I'm one so I did...
This thing is four hours long and some of it is pretty hard to take.
We see Dylan impersonator Joel Gilbert traipsing about the country apparently also attempting to impersonate a journalist. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
The use of primitive and amateurish graphic effects during the interviews is unbelievably annoying. A yellow rubber ducky swims across the screen quacking to illuminate Reuben Carter's comment that he took to boxing "like a duck takes to water". When he mentions that boxing was a profession for which he was paid, hundred dollar bills flash before our eyes. As Gilbert asks Carter the deep question "what percentage of boxing is psychology?" the image of Sigmund Freud appears and disappears.
Enough already! And at this point we are only a few minutes into this four hour marathon.
Those true diehards who are able to keep on keeping on are eventually rewarded with some interesting perspectives. Claudia Levy describes theatrical aspects and the staging of the Rolling Thunder concerts. Scarlet Rivera shares in her own words the oft repeated story of Dylan discovering her as she was walking down a Manhattan street with nothing to distinguish her but her violin case and her exotic appearance. Rob Stoner talks about his role maintaining order in the recording studio and on tour...
But it is the interviews from the period of Dylan's conversion to Christianity and its aftermath that are most interesting. Vineyard Christian Fellowship pastor Bill Dwyer describes Dylan as a student in his Bible study class. San Francisco Chronicle writer Joel Selvin characterizes the betrayal felt by many fans blindsided by the Christian content of the 1979 tour. Legendary producer Jerry Wexler speaks to the musical excellence of Slow Train Coming. And back up singer Regina McCrary resonates as she gives glory to the presence of the Holy Spirit in the middle of it all.
Too bad that at the end we must put up with the blather of self proclaimed Dylanologist AJ Weberman. The inclusion of the opinions of Weberman, who made it his business to sift through Dylan's garbage in the Village in the early 70's, adds nothing of value and certainly underscores that this is, in fact, a "totally unauthorized documentary".

The World Is Yours (Limited Edition) Review

I may be in the minority that thinks that Kiss of Death (2006) was awful but other than that, even at their most mediocre Motorhead have been jolly good. In their now 35 years of rocking and rolling, Motorhead have released several stone cold classic albums. The last of these being Inferno, in my view... until now. The World is Yours might be the best Motorhead album in 15 or 20 years and there is some mighty competition in that time period (1916, Bastards, Overnight Sensation, Inferno). It's ultimately pointless trying to decide whether it tops those classic albums, it is simply another great Motorhead album and, to me anyway, a legitimate return to form. Returning to form is something Motorhead are accused of every 4 to 5 years or so, whenever the media decide that it's time to give them some credit again.
The great thing about the World is Yours is incredibly catchy. Motorhead haven't sounded this melodic since Bastards. Almost every song has a killer chorus. What is also noticable is that the music is predominantly on the rock n roll side of the fence with the more heavy metal leanings eschewed somewhat. Lemmy will rarely acknowledge that Motorhead play heavy metal but although based in rock n roll roots, Motorhead have cetainly had an equal portion of heavy metal thrown into the mix in the Mikkey Dee days. Not so much on this record. Maybe Born to Lose and certainly Brotherhood of Man (very much like Orgasmatron) are metal but the rest is pure dirty rock n roll with great melodies.

I always like to think that there are 8 essential Motorhead albums from throughout their career. Albums that truly represent the cream of their studio output. These albums also conveniently cover all the line ups which itself is testament to the band's quality. They are Overkill, Ace of Spades, Another Perfect Day, Orgasmatron, 1916, Bastards, Overnight Sensation and Inferno. The World is Yours is getting added to that list.

(More customer reviews)Alf was the Beatles chauffeur, and so experienced the Beatles day-to-day as few did. But his stories are VERY minor stories, generally, and they often don't have much of a pay-off. But if you're a Beatles freak, as I am, even the most incidental anecdotes are of interest. He tells of trivial moments, and he is a rather shy man, which is actually rather refreshing, because most people you see on camera are overly slick. There aren't any great Beatles clips...a few here and there. It shows a clip of Paul at a solo-show, mentioning to the audience that Alf is in the audience, that is fun to see. And Alf relates when the Beatles once stole four bottles of milk! Also he gives details about when the Beatles met Elvis (Alf was there). And while most Beatles fans have seen the Beatles homes/hang outs in photos, to see them on video gives you a better sense of what they look like. This is a modest effort, but its modesty is part of its charm.
