(More customer reviews)I was literally floored by this DVD. I was expecting mostly a video collection with some extras, but imagine my surprise when the 'extras' such as the megamix of remixes end up making this one of my favorite music DVDs ever.
The videos themselves are nice, with a number of them not before seen in the US (the European ones look like they were made on a smaller budget, but are still good fun to watch). Having the videos for songs like Honey and the original "audition" Bodyrock treatment are a blast. The live songs are amazingly well produced, and it's fun to see Moby with full backup band in tow. He even throws in 'go' and 'new dawn fades' from older releases. The video and sound quality for these segments is really topnotch.
But my favorite part of the DVD, by far, is the megamix of the various 'play' remixes, with new tripped-out visuals to accompany the songs. It's actually quite engrossing. Some of the visuals are your standard G-Force trippy screensaver type deals, but others are wildly imaginative and quite arresting. The remixes are also great in their own right, giving the original songs wildly different interpretations. The 20-minute camcorder bit in Moby's studio is fun, but not exactly arresting.
This DVD instantly jumps into the company of the Criterion Beastie Boys collection and the 'Everything, Everything' DVD from underworld. The megamix part of the disc alone would justify the purchase price.

(More customer reviews)Armin has done it again. If your are expecting a crazy, uptempo, and hardcore trance CD, you won't find it on this CD by Armin. Altough this CD still has some amazing non-vocal upbeat trance in the first and last track, the rest of the CD is vocal trance. And it is simply amazing. It is one of those CDs you do not have to change tracks or fastforward, just let it play. Armin shows his briliance and versatility on this CD and he proves why he is the #1 DJ and producer in the world.

(More customer reviews)Ric Ocasek doesn't like to tour. Todd Rundgren had some bills to pay and he always liked the Car's music. I really don't care what his reasons were for joining Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes, as long as it sounded good. I think it bothered me more when Easton played with CCR revisited, but it was the only way that CCR fans could hear their songs live at the time and somehow they sounded good without lead guitarist/singer John Fogerty.
I only have two complaints to make about this CD. First, Kasim Sultan is a good singer, but his voice sounds too pretty on "Drive" and it makes it sound like an Air Supply ditty. Second, they could have covered other Rundgren songs better adapted to the Car's sound like "Forget all About It" or "Couldn't I Just Tell You". The new song, "Not Tonight," is a perfect mesh of the original Cars style and Rungren's music, mainly because it sounds like it could have been released on one of his solo albums too.

(More customer reviews)Enough with the negative reviews on this cd. It's too different for the hardcore fans, etc., etc. It's too much like Christina Aguilera or Britany Spears, which is inaccurrate. You know, there was a time when a female artist could jump genres of music and receive accolades instead of dismissals. Olivia Newton-John, Tina Turner, Cher, Madonna, Annie Lennox, Sinead O'Connor--all were able to shift gears musically, and to me that's a sign of talent, not selling out. Sure, Jewel is finely airbrushed on the cover, the titles are written like Prince tunes (U & Me= Love, Run 2 U, Yes U Can), and the songs are polished to fine pop bliss. I, for one, find this cd to be one of Jewel's finest. She forgoes all the pseudo-serious folk preaching and gets down to business with a cd filled with upbeat tracks instead of her serious ballads. However, she is still writing about serious topics such as social issues in "Stand" and "America" along with other familiar themes of love such as "Run 2 U", "Fragile Heart" and "2 Become 1". She also deals with letting go and trying new things such as the first single "Intuition", which probably flew over most Jewel fans' heads. She even deals with lust on "Sweet Temptation", "U & Me= Love" and "Yes U Can". In fact, there are a number of hits on this disc: "Stand", "Run 2 U", "Intuition", "Leave The Lights On", "2 Find U", "Fragile Heart", "Sweet Temptation", "Yes U Can", "America" & "Becoming". The only true miss is the overlong "Haunted", which seemed out of place. This new direction is great--a breath of fresh air for Jewel. She sounds like she's having fun and the music represents that spirit. Too many reviewers are taking this cd too seriously. This could be Jewel's "Thriller" or "Hysteria" or "No Jacket Required". If you're looking for intelligent pop (which Aguilera and Spears are not), then pick this up (also if you like the 80's).

(More customer reviews)"Under the Covers" is a solid album covering '60s and '70s pop tunes. Sweet and Hoffs have the talent and production chops to put together convincing remakes of some well known songsand some exciting obscurities. Mostly it works well, although Sweet should never again attempt early-period Beach Boys (he just can't sing up there effectively). The album is more a celebration of Sweet and Hoff's great taste (and Sweet's guitar prowess) than an album with anything urgent or fresh to say. It's a pleasant listen and a good way of getting lots of great tunes in one place. But it doesn't really do anything all that innovative or moving.

"The Girls a straight up Hustler" is the cds stand out song followed by Coffee Shop Soundtrack. Running From Lions is a beautifully written song and u will sing along for days. Their writing style is a mix between poetic, melodic, dramatic and straight up in your face choruses. Buy this cd today, its so worth the money. they will be the new favorite punk band of the future.

