(More customer reviews)Melodic and relevant, the Pet Shop Boys have created a musical landscape of city living, including the greatest techno-country song ever, You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk. This cd has a definite night-time vibe to it: urban, lonely, and sometimes hopeless, and but with just the right comnbination of irony and hope to reassure us that it could all work out. Also included is a shockingly good duet with Kylie Minogue, which had me checking the liner notes to see who she was. It will never happen, but one hopes that this record will finally allow the Pet Shop Boys to be recognized for what they are: revolutionary, contemporary artsists who have been making masterful records for their subculture for almost fifteen years. But you know what, forget the recognition of the massess, we night walkers would rather keep them for ourselves...

Who said that only Victoria Secret models could wear wings? Andy Bell of Erasure sure doesn't think that wings are just for lingerie models. You don't want to miss The Erasure Show Live In Cologne. Andy Bell opens the show wearing wings and Erasure's back up singers get in on the act too.
The Erasure Show Live In Cologne is a 27 song set that opens up with the groups cover of the lullaby "Rock-A-Bye-Baby." The concert is really great and Erasure provides fans with a really long set list with numerous costume chances. It's a very theatrical concert. If you haven't followed the group since the 80's you may not recognize a lot of the newer material on the DVD but you will probably enjoy these songs if you liked the kind of songs Erasure released in the 1980's.
In addition to the concert, The Erasure Show Live in Cologne features 149 minutes of bonus material. The DVD features three live performances from Live in Copenhagen, a 2003 concert. The performances on the dvd are for the songs, "In My Arms," "Make Me Smile," and "Piano Song." Additional bonus features include "Making of Live in Cologne," "Interview With Andy and Vince," "The Live in Cologne Time Lapse," and three promotional videos from Nightbird. The videos included are for the songs "Breathe," "Don't Say You Love Me," and "All This Time Still Falling Out Of Love."
This is a great DVD for the Erasure fan. A lot of effort was put into the release of The Erasure Show Live In Cologne. It's much more than just a concert film. It's a great show. I admit I am a very casual Erasure fan and am primarily familiar with their big 80's hits like "Chains of Love," and "Respect" but I was pleased with this release.

Lara Fabian Review

(More customer reviews)The first time I heard "I Will Love Again" on the radio, I thought the voice was that of Celine Dion. Then, a few months later, I saw a singer named Lara Fabian belting out that song, along with "Adagio" on The Donny and Marie Show. The strength of her fiery live performance made me realize that I had to purchase her CD and give the album a listen. To be completly objective, the songs on the album are somewhat mediocre, lyrically and also in terms of production, which leans too closely to Celine-esque power pop. The album is dominated by ballads that showcase the power of Fabian's voice (which almost always is pushed to it's fullest emotive capabilities), but the dance songs, if refreshing, don't seem quite as convincing. Simply put, if these songs were performed by a lesser singer, they'd be bland. But Fabian is no lesser singer, and it is in fact her ablitiy to transcend the material and provide emotional nuances that saves the songs. Her gritty interpretation of "To Love Again" is a highlight, as is her tender rendring of "Broken Vow" and "Love By Grace." Fabian provides maximum emotional drama on both the English and Italian versions of "Adagio," and the 2nd track, "Part of Me" is delivered nicely, featuring a memorable piano and saxaphone musical background that allow Fabian's voice to provide the necessary power to move the song forward. All in all, this is a good English-language debut by a singer who deserves to be listened to on her own terms. Here's hoping the future will bring some more exciting musical risks on her part, but for now, Fabian's self-titled disc is a good, solid introduction to a powerful vocalist.

I love how Kylie puts on a great show AND sings live!! She's a great all-around performer!
Even though I love the previous concert DVD "Fever 2002", I do like how in this one she does more audience interaction, like talking to them and really connecting with them. I thought that was cool.

