Finally, this great concert is released on dvd. I have the vhs and I've played it to death. This concert never gets old or boring. I put it on so I can listen to it while doing housework but I always end up sitting and watching it or just dancing all around the house. It's a joy to hear a real musician play real music instead of all that sampled stuff that's out today.
There is no lip synching or canned music here. Phil and the band give an all out performance. So much so that you can see how tired he is as the show is coming to an end and he sits down on stage to finish his last song. You don't want to miss the drum duet by Phil and Chester. It's one of the high points in the concert. This dvd is a must have even if you've never heard of Phil Collins.
The only quibble I have is the performance of "You can't hurry Love". I can do without it but you may love it. Even so, it's great to hear an artist that sounds as good out of the studio as he does in the studio. While Phil is no Mario Lanza, he can sing and he has good pitch. As I stated earlier, he and his band are a bunch of real musicians. The sound quailty is excellent. I was shocked at how good it sounded through my stereo. Sometimes, live concerts can sound a bit fuzzy. The camera work is excellent as well. Editing is smooth and captures the feel and the excitement of being there. You'll feel like you were there.
Please treat yourself to this dvd. It ROCKS!!!

Born To Run: 30th Anniversary 3-Disc Set (CD/2DVD) Review

Born To Run: 30th Anniversary 3-Disc Set (CD/2DVD)

Born To Run is the album that took Bruce Springsteen from a struggling recording artist who was almost dropped by his label to simultaneous covers of Time & Newsweek. All the hype surrounding the album is justified as it is a brilliant collection of songs. From the opening harmonica on "Thunder Road" to the closing of the mini-opera "Jungleland", Bruce tells us about Wendy, Terry, Mary, The Magic Rat & Barefoot girl and we hear their stories. Most of the songs deal with escaping one's dull and dreary life for something better. The means of escape are the highways and backstreets. "Born To Run" is an all time classic and I get chills up my spine every time I hear the opening riffs. "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" tells of the origins of the E Street Band. "Meeting Across The River" is underrated and when Bruce played it on his recent tour, it got huge applauses. The production has a big sound to it. On some songs it sounds like a hundred instruments are playing. Bruce wanted a Phil Spector Wall of Sound feel and the album achieves that goal. Jon Landau, his future manager, said after seeing Bruce in concert in 1974 that "he just saw the future of rock 'n' roll". Born To Run helped fulfill that prophecy. Finally, Sony offers a remastered version of the album which one of first to be released on cd in the late 80's. The sound quality is superb and the big sound of the album comes through beautifully. It would have been enough to just have a remastered cd, but this set ups the ante with two DVDs. The first is a full concert from the Hammersmith Odeon in London and it shows a skinny, bearded Boss showing off why his live shows from that era are legendary. The second DVD is a documentary detailing the making of the album and it contains all the key players including Ernest "Boom" Carter who drummed on the title track as well as an integral part of the early E Street Band, keyboardist David Sancious. On top of all that, you get a great booklet that contains unreleased photos. It would be great if Sony takes this approach with other albums in Mr. Springsteen's catalog as this treatment is long overdue for an artist of his stature.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall (2007) Review

OK OK While I'd like to say I'm a huge Dave fan, I will admit that unlike some of the people that will buy this CD, I only have been to 6 concerts and own 10-12 CDs including 5 live discs.
To most people that is a lot, but to Dave Matthew addicts that might not. I know that there are some people so obsessed that they probably have all 54 or so albums (90% of them live) that have been released.
That being said I have to say that this album in my opinion is well deserving of a 5 star rating for the following reasons:
a) Sound Quality - 5 stars. The sound quality is perfect. Just enough crowd and the band is captured well. Not to much voice not too much band. Perfect.
b) Song Selection - 5 Stars. A Few old songs a few classics, some Lillywhite stuff, but plenty of newer stuff. I also own the Live Trax Fenway album that has 4 cds. I mean I love Dave, but 4 discs is too many. Dave plays so many songs I realize it's tough to pare down a weekend of concerts into one CD, and that is why this disc gets 5 stars. Perfect paring. And yes there are some new tracks on here as well!
c) Performance - 4.5 stars - Comparing this disc to the Luther College Tim Reynolds disc is tough since that was the standard, but despite Tim not shining as bright as he did on that album he still adds plenty to this disc as would be expected. Also I notice that it seems like everyone kind of brings their A game. Not sure if it's Tims presence or what but it is definitely noticeable. And yes there's a little Dave speak, but overall very good. And did I hear a piano in there...
d) Value - 5 stars - Amazon has this for $11.99 that is great for a new release live disc from DMB that contains a couple new songs, but more importantly new live versions of recent songs. I mean if people are comparing this to Live at Luther College from 7-8 years ago then you know it's worth the $.
Overall this CD is great. My favorite still remains the Red Rocks two disc. For the simple fact that at the time it was awesome. It is still good, despite the fact that having heard all those songs played over and over in so many live versions has made it lose its luster. However as a new release live disc, I don't think there's a two disc release from that Dave to date that was greeted with so much widespread enjoyment as that albums was way back in 1997.