(More customer reviews)when it comes to listening to music i try to avoid comparing the bands new cd to their previous ones. with tbs, this is hard. "tell all your friends" is without a doubt a classic album and is the best in this genre of music. there's no denying that. then nolan left the band and tbs changed its lineup and "where you want to be" was the result. despite the different vocalist and sound, i thought "WYWTB" was a excellent record and was close to "TAYF" but not quite.
now comes april 25 and "louder now" is released and upon first listen, there's no doubt that TBS have progressed as a band. whether their progression is a positive or a negative, i don't know. that's up to the listener. i myself love when bands think outside the box and evolve and keep doing so for each record they put out (i.e. saves the day). although they're initial sound with "TAYF" is no longer present i can't help to enjoy their progression and the fact that they finally made a rock record.
like my review title says, they have unleashed the guitars and the whole feel to the album is just more rock. yes, tbs is the definition of emo and there's alot of emotion here, but as for the musicianship it's just a lot better than their previous two. there's actually guitar solos in half the songs. true, they signed to major label warner bros so i think this rock transition is appropriate. i hate when people accuse bands of selling out. i admit that i hate when bands sign for the money and not for the right reason which is to reach out to more people. but unless the band says they did it for the money, don't accuse them for it! just let it go and sit back and enjoy the great record they created which is "louder now"
for fans deciding whether they will like this, you will. if you're a true tbs fan you'll definitely appreciate this album. if you're a trendy emo kid and you would live and/or die for their first record, you might want to preview first. half the songs are trademark tbs but the other half are experimental and even kind of dark with extra emphasis on the guitars. lyric quality is close to their last album (not any where as good as TAYF) and the songs are catchier then ever with unbelievable hooks.
standouts are "what's it feel like to be a ghost", "make damn sure", "miami", and "my blue heaven". the whole cd is solid and this will be in the top 5 of 2006. definitely recommended.

(More customer reviews)I finally got this DVD and watched it to bring in the New Year. I had read many of the Amazon reviews and was expecting it to be sub-par in quality. So I was surprised at how incredible this DVD was.
Most of the negative comments were based either on the setlist, the spacey jams, or the camera shots (ie: not enough Herb.)
Setlist- In my opinion, many of Primus' albums are kinda weak except for a handfull of songs (except Frizzle Fry whic is stellar from end-to-end), so this DVD was a near perfect song mix. Pachyderm, American Life, Rapskallion, Mud, Jerry...it was almost a compilation of all my favorites, followed by one of my all-time favorite albums.
Jams- The spacey jams are cool as hell. If I wanted 3-minute pop songs I would listen to NSYNC or some other horrific band. Primus lets these songs ebb and flow, build and break in a really tight fashion. The band imterplay is great. They are tight as hell, and yet there's still alot of improv going on. This is pretty rare in today's music as most bands are either tight and polished, or improv-jam oriented. Primus is probably the best combination of both. And then there's the boys incredible playing. Les is not only amazing as a bass player, but a totally compelling front man. Larry is a perfect compliment on guitar: shredding at times, and otherwise just losing himself in the groove. Herb is the solid and quirky base that holds them together. Anyone who says these guys are "mailing it in" is not watching the same band I just saw. These guys are passionate in every note.
What I REALLY don't understand is all the gripes about the camera-work. This video UNLIKE MOST, which are just a collage of closeups that jump perspective every 2 seconds, actually did a great job of capturing the live performance. The cameras stayed back and let us watch the projection screens, and the amazing lights, as well as letting us see the band as a whole. I think this is much nicer than endless closeups of peoples hands.
This is an absolute must-own for a Primus fan. Die-hard Primus snobs can complain about minutae ad nauseum, but for all the rest of us, this DVD is almost everything we could ask for.

Life on the Murder Scene Review

(More customer reviews)I can honestly say this CD/DVD set captured my attention from beginning to end. The Video Diary chronicles the history of My Chemical Romance from their humble beginnings to the world famous group they now are. The story is told through their own words and the words of those who know them best. It is an honest documentary that deals with their struggles including the alcoholism and drug use of lead singer Gerard Way. He overcame his additions giving hope to many young people. It is refreshing to see talented musicians who stay true to themselves and their music while deeply caring for their fans. Also included are the videos from "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". Two videos for the song "I'm Not Okay (I Promise). One is the video normally seen and the other is a video which is great because if gives up a glimpse into the homelife of the Way brothers at the time. However, not only do you get the videos you also get the "Making of the Videos". It is so interesting to see just how much work and thought goes into making these videos. On the DVD you can also find TV Appearances and Online Performances all of which are full of energy that the band is so well known for. The CD has 11 live performances which are excellent and there is even a previously unreleased jewel titled "Desert Song" which is hauntingly beautiful. "My Chemical Romance Life on the Murder Scene" is a must for any MCR fan but I believe is a a must for any music fan
