(More customer reviews)Nice Going Amazon!!!.In the frequent Amazon.com tradition of either listing music video DVD titles without the name of the artist or listing the artist without listing the program title,Amazon lists "Pet Shop Boys(2004)".What is this program? Well,,I was able to confirm(by comparing the "ASIN" number with the Pet Shop Boys DVD's listed on Amazon's Canadian site,and by ordering & receiving the program though one of the Amazon Marketplace merchants),that this disc is the new expanded EMI/Canada DVD of "Pet Shop Boys-Performance",a 1991 concert program,now with 5.1 surround sound(Dolby Digital or DTS) & Dolby Digital Stereo,plus an artist commentary track,previously unreleased rehearsal footage & a still photo gallery.Fortunately,the song publishing dispute which forced the removal of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" from the medley with "Where The Streets Have No Name" on the original VHS & Laserdisc releases has now been resolved,and the medley is now presented complete.(on the VHS & Laserdiscs,the lead vocal was mixed out during "Can't Take My Eyes Off You",leaving only the chord changes & background vocal "Ooohs",a sort of Karaoke version!).Song line-up is:This Must Be The Place I Waited Years to Leave","It's a Sin","Losing My Mind","What Have I Done To Deserve This","My October Symphony",I'm Not Scared","We All Feel Better in The Dark","So Sorry I Said","So Hard","Opportunities(Let's Make Lots of Money)","How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously?","Rent","Where The Streets Have No Name(Can't Take My Eyes Off You)","West End Girls","Jealousy","Always on My Mind","Your Funny Uncle"

Pet Shop Boys - Somewhere Review

Instead of touring, the Pet Shop Boys held concerts for 3 weeks at the Savoy Theatre in London's west end.
This program begins with a behind-the-scenes documentary. You can watch PSB practice and get prepared for the show. There are great interviews and interaction between the boys.
Then, the concert begins. It is FABULOUS. If you like the Pet Shop Boys, or any electronic music, you'll really enjoy this concert. They play great songs from many of their albums, while avoiding the worn out hits.
This concert is more simple than their "Performance" concert, which had too much going on for my taste. There is a very clever stage setup, and use of big screens that are marvelous. (I won't let the cat out of the bag on what they do with the screens.) Neil's vocals are great - the concert is perfect!
There is the documentary, then the following songs: Yesterday When I Was Mad, Truck Driver and his Mate, Se a Vida é, Hallo Spaceboy, To Step Aside, Go West, The Theatre, It's a Sin/I Will Survive, Discoteca, Can You Forgive Her?, Somewhere, Rent, Being Boring, Left to my Own Devices.
I highly suggest you order this DVD. It is so cheap! If you're a fan, I know you'll buy it. If you're not very familiar with PSB, this will introduce you to the boys, and give you a chance to see them at their best.

(More customer reviews)As a huge roy fan for several yrs now, i have bought each and every album he has put out to date. This one is not one of his better ones and by the looks of it ole' Roy might be coming to the end of the line. Its not that he isnt still the best prankster out there, I guess its just that he has done it all and is running out of ideas. The first 7 albums were mostly pranks on phil and brents friends....then the friends of their friends. Then he progressed on to "yankees" ( city people), which i thought was one of the best in its own way. On this one the title is somewhat decieving. You het the idea it is all foriegn calls but in actuality there is only about 5 calls to other countries: france, italy, spain, and amsterdam and scotland. The rest are his usual local calls here in the states.
It turns out his typical redneck calls to people here in the states are the funniest calls. The foreign calls just are not that funny considering most of the people cant even understand him very well. Thats not to say they are all bad...there are some really funny moments when he purposely says places and things wrong and asks for outrageous requests: as in asking to rent out the Rome Colouseum for his tractor pull and asking to ride his own bull on the bull run in Spain.
As I said, the domestic calls are the best here....there are a few real standouts. Swamp thing, Broken Bed are very funny and paint job is the best on the CD. I guess what bothers me is that this CD has little 30 second intros before each call. it just seems like they were using them as filler and are really unessessary. There is one of his little skit Fishin Reports(which I hate) and an answering machine skit at the end which is funny but I just dont like his skits.
All in all, Roy doesnt change his style and that doesnt bother me at all. Ya never can get sick of his style and voice. Just his voice alone makes ya crack up. If your a fan of Roy then i recommend this Cd. If you have not heard him yet then i advise starting from the beginning and progressing to this one. This one wont hook ya like his earlier ones would...

