(More customer reviews)It was based on this CD & the video that I saw Purple in Concert in April 2001 for the 1st time since 1976 (with Tommy Bolin). Guitarist supreme Steve Morse plays "name that riff" before hurtling into the ultimate riff "Smoke On The Water" with his amazing guitar playing which is truly the highlight. Ian Paice & Roger Glover are as tight as ever, Paicey probably playing better now than ever before and that's saying something (I'm speaking as an ex-drummer and a huge fan of Paicey's playing). Ian Gillan is in fine voice with some strange "Stream of conscience" babbling introductions between songs and Jon Lord as always the keyboard virtuoso. The band is clearly having fun with Morse in the group and the addition of less obvious & much forgotten classics like "Bloodsucker" and "Pictures Of Home" as well as some newer stuff from "Abandon" are more than a pleasant surprise. It's great to see them evolving their song set on stage. I'm always looking for more Purple CD's as they come out and I'm delving back into import stuff not available here in Australia. This is the "2001 3 CD version" with a CD Rom component only available on this "Tour Version." The CD Rom contains a "photo tour" of Deep Purple's 1999 Tour of Australia & Europe + a 20 minute Audio interview with Ian Gillan. This version's booklet differs greatly from the great one issued with the standard 2CD release (4 pages instead of 12! plus no back cover picture & spine labelling) which is a very disappointing - I took 1 star off because I rated the packaging as very important but aside from that it's otherwise a highly recommended CD if you can get hold of it!!
