What most sources don't tell the customer is that this CD comes with a DVD of all of JJ's videos from the last three CD's (janet., Velvet Rope, and All For You (a.k.a. The Virgin Years)). This is a great CD, but it is edited, and Would You Mind is off the track listing. But in place of those are remixes of Son of a Gun, which are decent (the original is the best). The part of this collection that makes it worth the money is the DVD. It's Great! Most people have been waiting for JJ's videos in one place for a long time, and this is the closest anyone will most likely get for a while, and at the moment, it's close enough. Just being able to see the "if" full-length video was nice, but then the other 18 videos make it a complete collection (obviously excluding the video's from the 80's). If you're a fan, or just like Janet, then this is a wonderful purchase.

Let me preface this by saying that this is Janet's best album since The Velvet Rope. And I genuinely mean that. And no offense to those three albums in between...I'm not downing them. Discipline is just better. All in all, this is a great album. Though I must admit that I AM a bit biased, I can't imagine why any level-headed "reviewer" here on Amazon would brand this CD as being one or two stars out of five. I'm guessing that most of this is spawned from the media and how it likes to give off the impression that Janet has no career to speak of. Which is sad, in my opinion because obviously these type people haven't experienced Janet at her finest. She's consistently put out great music...moreso than any other artist I can think of off the top of my head. Another thing I've noticed alot frequently is that Janet gets criticised for her "overly sexual" lyrics. Why is it that R. Kelly (along with other "aging" male R&B acts) can get away with nothing but praise when all they talk about on a single album is what Janet gets slammed for doing on two out of fourteen tracks? When Janet resorts to singing about "Booty Meat" (see Soulja Boy) then, by all means, flame away. But, as for now, kindly recognize that Janet is as dignified, strong, enduring, and strangely innocent today as she was when she was 20 YO.

Overall Grade: B+
Feedback: one of the albums best tracks is also it's first single. A straight-up dance song (and currently #3 on the US Dance Charts) this is pretty different than anything I've heard from Janet....which is good. In fact, the space age instrumentals sound like something that Kayne would gravitate towards. One of my favorites. B+
Luv: Another dance-oriented track and one of the more mainstream tracks on Discipline, this is actually better than Feedback in my opinion. It's hard to imagine any fan of modern pop music turning their back on this song. A
Rollercoaster: Very strange song for Miss Jackson. Sounds one part African-inspired, one-part modern dance, and one-part something else all together. As you can see, this is a very hard song to describe with my minimal writing abilities. But the word bizarre comes to mind. B+
Rock With U: NOT a cover of her brother's single. This track (the second single) is definitely a "chill" song. Futuristic, robotic, and sexy like a shiny, sleek, expensive car. A definite house-type song, destined to be heard in the clubs. Luv it. A.
2nite: A guilty pleasure of mine for sure...sounds like something Janet would've did in the eighties with Control. Not amazing, but it sure is danceable. Very fitting for the album. B-
Can't B Good: Possibly my favorite song from Discipline. I loved this song thirty seconds into hearing it for the first time. It's reminiscent of the "janet." era, for sure and another "chill" song. Reminds me of "The Body That Loves You" coupled with a modern hip hop beat. Amazing. Bordering on A+...not quite there, though.
Never Letchu Go: I can see why a lot of people would like this...but in all honesty, it's not for me. Very nineties...I can see Boyz 2 Men performing this. For me, the Japanese Bonus track "Let Me Know" would've been a better addition than this. Nice beat, though. C
Greatest X: VERY mainstream. Had this been a single, it would've reached a wide audience. Listening to this makes me picture a couple dancing cheek to cheek at their high school prom. Nice chorus, but the song really takes off more near the end. "Greatest X" has been compared by one music critic to One Republics "Apologize." Worth a few listens. If you didn't like it at first, it will surely grow on you. B
So Much Betta: The album goes back into dance tracks with this. It's a nice song, known for samplind Daft Punk. Not really much I can think to say about it. Janet's robot maid/assistant/whatever, Kyoko does the chorus. Interesting, short, and sweet, if not a tad repetetive. B-
The 1: Believe it or not, I used to hate this, but I must say that this is growing on me in a big way. It sounds like one of the better tracks from 20 y.o. And Missy Elliot might just catch you off guard with her opening rap. Watch for Janet to be flamed for the "seven inches" lyric as she was for Feedback's "period" one. B
What's Ur Name: Sweet, dreamy instrumentals and an all-around decent song. Kinda follows the trend of "good, not great songs" from the second part of this album, but it's still something worth hearing. I'm sure It'll grow on me. This is the closest thing resembling filler that you'll hear on this album. C
Discipline: Janet's already gotten some heat for the lyrics on this one. Not one of the albums stellar tracks, but very interesting and memorable. Memorable for it's sensual lyrics and S&M themes. Overall, though, it's very nice and smooth. C+
Curtains: Sexy is the first song that comes to mind. Sexy instrumentals, sexy lyrics, and, as always, sexy vocals from Janet. Another one that had to grow on me though. A nice closing song for an album that could've been The Velvet Rope part 2 had the second half been as strong as it's first. B+
4 stars for the album, 1 for it simply being Janet. :)

