(More customer reviews)Many people simply do not understand why this album is so good. Let me break it down. After leaving Motown (Last Album there was Moving Violation -- which was excellent by the way), Jacksons moved over to Epic. Had 2 good albums, "The Jacksons" & "Going Places". Both were not big sellers. Then they hit paydirt with this one. This Album, I believe was released during their 10 year in show business. This had the funkiness that had always been in the Jacksons, but because of the bubble gum tunes that they had previously recorded, there true potential never came out.
"The Things I Do For You" -- Hey, who hasn't been there, you know you have been tired of someone who hasn't appreciated what you do. This is another groovin side.
"Blame it on the Boogie" makes you want to dance, but for those of us who REALLY REMEMBER -- (PRE "THRILLER" or "VICTORY") The Jacksons were some serious brothers. 10 foot afros, serious sequined jumpsuits, spins, dips, the woodpecker dance(Leg bent, bent over, head moving like a woodpecker, arm pointing straight out...this same move is recreated in the new movie with "Remember the Titans" with Denzel Washington, those of us who remember our roots do know about all of this). "Shake your Body Down To The Ground" is the song EVERYONE danced to ---Grandma, Uncle Billy, Cousin Jeff, Ned the wino, Miss Jane up the block, y'all know what I'm talking about. Hell everyone wanted to be the Jacksons! Even the Osmonds ripped them off when their barbershop quartet gig wasn't working!
If you really want to remember Black America as it was back in the day, community, family reunions, block parties, and loving you some Jacksons, get this Album. And really listen to the song "Destiny". It's a song that I think really captures what was in Michael's heart at the time. Reminiscence y'all.

2008 digitally remastered and expanded Legacy Edition of this album from the R&B legends formerly known as The Jackson 5 (their defectionto CBS left Jermaine and their old name behind with the Motown empire). Includes two bonus tracks. On this 1978 album, The Jacksons were turned loose to write and produce themselves, and the result is their best studio album ever. The dance tracks like 'Blame It On The Boogie' and the hit 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)' still sound fresh while the ballads are heartfelt and smooth. The album peaked at#3 on the Billboard albums chart in 1979. 10 tracks.--This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

The music the lyrics everything about this particular Album rocked then as it does now. The MOTOR BOOTY AFFAIR was not just well done it was funny without being over the top vulgar. Unlike today's in your face nasty lyrics this was sexual tinted situations with good natured fun thrown in. This was music back when artists knew how to say just enough in a song to inspire your inner freak to take over and fill in ALL the blanks. Trust me the fantasies most people's inner PFUNK Freak create are far more kinky, graphic and strange than the stuff you hear detailed in todays music.
I loved the PSYHOALPHADISCOBETABIOAQUADOOLOOP! Parliament just blows most other music away. Just add George Duke's Dukey Stick and Bootsy Collins Bootzilla (Worlds Only Rhinestone Rock Star Doll Baby Bubba: JUST Wind Me UP!) and you would have a really large funk party. If you like this Motor Booty Affair music For its Fun P-Funkability look also at Parliament's: Tales From The Black Hole... Where Sir Nose and The Star Child have their great battle... It too is halarious.
You will enjoy this if you like PFUNK because you can't do much better feeding your PFunk JONES than buying The Motor Booty Affair. This collection of Exceptionally PFine PFunk is Especially good if you like hanging out with a Mouse Named JAWS or trading water signs with a meirmaid named Rita! If you are really lucky Motor Booty Affair PFUNK will teach you how to swim under water without getting wet! Just Ask Sir Nose De Void Of FUNK he learned How to do that very thing! I told you this album is funny buy it you will hear Exactly what I mean.

Brother to Brother Review

(More customer reviews)My first taste of Gino Vannelli was the top 40 minor hit Powerful People which was on a lot of jukeboxes in the mid-70s, but it wasn't until Brother To Brother was issued that Vannelli really came to my attention.
This is one of those albums that every artist hopes to make, virtually flawless from beginning to end. Brother to Brother didn't hit me at once, I Just Wanna Stop was the song that received the most airplay as it fit in commercially with the kind of stuff that was being played on the radio at that time and was a song I didn't really care for. But you could hear the promise of Vannelli's music in the song; its tightness, its harmonies, and its positive vibes. So I bought Brother to Brother on vinyl and liked it more every time I played it.
My vinyl is in mothballs and I have been building a CD collection both of new music and the best of what I have on LP, so I recently purchased Brother To Brother on CD. Wow!! Its every bit as powerful and enjoyable now as when I first heard it. The music is uplifting, romantic, and soulful. With the exception of I Just Wanna Stop (which STILL sounds commercial), every song is a gem. Brother To Brother is a tour de force which belongs in every collection.

