done up to this point and the punkish Joe Perry sung "Bright Light Fright" is quite interesting.
The second half opens with the classic "Kings and Queens" and along with the title track represents classic Aerosmith in the best sense. A few average rockers follow, "The Hand That Feeds" and "Sight For Sore Eyes" before closing with the Arnold penned blues of "Milk Cow Blues".
Alhough not quite as good as it's two predecessors ("Toys in the Attic", "Rocks") "Draw the Line" finds Aerosmith running out of breath but still in the race. After this it was all downhill. Newcomers may want to avoid this as an introduction but if you're a fan of classic Aerosmith then this CD sounds GREAT turned up!
If only they could rock this hard today.

Slaves & Masters Review

(More customer reviews)Slaves and Masters was recorded in 1990/1991 after Ritchie Blackmore fired Ian Gillan from the band. Gillan was replaced by Joe Lynn Turner, who was Blackmore's cohort in Rainbow from 1981-1984. Consequently, this album turns out sounding like a Turner-era Rainbow album more than a Purple album. Personally, I'm not a fan of JLT Rainbow--give me Ronnie James Dio any day--but I have to admit that I like this album better than the three Rainbow albums with JLT. The first three tracks--King of Dreams, The Cut Runs Deep, and Fire In the Basement--are all pretty good. Unfortunately, after that, the album goes south rather quickly. Truth Hurts is an OK ballad-like song, but most of the album sounds like Ritchie is trying to get an 80s-style pop-rock hit. I'd recommend this only if you're a Purple fanatic completist like me or if you really, really, really love Joe Lynn Turner. Incidentally, Turner was unceremoniously dumped after the tour and Blackmore reluctantly replaced him with Gillan after much complaining from Lord, Paice, Glover, and fans.

Hot in the Shade Review

(More customer reviews)Hot In The Shade marks the end of an era for KISS. It was the last album featuring the late, great, Eric Carr on drums, and it was the last album where "pop" Metal tunes were in the majority. HITS boasts some of KISS' best material in songs such as "Rise To It" (a classic KISS stomper very similar to their 70's material), "Betrayed" (the son of "Deuce"), "Hide Your Heart" (written for Crazy Nights, and would have been a standout track on that album), the top 10 hit "Forever" (one of the best "power ballads" ever), and "Silver Spoon" (Paul's nod to latter-day Aerosmith). Plenty of solid but unspectacular tracks such as "Prisoner Of Love," "Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell," and "Little Caesar" (Eric Carr's vocal debut on one of his own songs) fill out the album. There are also a couple of tracks that should have been left off of the album simply because they were nowhere near the caliber that warrants inclusion on a KISS album. Those songs include "Read My Body" (a poor attempt at cloning Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me," with a rather stiff rap verse from Paul), and "Cadillac Dreams" (a rather un-KISS-like shuffle). Gene's "The Street Giveth And The Street Taketh Away" is another standout track (giving just a little tip of the hat to Guns N Roses), as is "Boomerang," another fast and furious tune driven hard by Eric. All in all a truly mixed bag.

Show of Hands Review

(More customer reviews)Rush's tradition of releasing a live album after every fourth studio release continues with "A Show of Hands". Unlike the wretched "Exit Stage Left" which was plauged by terrible recording problems, this albums avoids the problems which make "Exit" nearly unlistenable. Unlike "Exit" and the masterful "All the World's A Stage" which present one live show, "A Show of Hands" presents cuts from different concerts and tours.
As an attempt to show case different tours, it lacks the cohesion and sustained energy that make a "Rush in Rio" and "R30" such triumphs. As an anthology of different shows, the shifts between the different concerts is often jarring.
It's absurd to label this as the "worst" Rush live album--since its clearly far superior to "Exit, Stage Left." (And "Exit's" problems are not performance-related, but as I note above, technical.)
As a matter of personal preference, I like a live album to be of one show, a snapshot, so to speak, of a band's work and spirit at a single moment in time.
For the new Rush fan I would not recommend it. "Different Stages" would be a much better intro to their live work. It showcases their more recent work as well as the pre-"Hemispheres" albums on that fantastic third concert disc.
All of that having been said, "A Show of Hands" should be in every serious Rush fan's collection. It is really completely inaccurate to describe Rush's 80's oeuvre as "the synth period" since the use of synths began with 1976's "2112". The shift is gradual and doesn't support the label the period is too often given.
As a sampling of their live shows in the 80s, it does a good job. To repeat, I would have preferred one show but the anthology approach does provide a more global perspective on one of the most successful concert acts of the last thirty years.
Rush also has has more consecutive gold and platinum albums than any other band--excepting only the Beatles and Rolling Stones (in the that order).

