So, I've been waiting for a new Janet collection for awhile, so when she announced "Number Ones", I was super excited. I was even happier when she announced the official track listing. I thought, except for the exclusion of "You Want This", it was perfect. And when I got the CD, it even exceeded my expectations. The remastering is superb! You hear it as soon as you put in the first CD and hear the very beginning of "What Have You Done For Me Lately". It really stands out on the first disc, especially songs like "When I Think Of You", "Let's Wait Awhile", and "Love Will Never Do (Without You)".
Another thing I like is the rare tracks, or at least rare versions. Thankfully they included the Single Remix of "Let's Wait Awhile" unlike on "Decade". Another great inclusion is the video mix of "All For You", which includes the dance break and was originally only available on the CD Single. I DO wish they would have just used the single edit for "Any Time, Any Place" instead of the R. Kelly Remix, which it didn't even say it was. Another 'false labeling' is the fact that it said "Janet feat. BLACKstreet" on "I Get Lonely", but was actually the solo album/radio edit instead. I like the solo version better, but I hate that they put one thing and it says another.
Overall, I would suggest this collection to major fans, minor fans, and everyone in between. It covers her past 23 years of music so well.

1990 was a watershed year in Kylie Minogue's career. She abandonned the image that was created for her by pop svengalis Stock/Aitken/Waterman and reinvented herself... for the first time! The album opens with the most brilliant track our little budgie ever laid vox on, "Better The Devil You Know". This track, to show its staying power, was recently recorded by Pete Waterman's newest project, Steps. Proceeding into the album even further, one encounters these other jewels- "Step Back In Time"(a tribute to the Philly Soul era of the early-mid 70s), "What Do I Have To Do?" (recently covered by Almighty Recording artist, Kia), and the blissful "Shocked". There is not a single track on this ablum that is not 100% inspired! Additional standout tracks include the non-PWL produced "One Boy Girl (f/Princessa)", "The World Still Turns", "Secrets" and "Things Can Only Get Better"- Which I implore you to check out in its remixed version which can be found on Kylie's Greatest Remixes CDs. This album is the purest of pop and one Kylie's finest hours in her early career. Also check out "Light Years" for her most recent hits!

Kylie Minogue: KylieFever2002 Review

Kylie Minogue: KylieFever2002 <In Concert - Live in Manchester>

i, like many others, knew and loved the sydney DVD first. that show is incredibly upbeat throughout, w/ kylie clearly having a blast and everything is very extrovert. the goal for this concert was to match the fever album, and have a more "cool" and technological aesthetic. the result is less "fun" and less immediately catchy than the sydney show, but after i got used to the concept i found that i loved this concert just as much. although i think it's too bad kylie does less dancing (she's a great dancer!), it does a good job of giving a more sophisticated feel.
the show is divided into seven distinct sections. the first has kylie w/ a team of "cyborgs", and the opener, "come into my world", is just fantastic. the 2nd is based on a clockwork orange, then comes a medley of ballads (w/ kylie in a gorgeous black dress), then a more urban section, then a sexy section (w/ an absolutely great reworking of locomotion), then a clubby section (w/ "limbo" and a great, great, great new version of "lucky"). the encore section includes a sort of native american/tribal kylie on a platform covered by a huge dress, and then ends w/ kylie solo doing "can't get blue monday out of my head". kylie's vocals are strong and her live performance is always engaging; her band is first rate; the set, costumes, and camerawork are great; the projections are generally good (esp. the GBI ones which have kylie in a pink japanese-style wig and are just fantastic); and her dancing is less pop-style, but generally fits the music well. also, the setlist is a good mix of recent singles and less familiar tunes, including a lovely version of "the crying game".
this edition is great b/c it includes a lot of bonuses, including a section of the digital projections from the concert for 4 songs, a documentary, an audio CD of most of the highlights from the show (sadly the "lucky" remix isn't here, but it's on the digital projections), a digital version of the tour book, and a photo gallery. all in all this is a great release, and the extras are totally worth it if you're a fan.

