I may be in the minority that thinks that Kiss of Death (2006) was awful but other than that, even at their most mediocre Motorhead have been jolly good. In their now 35 years of rocking and rolling, Motorhead have released several stone cold classic albums. The last of these being Inferno, in my view... until now. The World is Yours might be the best Motorhead album in 15 or 20 years and there is some mighty competition in that time period (1916, Bastards, Overnight Sensation, Inferno). It's ultimately pointless trying to decide whether it tops those classic albums, it is simply another great Motorhead album and, to me anyway, a legitimate return to form. Returning to form is something Motorhead are accused of every 4 to 5 years or so, whenever the media decide that it's time to give them some credit again.
The great thing about the World is Yours is incredibly catchy. Motorhead haven't sounded this melodic since Bastards. Almost every song has a killer chorus. What is also noticable is that the music is predominantly on the rock n roll side of the fence with the more heavy metal leanings eschewed somewhat. Lemmy will rarely acknowledge that Motorhead play heavy metal but although based in rock n roll roots, Motorhead have cetainly had an equal portion of heavy metal thrown into the mix in the Mikkey Dee days. Not so much on this record. Maybe Born to Lose and certainly Brotherhood of Man (very much like Orgasmatron) are metal but the rest is pure dirty rock n roll with great melodies.

I always like to think that there are 8 essential Motorhead albums from throughout their career. Albums that truly represent the cream of their studio output. These albums also conveniently cover all the line ups which itself is testament to the band's quality. They are Overkill, Ace of Spades, Another Perfect Day, Orgasmatron, 1916, Bastards, Overnight Sensation and Inferno. The World is Yours is getting added to that list.

Motorizer Review

(More customer reviews)Lemmy must have been into heavy doses of the Ramones while recording this album, because his love for the band is quite evident throughout "Motorizer". In fact there is a fast paced, "punk" rock vibe to many of the songs here in the "Goin' To Brazil" & "R.A.M.O.N.E.S" vein. "Rock Out" does exactly what it promises and then some. Mickey Dee's drumming propels the album from start to finish without pause (no slowed down ballads here). Dee is arguably the best drummer in rock/metal and he proves it here. And friggin' Phil, the man never ceases to amaze me; his playing just keeps getting better. Phil takes his own chops, blends in a wee-wee bit of Chuck Berry, a heavy dose of Thin Lizzy era Brian Robertson (Phil's wah wah pedal tone is killer on this album) and consequently churns out guitar solos and fills that are short, sweet and very wicked. Then you have Lemmy.....'nuff said. I am a longtime fan dating back to the vinyl days. I would hesitate to put "Motorizer" up there with classics like "Overkill" and "Ace Of Spades", but it is darn close.
A great place to start for a newcomer to the band and a definite "add to cart" for current Motorhead fans.

Like the band themselves have stated: A kick ass motherf#cking record definitely one of the wider ranged Motörhead records ever released . The album was produced by Cameron Webb and the recording took place at Sage & Sound and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl s 606 studios in Los Angeles. Motörhead is embarking on a full-scale US tour together with Heaven & Hell and Judas Priest, already being hailed as the tour of the year`.

(More customer reviews)The speil I usually give to people who turn their nose up at me when I announce my rabid Hawkwind fandom (people, by the way, who've usually never even heard any of their music) is that Neil from "The Young Ones" TV show ruined Hawkwind for an entire generation. By lumping them in with lily-livered lightweights like Genesis and by tainting them with strong hippie associations, everyone assumes they're either horrendously indulgent prog-rock, or embarrassingly dated peace-&-love musings. Hawkwind never were either.
Hawkwind, at their peak, as on '73's live "Space Ritual" double LP, were an air-tight rock'n'roll demolition unit who combined the best of trancey psychedelia and buttocks-scorching rock'n'roll. If you have the remotist interest in Krautrock or the pre-Punk school of high-energy rock a la MC5/Stooges/Pink Fairies/Deviants, then you need this in your collection.
From Dik's crazy synth whoops and bleeps thru to the sublime sci-fi spoken-word babble right up to the apocalyptic "Orgone Accumulator" (almost 10 minutes of pure sonic fist-shaking bliss), this is an album for both rock'n'roll purists and avant-prog geeks alike (I fall somewhere between the two).
Whilst nothing can compare to the original vinyl version with its fancy fold-out cover, this CD version is almost as good as it contains bonus tracks and a very well put together booklet with new photos, graphics and liner notes. Unlike many other reissues, it's nice to know that someone at the label actually put some care into it.
If you must know, everyone from Jello Biafra to John Lydon has sung the praises of this set, so do the done thing and get on it.