Thunder & Lightning Review

(More customer reviews)By the time the mighty Thin Lizzy machine was beginning to grind to a halt Phil Lynott decide to inject new blood in the band once more and roll the dice. Insert John Sykes to the two-headed monster of guitarist Scott Gorham and whoever Lizzy got to play axe with him. The swan song from the band delivers like a white-hot burning pile of anvils. The title track will want to make even the most calm individual break a pool que over someone nearby's head at the sheer intensity and voracity of the production. After that the band delivers a collection of well made hard rock and roll. There is no filler on this release and each song is unique unto itself and a credit to the often maligned genre. In the meantime, Gorham's heavy vibrato-laden melodic solos hit even harder as Sykes extraordinary blistering technique pushes Gorham's work completely out of the envelope. The wonderful Lynott vocal melodies are hard at work here as well, bringing unexpected hooks to songs such as "This is the One" "Bad Habits" "Sun Goes Down" and "Baby Please don't go". This was the perfect album for the band to leave as it's final piece of work. It puts a final head-banging stamp on what is arguably the best body of work ever achieved by a band in its genre.

(More customer reviews)KISS ALIVE II! Need I say more? I was 8 years old when I first saw and heard this album. Up until this time I was being raised on the likes of Ernest Tubb, John Denver, Waylon Jennings and such. Then one day I walked into my grandmothers house and heard my uncle listening to something extremely loud! I asked what it was and he showed me the album ALIVE II. That did it! Today it is by far the loudest recorded live album I have ever heard. KISS was way before their time. From the opening explosions of "Detroit Rock City" to the screaming chant of "we want kiss" following "Shout It Out Loud", this album is still rocking heavy almost 25 yrs later! Check out Ace Freyleys intro to "King Of The Nightime World", his guitar sounds like a screaming siren not to mention the rest of his blistering fingerwork! I have owned this recording on 8track, vinyl, cassette, and currently Cd. This is music worth listening to over and over and it still rates and sounds fresh with todays heavy new artist. If you have a chance to catch KISS live I promise you it will be a show that you never forget! If you don't see them live, this record is the next best thing. One listen to this and I think you will agree why KISS is called "The hottest band in the world!" Crank this one!

(More customer reviews)This album shows how good hard rock can get with high flying amazing solos and great lyrical work and i dicovered this while staying up all night one saturday night in the summer of 1999. (12:00AM)It was gonna be another one of my late night being alone and rockin out sort of nights and I had chose one album to rock out to and i picked Crazy World. Now when i started listening to it the sound of it hit me like a ton of bricks and i ended up listening to it 6 times during to period of 12:00AM - 5:00AM, never really wearing out my likeing to it but sort of memorizing every word that Klause was singing.(5:00AM) I saw the sun was creeping up on the horizon through the living room window and at the time I was listening to "Send Me An Angel" and at that very moment me opening my eyes and seeing the sun and listening to that song at the same time created a feeling so powerful that i bursted into tears. With every good album i listen to i compare it to crazy world and no album comes close to the power to this great album had on me.

(More customer reviews)this was a good album.it holds some of the greatest songs ever written in the 80s like "Tears Are Falling","Anyway You Slice It","King of the Mountain" and "I'm Alive".Although songs like "Radar for Love" were a disapointment.
But I dont really know why people put this album down.one of the greatest Kiss lineups started here.Bruce Kulice is one of the best guitarests to ever play with Kiss.Hiss solo for "Tears Are Falling" will prove that to you.And all in all,this may not be their best,but its a must-have!