"A PASSION FOR DISCIPLINE" by Janet "It's the idea that unifies the songs on this record. As a concept, and even a lifestyle, discipline goes extremely deep. It can be applied to so much about ourselves. In my case,I see it as one of defining aspects of my character. Discipline was there for me from the start. But it was not until this record that I began to understand its full meaning. "In putting Discipline out front -- as both the title of the album and title of a song about sexual surrender -- I wanted to announce that I was venturing into new creative waters. That meant working with producers like Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, and Ne-Yo, whose songs spoke to the immediacy of my emotions. Like all my records, this one, whether intentional or not, has autobiographical roots. It's difficult for me to work any other way. I don't feel it, if I don't believe it, I can't sing it. "So Discipline, as a storyline, begins in my childhood which someone could see as a classic study in discipline. Discipline was part of a family culture that I absorbed. I was born with it. "I also believe that discipline has given me the confidence to jump out of the nest. When L.A. Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam, and I discussed co-executive producing this record, we both agreed that the feeling had to adventuresome and fresh. I was interested in exploring musical scenarios--some exotic, many erotic, but all deeply emotional. "I wanted to push the envelope. And I'm glad that Discipline, both as a song and an album, does just that." "Deluxe Edition includes the same CD as the regular edition, plus a DVD."

I know some of you are going to say it's just plain sacrilegious but hey, just because everybody jumps into the lake.... "Thriller" is a great album with great tracks and because of a variety of fortunate reasons e.g. timeliness, MTV etc, has become the biggest selling album of all-time but that doesn't mean that everything else that MJ comes up with later that doesn't sell as much is crap.
In fact, this is the album when MJ's weirdness first became pretty obvious. "Hey! Is that really Michael on the cover?" was my reaction as well but I chose to look beyond the looks and not to judge the book by the cover and just listened to the tunes. Some of my favourite MJ songs ever are on this disc.
"The Way You Make Me Feel" is an MJ classic and clearly among his top 5 ever songs. "Smooth Criminal" was always a great track even before Alien Ant Farm showed us why, "Liberian Girl" and "Man in the Mirror" are also great tracks and the rest of the tracks cannot be called album filler by any stretch of the imagination.
The sound quality of this special edition has also been remastered to near perfection and the bonus interviews and tracks are a real bonus to fans. This album grows on you over time and for me has aged a lot better than "Thriller" has. Maybe I've heard "Thriller" too many times but give me a choice between the two if I had to put one of them on the cd player, I'd choose "Bad" any time and if not "Off the Wall" before I'd reach for "Thriller."
Get over the Wacko Jacko hangup and just judge the cd for the tracks if you can and then you'll see just how great this album really is. This very well remastered and special edition is very highly recommended.