Kylie Minogue: Live - Kylie X 2008 Review

Kylie Minogue: Live - Kylie X 2008

I was very excited to hear that KylieX2008 is finally coming to DVD. When I first ordered it, I was a little sceptical because I haven't really heard anything about the DVD coming to NTSC format (for US & Canada). After I read the reviews, I had to order it - watched it for the first time last Saturday and fell in love with it!! This is by far one of Kylie's best tours!! It was very successful last year and is completely different from her previous concerts! Kylie is backed up by her band (with brass players), a minimalist set with huge LCD screens which cue as curtains, and different acts. Here's the setlist:
ACT 1: Xlectro Static - Kylie is dressed as a spiderwoman/dancers as robots
1. Speakerphone
2. Can't Get You Out Of My Head (Greg Kurtsin Remix) - love this version and I like how she adds some lines from her unreleased song "Boombox."
3. Ruffle My Feathers - an unreleased track from the X sessions
4. In Your Eyes (X2008 version) - this is an electro remix of IYE. Love this version!
ACT 2: Cheer Squad - Kylie and her dancers are dressed as cheerleaders/American football players at a pep rally!
5. Heart Beat Rock
6. Wow
7. Shocked (DNA Mix)
ACT 3: Beach Party - my favorite section! Kylie and her dancers are dressed as sailors
8. Loveboat - One of my favorite songs off of Light Years! I like how she also incorporates the LoveBoat theme song in the beginning
9. Copacabana - The Barry Manilow cover with her dancers acting out the song with Kylie's vocals!
10. Spinning Around - Kylie does a mash-up with Spinning Around to the music of Cheryl Lynn's Got To Be Real
ACT 4: Xposed - Kylie is dressed as an "erotic bellboy"
11. Like a Drug - Kylie sings as she is riding on a platinum skull
12. Slow - it's slightly remixed with a rock feel to it. Kylie also sings some lines from "Free."
13. 2 Hearts - Kylie grooves to this song along with her band!
ACT 5: Naughty Manga Girl - Kylie is dressed as a Manga inspired character while her dancers are dressed as Samurais and Geishas!
14. Sometime Samurai - a video interlude with her acrobats
15. Come Into My World (Fischerspooner Remix) - the set is awesome! Petals and snow flying from the air while Kylie comes out of a black pyramid.
16. Nu-Di-Ty - one word: HOT!!
17 Sensitized
ACT 6: Starry Nights - Kylie is dressed in a blue gown - this is the slow section of the concert
18. Flower - an unreleased song from the X sessions
19. I Believe In You (Ballad Version) - I really like this song as a ballad. It sounds very melodic
ACT 7: Black Versus White - Kylie is dressed as an 18th century coachman while her dancers are also dressed in black & white.
20. On A Night Like This - starts out as an Overture, Kylie's pianist playing the piano while the dancers are dancing the waltz, and next we see Kylie!
21. Your Disco Needs You - it's good to see that she resurrected this song from when she did Showgirls Greatest Hits Tour.
22. Kids - Kylie sings this with her background vocalists.
23. Step Back In Time - starts off acapella and then becomes remixed with a color theme!
24. In My Arms
ACT 8: Encore
25. No More Rain
26. The One (Freemasons Mix)
27. Love At First Sight (Ruff & Jam US Mix)
28. I Should Be So Lucky - a nice way to end the show!
Overall, this is her best tour to date!! Anyone that's a fan of Minogue's and loves the X album will really appreciate this show!

Westlife: The Number Ones Tour (2005) Review

Westlife: The Number Ones Tour (2005)
Average Reviews:

Four guys from Ireland who really know how to sing!! That is what you get with WESTLIFE. It is really too bad that the U.S. hasn't embraced them.
This concert shows just what they can do. They sing wonderfully, they dance and they connect with their audience. They have been selling out concerts all over Europe and Asia for the last seven years. Shane Filan is the lead, Mark Feehily sings the high parts and Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan are great with the harmonies.
If you can find this DVD, buy it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be readily available in NTSC format at a price comparable to that in Europe, so the U.S. buyers can enjoy it, as easily as those in Europe. This is really a shame.