Live: Right Here Right Now Review

(More customer reviews)I really wish there were more Van Halen live albums, because this one really cooks! Sammy Hagar sounds excellent as usual and the band plays awesome on every track.
"Judgement Day" sounds absolutely furious on this, better than the album version, in fact. "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" sounds really good. Sammy does a nice job on the Roth-era classic. "Ultra Bass" is outstanding! Finally, we get to hear Micheal Anthony at the forefront, not drowned out by everyone else. This is a very impressive solo and it's about time he got one on an album! "Pleasure Dome/Drum Solo" is incredible. Some very heavy guitar leads into a long, amazing drum solo by the incomparable Alex Van Halen. This guy has the energy of ten men, I'm sure. How he can do those lightning-quick solos for so long without collapsing is beyond me. Wow! "Love Walks In" is one of my favorite Sammy love songs and sounds superb with Eddie on Keyboard and Sammy on guitar. "Right Now" sounds great as usual, as does "Why Can't This Be Love." Well, I've highlighted some stuff by everyone but Eddie. "316" is his shining moment on this album. An amazing solo that has to be heard to be fully appreciated. His guitar work is great on every song, but this is the standout for him.
Well, everything is awesome about this one except for one thing; the sound quality. It sounds too spacious, as if they recorded in the middle of the concert hall. As a result, it sounds like you're listening to the album with a concert hall effect on all the time. Too much echo is a result, which makes it harder to differentiate things.
This is my only complaint. It is a small one considering how good this album is. If you are a Van Halen fan, you will love this. If you are a Sammy Hagar-era Van Halen fan, you will love it even more. There's only one way to rock, apparently, and this is it!

Alive Review

(More customer reviews)I received this LP as my 9th birthday present when it had just come out, and recently bought a used copy of the remaster of it.
All the complaints about how artificially-enhanced this album is are spurious, as if 3/4 of the "live albums" in history aren't re-constructed and optimized for maximum effect in the post-production. Eddie Kramer did an amazing job, and his role was central in making this one of the ear-splatteringest, heaviest records of all time. I listened to the remaster in headphones on 11 and afterwards I had to lie down it was so head-crushingly loud.
The versions of the tunes on this make their studio counterparts sound like "Alvin and the Chipmunks Play Kiss". Every song just completely obliterates its corresponding appearance on the first 3 albums that preceded it, as if their studio records were just a run-through and the live one was meant to be "here's our songs played by Satan on steroids" by comparison.
What's telling is that there are no visuals, and despite this band's reliance on the poly-pyrotechnic stage show and all the criticism about how the theatrics were there to conceal the crappy music, the tunes stand up just fine. The truth is that without good tunes nobody would have cared that the drumkit was levitating or that the bass player was breathing fire. Someone said that in the '70s even the bad music was great, and the very worst twaddle on this album is like Vivaldi compared with the crap that passes for music today. Jessica Simpson couldn't write songs this good, even if she were to receive Brian Wilson's brain in a transplant... that's how hopeless things have gotten.
This record just roars and blows your head off from start to finish, every song just builds and builds the momentum... let's just say it's worth a Deuce, even if it does put yet more money into the misogynistic, greedy hands of Gene Simmons.

(More customer reviews)I love WORLD WIDE LIVE. Musically, I give it 5 stars, but the remastered version only deserves one. Why? The remastering job stinks. The once powerful guitars are now buried in the mix. It sounds lame. Get a copy of an old tape instead. Once you do that, you'll see how awesome this album really is. All the songs really come alive here.

