Get the Party Started - Australia Review

This another hit from our favorite Pink haired celebrity. Written by Linda Perry, this is a great song for a party...
Track 01: Get the Party Started (Radio Mix) (3:12)- This is the one I heard on the radio. When the DJ said it was Pink, I couldn't believe my ears; she sounds so different from her first singles. The only difference I notice from the Radio Mix and the Album Version is that she says `end' instead of `a**,' for censoring purposes.
Track 02: Get the Party Started/Sweet Dreams featuring Redman (4:04)- What happens when Get the Party Started by Pink and Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These) by The Eurythmics are combined? This song, produced by Rockwilder, uses Pink's vocals from Get the Party Started and the melody from Sweet Dreams to make an unforgettable song. The Eurythmics weren't in it, for the vocals of Sweet Dreams, but Pink sings both songs. Pink's vocals were re-recorded for this mix, so the notes sounds different. Redman, the rapper, also make an appearance in this song too, for raps throughout the song. The song also features the highest note I ever heard Pink sing. A song everyone should listen to.
Track 03: Get the Party Started (Pink Noise Disco) (Radio Edit) (3:44)- A good disco version of Get the Party Started, not as good as Track 02 but worth listen to. Very uplifting and danceable. The only thing that could make this was if this was the 12" version instead of the radio edit, but what could you do?
Track 04: Get the Party Started (Instrumental) (3:14)- It's very weird just to hear the instruments of this song, but it's sounds good to hear each instrument, some that you don't even realize are there. But, I think the CD would've been better off without this.
Get the Party Started is a magnificent song for a pink haired girl we call, Pink. I recommend this CD to everyone, no matter what kind of music they like. Track 02 is definitely worth the money.

What America has needed for a long time now is a true female Rockstar. Well America, we have one now. This CD Rocks in a big way. As a huge fan of Linda Perry, and if anyone can tell me where I can get a copy of "After Hours" I would be grateful, "Waiting for Love" is my favorite track today. "Last to know" is awesome, but so are all the tracks here. "Trouble" is way cool, I love the video as well. "Oh My God", well it kicks A$$ too. Pink, you have a new true fan now! My hat's off to YOU.

Alecia Moore, where have you been? We took you home in 2000 with "Can’t Take me Home”, we totally understood you when you were "M!ssundaztood” in 2001, we tried "Try This” in 2003 - and then you left us without even a note.
Now that we know that you’re okay, we want to say thank goodness you’re okay, congratulations on your marriage, and thanks for this great new album.
Lead off single and first track "Stupid Girls” is a scathing commentary on the extra-skinny (and bulimic) popular girls (and celebrities) who would do anything to extend their 15 minutes of fame, while second track "Who Knew” immediately takes down the pace, P!nk style, about lost love.
"I wish I could touch you again
I wish I could still call you a friend
I'd give anything”
Third track "Long Way to Happy” is another song about break-ups and recovery, and very emotionally done. Another sad song follows with "Nobody Knows”, and then she controversially takes on George W. Bush with her open letter about poverty and homelessness.
Other can’t-miss tracks are the title track, and the up tempo and often naughty tracks that follow it, such as "Cuz I Can”; my favorite (albeit expletive ridden) "Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely)” and second single "U & Ur Hand” which would stop a pick-up artist dead in his tracks. Listen up also for the hidden track with her Dad, which he wrote, according to P!nk, back in Vietnam about 40 years ago, and was the first song she ever performed.
The UK album has two extra tracks "Fingers” and "Centerfold”, two songs that make it worthwhile getting the UK version of this album.
The songs on this album more than prove that P!nk’s not dead, but still ready to tell it like it is.Amanda Richards, April 4, 2006

If you're a fan of Pink, you'll like this one, but the watered down sanitized censorship of a few words is really very annoying so get the explicit version. Parents and other language sensitive types, you can tell what she's saying by context despite the sanitation work.
The covers of the Janis Joplin tunes suit her style and voice.

In Concert: The Party's Just Begun Tour

This CD is recorded live at a Cheetah Girls concert--so it makes a nice collector's item for those who attended this last year. There's only one new song ("Falling for You"). They sing all the hits from the two movies.
The sound quality isn't fantastic with some very hallow-sounding microphones. Plus the fact that Raven-Symone isn't singing with the group means that the sound in the live concert is a bit different from the movie soundtracks. But this album is successful at what it's meant to be--a recording of a live concert where people can relive the experience.