(More customer reviews)The long-awaited release of: "Egypt 1978" is over. Was it worth a 30 year wait? For me, yes it was, good or bad this package is an accurate document of a legendary event, The Grateful Dead playing right in front of The Great Pyramid and right next to The Sphinx. The 3 record set was due for release in early 1979, to help pay the 1/2 Million dollars of debt that this vacation cost the band. Jerry Garcia, wasn't happy with the tapes and the plan was canceled.
Over the years many tapes have circulated from audience and soundboard sources. I saw a lavish bootleg CD set at a record collector's show in 1996. This Box contained 8 Cd's, a hardshell book, a poster, stickers, the works. The vendor, wouldn't go under $80.00 for the package, and I passed on the deal. The tapes that I have heard, were high-quality sound and good to not-so-good performances by The Dead.
This set of two CD's {3, if you buy it from The Grateful Dead Website} and a DVD of 13 songs, and a short home movie of band and friends in Cairo, and on The Nile. This is a nice package, of an event of legendary proportions.
30 YEARS OF BAD VIBES:
The band didn't play well in Egypt, The equipment did weird things in the 110 degree heat, No: "Blues For Allah" performed, The amps melted together in the sun, The piano was outta tune, Billy could only drum with one arm, Donna was singing 'Flat' again, No hash was allowed to be smoked on stage, only behind the amps, No: "Dark Star" performed, not enough Stella Beer, after the crew stole all of it, The King's Chamber deep inside the Great Pyramid wasn't successful for use as an echo effect for the concerts, sand in equipment...ETC, ETC, ETC.
THE MUSIC:
After 30 years of rumors like that, you will have to be the judge of this package. The music here isn't better or worse than any other Live Dead CD's available already...It is DIFFERENT from other things, that you have already heard before. And that is the reason that it was released in the first place. The Grateful Dead plays DIFFERENTLY under a full eclipse of the moon next to the massive paws of The Sphinx than it does in Winterland back in San Francisco. Everything that makes this group special IS here, but on: "Rocking The Cradle" the music takes on new shapes and forms, textures and colors are unique to this recording.
"Ollin Arageed" featuring Hamza El Din and the Nubian Youth Choir, melts into a sparkling; "Fire On The Mountain". "New, New Minglewood Blues" features a wonderful solo from Keith on "Outta-Tune" piano, that lays waste to almost every other keyboard player anywhere. "Stella Blue" is a tune, that I have never payed much attention to, here on this CD, it is amazing! Some of this is lackluster, but I have found more GOOD than BAD here. A Grateful Dead Show contains peaks and valleys, there is serious detail to flow and dynamics within every concert, and when that doesn't work out...well, it doesn't work out all the time, such is LIFE.
THE FILMS:
The DVD contains 13 songs from the concerts, and a feature called; "The Vacation Tapes" of band, crew and friends in Cairo and on the Nile. These videos are not shot by a professional film crew and are of homemade quality {jerky camera movement, fuzzy & out-of-focus zoom-ins and outs, cameras way off target.} Had the band produced some video by a professional crew, the results could have been amazing, as is these curios are interesting and show a little insight into the world of The Grateful Dead. The DVD is interesting but not essential.
I Like this Set, and have been playing the CD's, in rotation with other GD music since it arrived at my door. I have less use for the DVD, but I will give it another try a few months down the road. The booklet is fine, and the package with the fold-outs, is nice as well. A book about this entire event is still available, it is entitled: "Truckin' With The Grateful Dead To Egypt" by Robert Nichols. This book was published in 1984 with the band's approval, it is an interesting read, and it includes many photos and graphics that I have never seen anywhere else.
This set of music and visuals is a welcome addition to the growing bulk of live performance work available from The Grateful Dead.
