(More customer reviews)This CD, along with ALL the titles in the Pure Jerry series are now available again, over at the Dead's official site ([...]). Don't pay the outrageous prices the crooks selling "new & used" copies here are asking for. In fact, this was the first new Pure Jerry release in several years, and it just came out this year (2009). Shameful that someone would try to ask $35 here for a single disc!
As for this set, an acoustic Jerry (with John Khan) show from '86, Jerry sounds a little ragged at times (he would end up in a coma later that year) but it's still a fine performance with some great songs. Well worth having - you can never have too much Jerry music - just buy it at dead.net and save a bunch of money!

The setting is the wonderful 2,000-seat Marin Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael, the last of 12 acoustic shows John and Jerry played that winter. It'd been a solid tour, with sold-out concerts in a number of cool East Coast venues. But this was a hometown show - literally - so the air was both relaxed and festive. The twelve songs collected here on a single disc are the complete two-set show from that night, nearly 70 minutes of music; a nice blend of old folk tunes, a Dylan number and Hunter-Garcia classics. Particularly noteworthy in that last category are the epic "Bird Song" and rockin' "Run for the Roses." Soundboard copies of this show have not been in circulation before.