Saving Abel - Canadian Tour Edition
Virgin
AISN B001SGEUQA (Tour Edition)
AISN B0013FSVD4 (original release)
I picked up this album on a whim. The cover of the Canadian Tour Edition caught my attention, and the fact that they were touring with and opening for Nickelback made it an intriguing endeavor. When I go to review and album, I tend to listen to nothing but it for a week or so and immerse myself in the sound, lyrics and mood of the album, both as individual pieces of music and as a collective cohesive whole. As such this is the only CD that has been in my car for a week now, and the mp3's I have listed to off and on all day at work.
At first I thought it was an ok album. Good sound, interesting lyrics and overall ok. I was not disappointed but at first I was not amazed either. That changed about the second day. The more I listed to the album, and assessed it as a whole the more impressed I became with the artists who created this work. The band formed in 2004 in Corinth Mississippi. It is composed of and eclectic electric sound of the lineup of guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor, and drummer Blake Dixon, lead singer Jared Weeks and Jason .
The sound is not as heavy or dark as Nickelback, and for a band with their first big album they have a sound that is uniquely their own. The lyrics are poignant and moving, from the ballad's Drowning and Sailed Away to the rock anthems of In God's Eyes and Beautiful You. The sound goes from soft to hard to very hard rock, yet remains a unified whole. I am greatly impressed with this first studio release from Saving Able. It is a great album for driving, partying or just hanging out and studying, or for hanging on the back porch with some friends, some brews on the long summer evenings. It has an explicit lyrics warning on the album, but compared Nickelback's Dark Horse this album is very tame in it's lyrics. More hint and innuendo rather than blunt explicit content.
The difference between the Canadian tour edition and the standard edition is an extra slip case cover with different cover art, and a second ep CD with 3 songs, acoustic versions of 18 Days, Addicted and exclusive content release of Only Human. The greatest strength of this album is every artist is featured on different pieces and different parts of some songs. The band is a collective and each member is a strength, where the sum of the parts if greater than the whole. Overall a terribly impressive first album!

This is the must-have concert from the amazing P!nk, featuring 2 hours of video and 21 great live tracks. The big surprise for me on this concert was the addition of some incredible circus-class acrobatics, as P!nk sings live while doing some very demanding stunts suspended 50 feet above the stage, no net,in a routine I could only compare to Cirque de Soleil. This woman is in top physical shape, and her vocals have never been better. From heart-wrenching ballads like "Dear Mister President" to pop-rock like "Get the Party Started" and "Trouble", this eclectic performer is definitely on top!
I purchased this disc from Amazon to get the UN-EDITED version. It is not that I crave explicit lyrics, P!nk does not use them to excess, but does not hold back when it is appropriate to her statement, and I just cannot see buying a concert that is bleeped as found at WMart. Why they can sell uncut splatter films, but feel compelled to censor musical artists is beyond me...Amazon comes through with the uncut version as the artist intended. Even on this "explicit contents" disc there are a couple of bleeps in the bonus feature footage probably because it aired on MTV, but at least none during the concert itself.

Rocker P!nk comes to Europe with her excellent 'Try This Tour' for 2004 and is definetly nearer to the next Madonna than a Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears!...
Hitting the radios with stompers like 'Trouble', 'God is a DJ', 'Feel Good Time' and angry 'Last to know' she is definetly at her best. This DVD includes all of these songs and loads loads more, P!nk has over 4 outfits which are very raunchy and cool!(Goes with show). Entering the stage in a bird cage, pole dancing strippers, lap dancing for a fan and simulated sex with 'Lady Marmalade' blow up dolls.......CRRRAAAAAAZZZYY! But we LOVE it!!!!!!!! Carry on Pink.
DEFINETLY 'TRY TH!S'!!!...