(More customer reviews)Longtime fans of Stephen Lynch know that the strength of his work isn't in slick production values or complex musical arrangements, but instead comes from the delivery and content of his outrageously funny lyrics. Unfortunately, his newest album puts far more emphasis on studio-grade musical accompaniment than it does on making the listener laugh in startled amusement.
"3 Balloons" is a solid collection of musical comedy that is wholly listenable, yet fails to rise to the level of Mr. Lynch's previous albums on the funny-meter. I don't regret buying it, but I find myself oddly satisfied and disappointed by the result after years of waiting for a new album from him. Hopefully the new material will shine when played live -- there's a reason that virtually all comedy (stand-up) albums are recorded live these days, and "3 Balloons" is a good example of how studio-manufactured comedy can fall flat.

(More customer reviews)"Linkin Park: Frat Party at the Pankake Festival" is a rock music lover's dream DVD. This DVD has so much stuff on it that it will take repeated viewings to take it all in. The features include: A Making of the "In The End" music video (one of the funniest making of's I have ever seen), some of the art that Mike and Joe drew for movies (Joe drew something for the flop Sphere), a look at Chester's tattoos , weblink, a section that allows you to hear some unreleased material from LP like a bluegrass country version of "Crawling" (a pretty funny sounding remake), High Voltage Remix, and the sad and sorrowful My December. The main part of this DVD is the movie "Frat Party at the Pankake Festival", a very funny look at life on tour with Linkin Park. The movie features the music videos for "Papercut", "One Step Closer", "Crawling", "Crawling" Live with multi-angles, "Points of Authority" Live, and the newly released "In The End" video. The band seems like some pretty cool guys that like to joke around while making their music. Chester, Joe and Mike are the most funniest musicians ever. Buy this movie and you sure won't regret it. There is no strong graphic language, but some pretty crude stuff. If you are not a Linkin Park fan then don't (I repeat) don't buy this DVD. Another great thing is that the movie is presented in a 1.85:1 widescreen presentation. The sad thing is there is no 5.1 soundtrack only a good sounding Dolby 2.0 soundtrack, but still worth it. Just buy the DVD and hit the helpful button below.

How to Be a Megastar Live (DVD with CD) (2008) Review

(More customer reviews)The Blue Man Group return to their rock concert experience in their latest DVD, captured during their "How to Be a Megastar 2.0" tour. If you already own "The Complex" much of this material will be familiar as it nearly the same format as the group's previous rock concert tour. That's not necessarily a bad thing. As in "The Complex," "How to Be a Megastar" opens with "Above," which if you've seen/heard from "The Complex" you know is simply an amazing song. The concert presentation is exciting, with a screen obscuring the stage and only shadows of the Blue Men projected on the screen as, one by one, each takes to their PVC instruments to begin the melody, with a swirling of images of the band and the Blue Men as the song launches into guitar, drums, keyboards, bass, and percussion in an explosive cresendo. Awesome. The remainder of "How to Be a Megastar" essentially follows the same progression as "The Complex" with some new material and new rock conert movements. The premise of the tour is the Blue Men have purchased an "updated" rock concert experience manual from an infomercial and are incoporating the new material into the show. The band is amazing, as it was before in "The Complex." I miss the guest vocals of Tracy Bonham and Annette Strean of Venus Hum. Annette was gorgeous and belted out an exciting cover of "I Feel Love" in her unique style in "The Complex" and is replaced on the current tour with a new vocalist. She's fine, but it's hard to follow in the footsteps of Annette and Tracy.
Bonus material includes a music video for "I Feel Love"; a piece of comedy called "Mono Makes a Plea -- Save the TVs" campaign (bemoaning the switch to digital signals which will effect us all...) and finally, and perhaps most importantly, a documentary called "Inside the Tube." It features the founders of Blue Man (Phil Stanton, Chris Wink and Matt Goldman) as they discuss the group, the philosophy of the Blue Man and the evolution of Blue Man from a theatrical presentation to the rock concert experience of "The Complex." It's a fascinating insight; Stanton, Wink and Goldman are extremely intelligent and creative individuals with a lot of passion for what they do. As far as I know the documentary aired only on PBS during a fund raising drive, with the documentary being sold as an incentive gift for new PBS members. If my memory is correct the documentary was being sold for a $75 contribution; now you can watch it for free!
If you already own "The Complex" and are on the fence about purchasing "How to Be a Megastar," I would suggest it primarily for the documentary included in the DVD extras. The DVD also includes a CD version of the concert, so for less than $20 you're getting a DVD and audio CD; a great deal. If you are new to Blue Man I would recommend starting with "Blue Man Group - The Complex Rock Tour Live" to see what you think. I think you will enjoy it.