It's worth the price, if you buy it under $10 that is. Over, then no. It's about 40 minutes long. She shows you the stage, her band and crew members. We get a walk through the Fly video and her Most Wanted tour. Though the Fly video is played during the show, you can select it on the menu to, which saves much time. Her best video out yet, with sparkling effects and the whole thing comes together great. You get to see lots of Hilary interviews, which is great. And even provides background music from Metamorphisis and her new album as well. If you wait until after the credits, there is a trailer for Raise Your Voice dvd, just says it's coming out, no specific date yet. Overall, I say it is a worthy purchase for any Hilary Duff fan. She is so cute and we actually get to hear her sing Fly for a bit, and when I say sing, I mean it. Real live vocals, showing that the Girl Can Rock dvd can be proved to be dubbed vocals, even though I already knew they were, now I have proof. She DOES sing live and that's great to know. Definitely get this, despite the lack of additional features, it is so worth your time to get into her life a bit, she even shows you her dressers and a lot of her clothes. She is amazing and keeps stunning us with all this stuff. She is great on camera and I look forward to seeing more of her in the future. GO HILARY!!

The King of Pop does it again with HIStory on Film: Vol. 2! Below is a summary of each video/peformance:
TEASER- This commercial for the HIStory album is just as extravagant as one of Michael's music videos. Featuring Michael himself amidst thousands of soldiers, you can't go wrong with this. AWESOME!
BILLIE JEAN (Performance from Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, and Forever)- This shocking performance earned Michael Jackson an Emmy nomination and started the Moonwalking craze that lives on today. CLASSIC!
BEAT IT- This video, which was also featured on HIStory: Video Greatest Hits Vol. 1, is a classic from THRILLER. Featuring real gang members and stunning choreography, this video is a must-have!
LIBERIAN GIRL- This video from BAD is VERY rare. I did not know it even existed before I bought this tape. Features cameos from Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Glover, and even Bubbles!
SMOOTH CRIMINAL- There are many versions of this music video, but the one on this tape is probably the best. Probably the best choreography of any of Michael's videos. INDISPENSIBLE!
1995 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS PERFORMANCE- A showstopping performance! This is a 15-minute medly with Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, The Way You Make Me Feel, Scream, Beat It, Black Or White, Billie Jean, Dangerous, Smooth Criminal, and You Are Not Alone. One of the most memorable performances in MTV's HIStory!
THRILLER- The music video of all music videos. The masterpiece. Zombies... Werewolves... Vincent Price... What more could you ask for? Directed by John Landis(An American Werewolf in London) this video is heralded by many as the greatest music video of all time!
SCREAM (Vocal duet with Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson)- The video that shocked the world in 1995. With a monstrous $7 million budget and great special effects, this video is one of my favorites. The first and only duet with Michael and Janet, this video was worth every cent.
CHILDHOOD (Theme from Free Willy 2)- One of Michael's most earnest and honest songs. This video makes you wonder what it would be like to be a child for just one more day. GREAT!
YOU ARE NOT ALONE- Another great video, this was the first song ever to debut on the charts at number one. Featuring Lisa Marie Presley and Michael together in the video, this is an instant classic!
EARTH SONG- One of Michael Jackson's most powerful video and song EVER! This video was actually filmed in four different continents, and the people in the video are not professional actors but actually people of that region. This video is one of my personal favorites, for it is so powerful.
THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US- A great song and video with awesome percussion. This video was banned from MTV and VH1 because of the contreversy surrounding the lyrics. Directed by Spike Lee.
STRANGER IN MOSCOW- An awesome song with a simple yet great concept video. It is just people walking in the rain, but when you see the video, it is so much more.
BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR (Refugee Camp Mix)- This video shows Michael dancing in a club with friends. Although the video is nothing too special, the song is GREAT! AWESOME!
BRACE YOURSELF: A KALIEDESCOPE OF MICHAEL JACKSON HISTORY- Featured on the first HIStory video, this shows glimpses of Michael in concert and elsewhere.
With this video coupled with HIStory: Video Greatest Hits Vol. 1 you have just about all of Michael Jackson's best videos and performances. ALL HAIL THE KING OF POP!
Look for Michael Jackson's new album INVINCIBLE to be released in the USA on October 30 and internationally on October 29. So what're you waiting for?