Pink: Funhouse Tour - Live in Australia (2009)

Let me start this off by making it clear that I'm not like most others that would be reviewing a Pink cd or concert video.
I am a middle-aged man in my 50s. I'm not exactly her demographic and I'm not a dirty old man either. I'm a retired musician and still make a buck or two as a writer and I wrote Pink off as another of the cookie cutter pop princesses that have littered the music business ever since Madonna first got watered down by Brittany Spears. Then I heard/saw the video for "Don't Let Me Get Me" and realized that she was anything but cookie-cutter. It was her Declaration of Independence from what the music industry wanted her to be. I bought the cd the next day and heard "Family Portrait." From that point on I was a fan. Good music is hard to find and Pink makes some VERY good music.
Now, on to the Blu-Ray concert. It doesn't look like Pink knows what she wants to be when she grows up. The first handful of songs she performs are in the standard diva mode we've seen from hundreds of others from Cher on down. With a big flashy stage and a heavily choreographed dance troupe she bounces and bops through some pretty generic modern dance music. In the midst of this is "Don't Let Me Get Me" and another of her big hits, "Just Like a Pill." Although the original rock arrangement sneaks in here and there the songs are designed to get her target audience of teenaged girls jumping and happy. There isn't anything wrong with any of this section if you're in the age group that likes that sort of thing. Understand, it's just not the sort of thing I'm into. It's also the sole reason I docked the video the 1/2 point in my subject header.
BUT!
No matter how old you are - even if you're an old coot "enduring" this video with your kids or grandkids, DO NOT LEAVE THE ROOM. There is an absolutely gorgeous extended piano movement that is placed to allow Pink time for a costume change. When she re-emerges the pianist (who is also the musical conductor) and the violinist join Pink for a slightly altered and riveting version of "Family Portrait." From this point forward you are in for a rare feast to the ears and eyes. There is a very personal acoustic mini-set in which Pink plays several songs dealing with the heartache of the failure of her first marriage. They are sprinkled with some lengthy banter with the audience that is just a touch too long in parts, but the songs themselves are nothing short of gorgeous. The fact that her voice isn't pure and perfectly pitched makes the emotional tone of them all the more vital and real. As a performer myself, I wondered how she was going to be able to transition back into giving her audience more of what they came to see. She does it by a lesser-known Led Zeppelin song that interweaves gentle vocals with sudden explosions of the heavy metal that made the Zep legendary. She handles the very difficult transitions in vocals extremely well, doing Robert Plant proud, disappearing during the final extended solo for another costume change. From that point forward she and the band kick into high gear. As others have mentioned, she does indeed perform "Bohemian Rhapsody" in its entirety only unlike Queen, she and the band remain on stage and sing through the very difficult operatic central section. The song is subtly enhanced with some of Queen's original vocal tracks but the live singers MORE than hold their own. Just when you begin to wonder if Pink isn't human at all, her voice breaks for a brief moment toward the end. She smiles over at the drummer with a brief, "what can you do" look and then finishes the song perfectly. Almost any other performer would have been finished at that point, knowing they'd taken it as far as they could. Pink is literally still getting warmed up.
In addition to kicking up the energy even further, you should keep in mind that Pink also (well harnessed because of insurance requirements) executes a fairly intricate single trapeze act some 25 feet above the floor WHILE SINGING. Although lip synching is rampant amongst female vocalists nowadays, Pink does NONE of it. You can hear her gasping for breath as the songs and athletics progress. She even tosses off a joking threat that she's going to start lip synching so she can do 9 shows a week with matinees.
The lady performs for almost 2 solid hours and never once lets up. Her voice only falters once or twice during the entire night and more than once she performs lengthy acrobatics high above the stage and audience. This is a woman at the absolute peak of her performance capacity and she is one of the few people I've ever seen that could pull a show like this off once, let alone for an entire world tour.
The extra features range from being valuable glimpses behind the scenes to a somewhat silly explanation of the history of "shredding the nar." (Pinkspeak for playing face-melting guitar) Make no mistake. This lady is an artist at a time when most of her contemporaries are either complete studio-enhanced frauds or so self-obsessed with their own talents that they become intolerable. Pink is the real deal and (despite some four-letter language in her lyrics that might make you a little careful viewing the show around small children) this concert video is worth three times what you will pay for it. I don't care if you're a young teen lion or one of the tame and toothless tabby-cat baby boomers, this blu ray concert joins Stop Making Sense and The Last Waltz as one of the three absolute best concert videos on the market. It is a MUST see.
So is Pink a teeny-bop pop icon or a hard-edged rock queen that will help bring back the rock sound that has been dead for well over a decade? I don't think she knows. She shows both personalities at various points in the show.
I'm convinced that she doesn't know what she'll be when she grows up.
After watching her talent, athleticism and musical diversity in this concert I deeply hope she never finds out.
