(More customer reviews)"Revenge" caught Dave and Annie on the road to Arena Rock Superstardom, and they created a record with a crack band that would sound good blasting out at concertgoers from enormous speakers. In doing so, they abandoned the intimacy of their early work--one of their great assets.
That's not to say that this is not a good album--it is, featuring "Missionary Man," (one of their best singles), and "Thorn in My Side." The other singles here, though, sound a little trite and insincere--"Miracle of Love" and "When Tomorrow Comes." Just a little too much commercial lip gloss on those two. But "Let's Go" and "A Little of you" are great album cuts.
The remastering is good, the bonus tracks, alas, are not. I have personal memories of dancing around arms flailing to the Missionary Man remix in my youth, but all their remixes sound a little dated, especially in comparison to the original tracks, which, miraculously for pop music, have not aged a bit.
After this, Eurythmics produced one last great album (Savage), and then occasional sparks of brilliance. But this was the beginning of the end.

This edition has been digitally re-mastered from the original master tapes by Eurythmics mastermind Dave Stewart, with input from collaborator Annie Lennox. In addition, there are six bonus tracks: a mixture of b-sides, remixes, and previously unreleased material (notably a cover of Mary Wells' classic "My Guy"). The packaging is a six-panel digipack redesign orchestrated by Laurence Stevens Design, the firm who art-directed all the original releases, while the thick booklets contain rare photos and insightful, new sleeve notes.

(More customer reviews)Ringo Starr's new album "Y Not" is probably the most coherant album he has recorded since 1992's "Time Takes Time". This is simple rock and roll at it's best. Ringo's last few albums have been pop oriented but this one has more grit thanks to Joe Walsh's excellent guitar riffs. The first track "Fill In The Blanks" is the best track he has recorded in years. I'm a hardcore Ringo fan and I haven't been this excited about an Ex-Beatles album since the early 80's. Really. Ringo's vocals on tracks like "Mystery Of The Night" and "The Other Side Of Liverpool" actually soar. The entire album feels like it jumped out of 1988 and that's just fine because the sound is really awesome. "Peace Dream" with Paul McCartney is produced so well that you will not be able to get enough of it - not in an annoying way. Kind of like eating really good french fries and wanting more. Ringo has churned out some excellent music in the past ten odd years and this one tops them all. No kidding. I can be a harsh critic, even for my favourite Beatle. So run to your local record store and say "Gimme that record called Y NOT!"

2010 album from the former Beatle and Rock icon. For the first time in one of popular music's most enduring and illustrious careers, Ringo Starr has decided to take charge and produce himself. The result is perhaps the most personal and impressive album of this Rock legend's entire solo career. The joyous result finds Ringo leading a smaller core group of old and new friends including longtime pal and recent brother-in-law Joe Walsh, Dave Stewart and longtime Roundheads member Steve Dudas on guitar, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on keyboards, Don Was and Mike Bradford on bass. The album also features special guests like Joss Stone, Ben Harper and Richard Marx on vocals, Ann Marie Calhoun on violin and Tina Sugandh on tabla and chanting. Starr's former bandmate and longstanding mate Paul McCartney, who adds a characteristically brilliant bass part to the inspiring 'Peace Dream' and even more notably provides his unmistakably fabulous vocals to 'Walk With You,' an exquisite new composition by Starr and Van Dyke Parks.
