I think this album is average for me. I only bought this to get the bonus dvd! but, the album got its moments with tracks like "already home", "Empire State of mind", "D.O.A.". am I the only person who isn't feeling "run this town" track?
about the DVD, its only 30mins long and it shows Jigga in his private jet and he is being interviewed while playing pocker. he explains his Blueprints and what motivated him from the 1st to this. Honestly, the interview is good and while he's been inteviewed, you can see the behind the scene of DOA video and clips of live shows.
I was expecting more from the DVD though.

Pure fluffy pop from start to finish and I loved every minute of it. I considered rating this 4 stars because of the inevitable comparison to Life in Cartoon Motion. That comparison lowers things a little. The two albums have a very similar feel and any song from either album could easily fit on the other. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, especially if you like the upbeat feel Mika's music has, but I can't help feeling that I bought Life in Cartoon Motion a second time. However, I decided to rate it 5 stars on the merit of two songs: Good Gone Girl and One Foot Boy. The former is different enough to liven things up a bit, it almost has a little bit of a hip-hop feel to it. The latter is just plain fun. It seems like a depressing topic, a boy with one foot, but Mika makes a light upbeat tune out of it.
There was only one song on this album that I dislike (and I dislike it immensely): Toy Boy. It feels like, I dunno... polka-pop. That's as terrible as it sounds. Every other song easily reaches the standard set by his debut album and I doubt anyone who liked that will regret buying The Boy Who Knew Too Much. So, buy it! Love it!As a note of interest, the song Blue Eyes was included which was originally released as part of the Songs for Sorrow EP. So, if you want the other songs from Songs for Sorrow as well, you might be better off just purchasing the other two singles (Lady Jane - a good song and Lonely Alcoholic - one of my favorites) as an mp3 download.

Freedom (Tour Edition) (CD + DVD) Review

Freedom (Tour Edition) (CD + DVD)

Akon has grown with each new album release, while his sound has evolved to the satisfaction and dissatisfaction of his fans, Freedom will no doubt be remembered as the turning point in Akon's career where he evolves from a hip hop artist to a bonafide entertainer.
Freedom does not contain the harsh or explicit lyrics found in "I Still Kill" or the infamous "I Want to **** You" Instead the album is filled with sounds familiar to "Put the Blame on Me" which was lyrically powered rather than over the top production.
That does not mean there are no upbeat club hits on this album, Troublemaker and Beautiful will keep everyone on the dance floor moving. Akon's previous love ballad "Don't Matter" is replaced with a lyrically driven "Be With You" that possess a crisper production that will no doubt lead to some slower sensual dance moves when the DJ decides to spin the track.
The released singles Right Now and I'm So Paid are great but are drastically different. Freedom plays with this contrast in sound by providing many catchy radio friendly songs that are subtly different but possess deeper lyrics than found in past Akon albums.
With all the radio friendly songs you'll find yourself humming to many of these songs during the day, therefore, making it buy you won't regret this holiday season.

When The World Comes Down (Australian Tour Edition) Review

When The World Comes Down (Australian Tour Edition)

With this year being packed with so many big artists and groups releasing mediocre music, I was more than relieved to find that the All-American Rejects and 'When the World Comes Down' was one of the few exceptions. This album is great. In many ways, I think this release is more on level with their first release which was very pop-rock orientated with great vocals that only this group seems to be able to pull off. The strength in this release is that each song stands on its own, creating an album that is actually worth buying for every track rather than just one or two. There's a great spread of songs and styles on this release, great vocals, harmonizing and an all-around fun album.
"Damn Girl", "Gives You Hell", "Back To Me" are stand-out tracks because they're mostly upbeat and unlike many alternative/rock bands these days, the lyrics, vocals and instrument backings don't clash with one another. There really aren't any tracks worth skipping and the release leaves you wanting more and even puts a smile on your face. I'm hesitant to say 'When the World Comes Down' is the group's best album yet but it comes pretty close. This was more engaging and better produced than their last album 'Move Along' and offers a little bit (style wise) for everyone. Buy this release -- it's well worth the money and one of the best to come out this year.

Producer Eric Valentine sits behind the console in his Barefoot Studios control room and imparts his bohemian brilliance. On the soundstage beyond the wall are The All-American Rejects. Welcome to the womb of creation where minds meld, riffs congeal, voices carry, lives alter, skin sheds and a modern rock Multi-Platinum success story swing, swing for the fences. But for The All- American Rejects, the road to When the World Comes Down, their third long form musical offering, has been anything but a straight line.