Being Aerosmith's first live album, it included live versions of songs from all of their albums; AEROSMITH (Released in 1973, tracks that make an apperance on this album are Mama Kin and Dream On), GET YOUR WINGS (1974, included on this album are Lord Of The Thighs, SOS, and Train Kept A Rollin), TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1975, Toys In The Attic, Walk This Way, and Sweet Emotion), ROCKS (1976, Back In The Saddle, Sick As A Dog, Last Child), and DRAW THE LINE (1977, Draw The Line, Sight For Sore Eyes).This CD also includes a few songs not on these albums (The cover of the Beatle's Come Together, Chip Away The Stone, and two covers from an apperance at Pall's Mall in 1973 that is widely bootleged: Mother Popcorn and I Ain't Got You)
The original release on vinyl was on two records, and included a poster. The cover was meant to parody bootlegs of Aerosmith shows that surfaced. Infact, to make it seem more like a bootleg, they did not include "Draw The Line" on the tracklisting. This is from the 1978 show in Philadelphia at the Tower.
This is Aerosmith's at its raunchiest, rawest form. The band was heavily in drugs at the time and that is evident in the recordings. For example, in Dream On, Steven seems to struggle with the vocals in this song. But to me, this is what Aerosmith is. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Even the ugly is better than any music out there today. Aerosmith is up in your face for over an hour. Highlights of the album include a fast-paced Toys In The Attic, a 7+ minute Lord Of The Thighs jam, and the the two "club" numbers Mother Popcorn and I Ain't Got You. But really, the whole album is a highlight. Everything is so loose and rocking, it is the perfect defintion of what a live album should be. A lot of the tracks here are even better than their studio counterparts, for example, S.O.S., Walk This Way (which includes Joe Perry using the talkbox throughout the song), Train Kept A Rollin (incluiding Strangers in the Night), and Sight for Sore Eyes (which Stevens opens the song by asking "Are they gonna let you dance tonight?").
If you are only familiar with the new "polished" Aerosmith (see Just Push Play), you might have a little difficulty adjusting to the band as they were over 20 years ago. This is Aerosmith at its roots. This is Aerosmith before it was pressured by record companies to make pop songs. This is Aerosmith playing raw rock n roll. This is one album that should not be passed up by any fan of Aerosmith, or even rock music in general. This is one of the best live albums of all time and ranks at the top alongside Get Yer Ya-Yas Out and If You Want Blood.

(More customer reviews)This album hasn't been recieved well in ANY circle; critics despise it, fans overlook it. The CD has fared best amongst the uninitiated, which was me back in 1992. My first three CD's were purchased at almost the same time: Metallica's "Black Album," Aerosmith's "Get a Grip," and AC/DC's "Live." I still love all those albums. It puzzles me that "Live" gets very little respect considering the high quality of the band's material. "Thunderstruck" is better live than on the "Razor's Edge." "Who Made Who" live is a total classic. "TNT" is very different from Bon's version, but not inferior. Sure, the "Back in Black" material is not as good as the original stuff, but the same is not true for the mid-80's-through-1990 songs.
Perhaps everyone is partial to the first incantation they remember from the band. A good majority of the fans, swear by Bon Scott's 70s version of AC/DC (something I've never been partial to). Many prefer Brian Johnson's 80s band. And both of those camps tend to ridicule the post 1991 stuff, myself included. After this album there was the Last Action Hero Soundtrack and a couple albums with three-star material at best. Then again, if that were true, "Live" captures AC/DC at the end of their stride, not their peak. Ahh, for me none of that matters. I think we're all fond of the first album we ever hear by a band, and this was mine for AC/DC. This is how I remember them.
Overall: 8 out of 10.

Diver Down Review

In my opinion it's one of their best albums but for some reason it's just overlooked by everyone. It was a great followup to an even greater album, Fair Warning. Diver Down for the most part is half cover songs and half originals with some instrumentals thrown in. I'll review the cover songs first. The first cover on the album is of the Kinks' classic Where Have All the Good Times Gone?, the Mighty Van Halen's version blows the original away. The only hit from this album was the cover of Roy Orbison's (OH)Pretty Woman, they did a great version of this song also. They also cover the classic song Dancing in the Streets, a lot of people say this is their worst song but I thin they did an excellent job on the song, David Lee Roth sounds great. The last two covers on the album are strange ones indeed, the first one is called Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now)it is a very slow ragtime sounding song, it features Jan Van Halen (Eddie and Aelx's father) on clarinet, then the song that closes the album is Happy Trails, the VH boys do a great song on this song also, the background vocals are great and Dave's voice fits the song. So that's the story on the cover songs, now the first original is called Hang em High. This song is typical early Van Halen and it's amazing. Great guitar riff and eccentric drumming by Alex. Cathedral is a short Eddie instrumental, then it goes into Secrets. It is a good song, very underrated. Little Guitars is without a doubt the best song on the album, and no doubt one of Van Halen's best. The song is very catchy and poppy. The last original on the album is The Full Bug, this is also one of the best Van Halen songs ever. There is a short acoustic intro before kicking into a great rocker. Everything about this album is great, any fan of great music should pick this up, don't listen to what everybody says, and don't overlook this masterpiece
