is incredible. It sounds as good as a studio recording. And the audience is there in the mix, but ever so subtley... the cheering doesn't overpower the music. And the volume is so wonderful... i usually keep my headphones on level #9... with this CD, i have to keep it down on 6 or 7 as to not deafen myself. I've never heard such a good live recording... even other licensed ones put out by the artists themselves.
THE VARIATIONS ON THE MUSIC...
is wonderful. His inflections, his emotions, are clearly visible. It doesn't sound like a live version of the studio albums, but rather has an improvised feel - it sounds raw... but perfect.
THE ENERGY...
is out of this world. The crowd, the music, the vocals... everything is just so powerful. That's really the only way to describe this.
This is so far my favorite CD of 2002... and i don't see another one surpassing it for a while. Any NIN fan must have this... or it would be an awesome way to discover the band.

The Golden Age Of Grotesque Review

(More customer reviews)This is a new Manson for a new era. This is definitly not a repeat of his past albums. This has been the first time in a long time that Manson has had to make an album that could stand on it's own. After finally completing the story he created with Anti-Christ Superstar and finished with 2002's Holy Wood, Manson has a chance to explore new musical ground as well as reinvent his image a bit. Manson explores 1930's Berlin-esque era in his lyrics and appearance. Throwbacks to the Swing dancing sensation, Nazism, and Dadaism are littered throughout the confrontational ("Use your fist and not your mouth")and cynical, sexually-doused lyrics in this CD, which fit well with the music. The music itself is the usual Manson-esque rock mixed with a large dose of synth and other effects, probably due to new bassist Tim Skold, which completely helps the album in almost all areas. These effects do a very good job of envoking pictures to accompany the music. Sometimes one can't help but picture Tim Burton claymation-esque characters marching along to anthems like the title track and the intro Thaeter. The also setup moods for such songs like "(s)aint" and "The Bright Young Things", both of which are sure to surprise the listener (but none like the track "Doll-Dagga Buzz Buzz Ziggety-Zagg", which is a loud galloping example of Manson-meets 30's era swing music. A treat for the ears, definitely).
Manson succeeds in making a frightful, rambunctious, powerful and wonderful album that can definitely stand on it's own. However, one must remember that Manson is not taking himself as seriously this time, but is still very clever with his lyrics (probably now more than ever). All in all, this is one of Manson's best, and definitely worth buying.

(More customer reviews)this video was fantastic!!! manson must have spent a fortune getting all kinds of camera shots. let's see, what songs were on there...um...well, it starts out with some close-minded christians running around with their ridiculous signs in front of a manson concert. then it grinds right into 'angel with the scabbed wings'. the other songs on the tape are '1996', 'lunchbox', 'apple of sodom', 'sweet dreams', kinderfeld', 'antichrist superstar', 'the beautiful people' and i think that's about it. all of the concerts are filmed live from one of the 'dead to the world' tour stages. highlights: you get to see marilyn actually smile and laugh, you get to see twiggy give manson oral sex, ginger puts the end of a fork in his mouth and wiggles it back and forth, someone hits manson with a green popple on stage, manson takes a shower while fuming, twiggy pukes..twice!, some french prostitute takes her top off, manson swims naked in a pool, pogo throws a chair at a wall, twiggy falls down on stage and has to get helped back up, manson explains why he doesn't drink coffee and what made him resent christianity so early in life, up-close-and-personal with the devoted fans, The Slashers!
parts you shouldn't let your parents see: just about every backstage part. manson cuts himself during sweet dreams. manson does this cool crab-walk pelvic-thrust thingy during 'lunchbox'. manson humps the mike stand one time.
anyway, there's a lot of stuff on there that might offend the staunchest mansonite. but, once you get used to it, you can laugh at it.
all in all, i highly recommend it.