I purchased this CD as an import a couple of months ago and have been enjoying it ever since. The remixes are a fun change from the original album versions. Originally bought it mainly for the remixes, but the acoustic stuff (non-album tracks) have really grown on me and I enjoy listening to the entire cd straight through. If you are a fan of Katy Perry, you'll probably want to get this CD if you can find it.

MTV Unplugged (CD & DVD) Review

MTV Unplugged (CD and DVD)
Average Reviews:

Katy Perry's Unplugged album came slightly out of left-field. Hardly anybody would expect a radio friendly pop star such as Perry to go ahead and release and album of her hits acoustically, in the classic Mtv Unplugged format. However, that is what she has done, and the results showcase the young singer/songwriter as a girl whose raw talent and ear for music has sadly been overshadowed by her over-the-top personality and outfits.
Her voice and stage presence are impressive, and her cover of Fountains of Wayne's "Hackensack" and her jazzed-up version of "I Kissed a Girl" are the stand-outs on the album. Particularly the latter, which turns the bragging party anthem into something of a darker, worrisome take on Katy's uncertainties with her sexuality. Whether this was deliberate or not is purely in the mind of the listener, and Perry obviously is content with just sitting back and letting her fans sort out the pieces.
Regardless, this album stands as a testament to a young artist's talent and well-deserved place in the American pop music lexicon. Give it a listen. Highly Recommended!

Lisa Mitchell is just great.
Her first two Ep's "Welcome To The Afternoon" & "Said One To The Other" both had some amazing tracks on them, but as with most EP's, were lacking a little maturity and experience.
Now with the release of her debut full length album, all those mistakes are fixed. The maturity is there and the songs are crafted perfectly which show her experience.
Now this album is not perfect, one or two of the songs are a little un interesting but the majority are just fantastic. Favourites are: "Neapolitan Dreams, Coin Laundry, Pirouette, Oh Hark"
Well worth the money.

The Hotel Cafe Presents...Winter Songs Review

Each of the songs on this album reflect the style of the various singers, and there are a few standouts. Fiona Apple's version of Frosty, Sara Bareilles does a lovely job with hers, and Silver Bells is a full-throated, gorgeous rendition. In fact, all of the songs are well done with one glaring exception: Katy Perry. Her rendition of White Christmas makes me think that she was either drunk while recording, or deliberately mocking the song. Really unlistenable. It's a pity that such the one track would be so jarringly off-key in the midst of a very good mix.

I AM WORLD TOUR Review

I AM WORLD TOUR

I recently attended an exclusive screening of the "I Am... World Tour" in New York City, and let me tell you - it made my YEAR. Not only does the film capture some of the greatest performances of her career, but it also shows intimate behind-the-scenes footage woven into the concert! From the second Beyoncé's concert began, both the London crowd and even us were cheering louder than ever. It seems strange... we treated it like an actual concert. Well, Beyoncé did tell us to when she went on stage just before the screening. Enough of the screening, let's get to the actual film!
Beyoncé gives us her all in this film. Perhaps the true highlights of the concert are the performances of "Crazy in Love" (which had a special appearance from Jay-Z), "Smash into You," "Broken-Hearted Girl," "Ave Maria"... I could list the entire set-list, but that wouldn't be much of a review, would it? In terms of her performance I give a 100 out of 10! :P
As for the editing and all that good stuff, it was also fantastic. Sure, things got a little grainy at times, but what do you expect to see when a camera zooms in? There was also a lot of times I asked myself, "Is Beyoncé the only one on stage?" I'd like to have seen more of her band, dancers, and background singers performing. A perfect example of this was during "Crazy in Love." Just before the song ends, Beyoncé and her dancers do a heavy routine. I just found it strange how we could only see Beyoncé's FACE as she moved.
One other aspect of editing I want to point out is the cuts after pretty much each performance. Beyoncé isn't faster than the speed of light. It takes her time, like anyone else, to change clothing. The instances where her band does solo performances, as well as the Mamas, have been cut. Of course, there are clips from her personal life during these cuts, and I actually attended the concert, so you really shouldn't notice.
I know it seems like I'm talking more about the negative, but I'd be writing a novel if I mentioned all the good... no, GREAT in this film.
All in all, I give the film HIGHER than a perfect score. Editing, maybe a four and fifteen-sixteenths out of five. I don't actually own the DVD, but the main concert itself is all you need for this thing to sell. I'll probably add more to this review once I actually get my hands on the release, but for now, this will do. If the CD, bonus features, and booklet are anything like the film, I'm definitely sold! :D
"If you're having a damn, good time, say 'yeah!'" ~ Beyoncé, "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)"