Bo Burnham (CD/DVD) Review

(More customer reviews)When I watched Bo's first YouTube vid over two years ago and laughed like hyenas on nitrous oxide, with tears in my eyes, I turned to my wife and perdicted this kid will be famous. Unfortunately I'm not prophetic, Bo's just an exceptional talent who's acclaim and fame is well deserved. The material on this album is worth more than five stars. The intelligent and clever lyrics mixed with showmanship and contempt of politically correctness results in brilliance; hence the five stars.
What I find disappointing with this release, is the lack of studio tracks. The overwhelming majority of the tracks are live recordings from a Tempe Improv performance. I was at that show, and I'm not suggesting the performance wasn't great. Rather, the mix quality is sub-par, and not exceptionally better than some of Bo's bedroom recordings. If all the tracks had been studio recordings or had the live mix been as polished as the existing studio tracks, this release would have been a full win.

(More customer reviews)This man is funny, there is no doubt about it. I love him. However, after just purchasing this DVD and his "I'm Starving" DVD, I feel like I've been taken. If you purchase any of his DVD's, purchase "I'm Starving." You will get over an hour full of great side splitting laughs and it has almost the exact same content of "I Say Nay Nay" plus the material on "I"m Starving." It's like John came back from Broadway and refined his act and made it better. Had I known that "I'm Starving" contained the same content as the other, I would only have purchased it.

True Stories I Made Up Review

(More customer reviews)Being offensive and raunchy is all-too-often an easy target for most up-coming comics. If you can't think of a good joke, then insult someone and some people are bound to laugh. Daniel Tosh, in this CD/DVD combo, does say much that is offensive, insulting, crude, gross and vicious. But, if this is believable, his comedy isn't just malicious. It's smart.
His jokes rarely follow any kind of predictable formula, and as a result, some people might find them as weird and bizarre as they are dirty and foul-mouthed. Really, though, he demonstrates a nimbleness of humor when he goes off on one of his tumble-down rants. As he says, "I like to do a joke that everybody likes and then keep taking it farther and farther until nobody has a clue what I'm talking about." It's true that you might end up confused more than once, but you'll still be laughing.
The only thing this set has against it, as others have said, is its brevity. It's normal for any good entertainer to leave you wanting more, but Tosh leaves you wanting almost TOO much more. The CD barely clocks in at 50 minutes and the DVD is about 30. Still, this is made up for by the fact that Daniel's crude complexity and incisive gibes are imminently listenable. A rarity for most comedy CD/DVDs, this one withstands multiple replays and then some.
Detractors of this set (and Daniel Tosh, in general) have accused him of being derivative and low-brow, racist and demeaning. It's very easy to look at any kind of medium, be it music, movies, or comedy, and call it a mimicry or "rip-off" of something that came before. You could pick any entertainer and trace their lineage all the way back to the days of Euripedes if you want to be a stickler about it. And those people who are offended or "hurt" by Daniel's humor aren't listening closely enough; true, he takes a lot of shots below the belt, but let's put it this way: he doesn't discriminate against crotches. Everyone (from whites to blacks, from women to men, from intellectuals to morons) is up for grabs. If you want equal respect for all people, Daniel wants equal disrespect, and he petitions for it with finely-tuned hilarity and cinder block wit.