Okay, I'm not gonna waste time on Disc 1 because it's a collection of hits and favorites that any Michael Fan is well enough familiar with. So let's just skip right to Disc Two.
Scream-Truly the most Dance Oriented song on the album, but a rare occasion in which we get Brother to Sister love, and anger, both shouting about injustice. A Great song, a great video. And great beginning.
They Don't Care About Us-A powerful song really. Great beat, Some later versions are censored because of some alleged "anti-semetic" lyrics. Put it doesn't hurt the song. Michael's anger somewhat begins here. Another great video.
Stranger in Moscow-A beautiful ballad. By far one of Michael's best. Haunting to the Extreme with a chorus that could bring a tear to your eye. "How does it feel when you're alone and it's cold inside?" A beautiful music video.
This Time Around-I like this song. Has a good beat to it. A tad self-indulgent, but I'd say he's earned it. Great Rap bridge by the Notorius B.I.G.
Earth Song-One of his most powerful ballads to date. Most of us have seen the video, so we know Michael is true to his subject matter. Michael hits it hard on this song, worthy of buying the album just for this one.
D.S.-Who is Dom Sheldom? And why is Michael so angry at him? This isn't a bad song, but it's the one I listen to the least.
Money-Powerful lyrics. Although Michael doesn't sing a whole lot. More of a spoken word, but good none the less. Still Michael a bit angry in this one.
Come Together-This one is alot of fun really. Shows his funk-rock side with this cover of the old Beatles song. Truly verges on remaking it better than the original.
You Are Not Alone-How many awards did this one win? Too many to count. This song, written by R. Kelly, shows off the passion he still has for a love ballad. Very artistic video with his ex-wife Lisa Marie-Presley.
Childhood-Some may call this song sappy, not me, it's beautiful. In our own ways I think most all of us could relate to this song. Poetic lyrics, well orchestrated instrumentals, and the video has a quite an interesting original concept to it.
Tabloid Junkie-A song with a strong message more people need to pay attention to. Not to mention having to do with Michael's more recent past at that time being a victim of the Tabloid Junkies.
2 Bad-This song has a cool beat, and it's a good dance song. The only part I don't really enjoy is Shaq rapping in the middle. Who the hell ever said that Shaq could rap? He couldn't wrap cheese in a taco!! At least the parts with Michael are cool.
HIStory-More of an anthem than a song. But amazing none the less. Using quotes and recorded speeches from pinical moments in History. Proving Michael respects many people, and is inspired by greatness, causing him greatness as well.
Little Susie-If he ever decides to stop being a pop singer, this song shows proof he could compose music for movies and seriously win OSCARS for it. It's sad, haunting, beautiful. A great direction for Michael.
Smile-I can't think of a better way to end this record. This track, which is a tribute and dedication to one of Michael's heroes, Charlie Chaplin. You can't help but smile I think when you listen to this track, because it's so beautiful, and Michael whistling at the end gives off the most lovely example of Michael's playful side.
A wonderful CD, truly worthy of all good credit. His most mature and artistic album to date. Get one for yourself, you won't regret it.

So, I've been waiting for a new Janet collection for awhile, so when she announced "Number Ones", I was super excited. I was even happier when she announced the official track listing. I thought, except for the exclusion of "You Want This", it was perfect. And when I got the CD, it even exceeded my expectations. The remastering is superb! You hear it as soon as you put in the first CD and hear the very beginning of "What Have You Done For Me Lately". It really stands out on the first disc, especially songs like "When I Think Of You", "Let's Wait Awhile", and "Love Will Never Do (Without You)".
Another thing I like is the rare tracks, or at least rare versions. Thankfully they included the Single Remix of "Let's Wait Awhile" unlike on "Decade". Another great inclusion is the video mix of "All For You", which includes the dance break and was originally only available on the CD Single. I DO wish they would have just used the single edit for "Any Time, Any Place" instead of the R. Kelly Remix, which it didn't even say it was. Another 'false labeling' is the fact that it said "Janet feat. BLACKstreet" on "I Get Lonely", but was actually the solo album/radio edit instead. I like the solo version better, but I hate that they put one thing and it says another.
Overall, I would suggest this collection to major fans, minor fans, and everyone in between. It covers her past 23 years of music so well.

This is Janet so of course I had to give this 5 stars and its worth it. If you saw the concert you know its amazing. If you haven't read on. The concert starts off with janet running around the beach and under the waterfall topless and then she enters the stage fully clothed, amazing how does she do it. She plays the songs "If, That's the way love goes, All for you", and more of the classics and the new ones but nothing compares to the stage performance of "Would you mind". She has way out done her performance of "Rope Burn". In "Would you mind" she of course gets a guy out the audience and she puts him on this table specially made for a person that moves around and that's all I can tell you about it. The features are even better. It has a photo gallery, rehearsel, and a series of performances of "Would you mind" around the United States. The only bad thing I have about the DVD is that the crowd in Hawaii were not as wild as the New York crowd. The crowd had their burst of excitement but not full shouting like the New York crowd. The DVD is worth the money, the concert also last way over 2 hours long.
