(More customer reviews)Something about the concert venues brought out some of the best recorded performances by The CJB here. Zoot Sims, who filled out the sax section on tenor, was in top form. Gerry Muligan, Bob Brookmeyer (on valve trombone), Conte Candoli and others contribute memorable solos.
I bought this album new and played along with Zoot, as best I could. It's expensive to get a brand new copy on CD, as I did, but even more expensive to get a new vinyl copy. If you're a fan of Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, The Concert Jazz Band or just a fan of big band jazz - I think this album is a must-have.