When compared to the recent DVD/cable television extravaganzas mounted by Madonna, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears, the Aussie powerhouse emerges as the clear winner. Madonna looks so deadly serious onstage, the effect is not unlike watching a storm trooper in drag going through rather fey combat moves. Janet is only slightly more animated, and can barely manage to keep her breath as she attempts to sing live to her synchronized dance moves. Britney...well, give the girl time. However, the almost complete lack of live vocals (except on the ballads--where the full extent of her producers' talents are plainly [and painfully] audible) is inexcusable.
Kylie, on the other hand, sings live for her entire, exhilirating, nearly 2 hour show, and sings WELL--it can't be easy to maintain your breath control while bouncing around in six-inch kitten heels, yet the diminuative diva manages to carry it off brilliantly. She also is having FUN onstage, and that sense of joy and carefree exuberance carries over to the audience.
The main strength in the Minogue camp (emphasis on "camp") is Kylie's refusal to take herself, or her stardom, too seriously. Oh, there's no doubting that Kylie is a true, blazing, God-given Star; she has charisma, talent, beauty and charm to spare. But her genuine niceness, not to mention her fondness for keeping her tongue firmly in cheek, are breaths of fresh air when confronted with "serious artists" like Madonna, or assembly-line, mass-market popsters like Britney.
From the 1940's-musical-style opener ("Love Boat") to the kitschily fabulous encore ("Spinning Around"), Kylie's energy level never drops once. Highlights abound: a bright, spangly rendition of her 1989 classic "Hand on Your Heart"; a full-steam-ahead Greatest Hits medley that has the audience practically panting at her feet; a brilliant, twisted-cabaret arrangement of her anthem, "Better the Devil You Know"; an unbelievably erotic take on the Olivia Newton-John ditty, "Physical"; a pumping, sexually-charged "Butterfly"; and the aforementioned "Spinning Around" finale.
Another key to Kylie's success: despite her bare midriffs, low-rise leather jeans, tush-grazing hot pants and stilleto heels, she never comes across as sleazy or even overtly sexual; she really may just be the most gosh-darndest nice pop star on the planet (and it's evident that her dancers and band adore her), as well as the most non-threatening.
The DVD comes with some nice extras: backstage peeks at the show, which highlight the cheeky humor of both Kylie herself, and her tour crew. It makes sense: to put on such a lighthearted, fun show, you need to surround yourself with lighthearted, fun people.
This is, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable contemporary pop concerts available. Buy it! Kylie delivers.

Kylie Minogue - Fever 2002 (Live in Manchester) (2002) Review

(More customer reviews)During the first half of 2002, Kylie Minogue toured Europe and Australia. This DVD captures it. Live In Manchester is a good concert that explores Kylie's musical catalog rather well from her days as a manufactured pop tart princess to her current status as icon and electro-pop diva.
The concert occurs in seven different acts meant to display Kylie in some of the different manifestaions she has adopted throughout her career. Cultural references are everywhere in this concert. There's a nod to Keith Haring, and many others from Staney Kubrick, burlesque, and sci-fi flicks. It's all hard to catch, but done very well.
Kylie's dancers have a strange look that coincides with the videos from her 'Fever' album. William Baker, her creative director, came up with the ideas for the concert. My only advice is that he should have hired a better choreographer because the dance moves are repetitive at times.
The music is the best thing (isn't that what should be best?) It ranges from latin, hip-hop, trance, euro-pop, funk, to the oddball. Some of her songs recieve heavy reinvention. Her older hits from her days as the 'Loco-Motion' girl are brought into the 21st century and the songs from her artistic, but commercial failure "Impossible Princess" bring an element of darkness to an otherwise frothy, but stylish show. In a great moment, Kylie references Donna Summer incorporating 'I Feel Love' into 'Light Years', songs that are very close cousins.
Kylie's voice sounds great. A definite improvement from her earlier days.
The documentary on this DVD is a fun piece of info about the concert although it was originally cut down from an hour to half an hour.
I don't recommend this to a fan who has only bought the 'Fever' album. The lack of knowledge of the other songs might confuse them. This disc is one for the fans who have been with her for a long time and know the history of this lovely Aussie.

(More customer reviews)i pre ordered this cd when i first heard about it on the Kylie forums. i love love love the greg kurstin remix of cant get you out of my head. another great song that should have made it to the final cut is Magnetic Electric. this song it's just fantastic just like cherry bomb and ruffle my feathers. i would recomend this cd to all of kylie fans cuz theyl enjoy the new song and the remixes
