(More customer reviews)Before you drop the coin to purchase this box set note the DVDs are PAL even though the encoding is region free. That means you will most likely have trouble watching this on a North American DVD player and possibly a DVD-ROM drive on a computer as North America's standard is NTSC.
Fans of the Young Gods can experience them at their most eclectic on this release. Enjoy!
Newcomers take note and seek something more accessible like TV Sky or either of the Ipecac releases.
The Young Gods have been under appreciated by US audiences. Hearing and seeing the discs in this offering clearly shows how they have matured and expanded as a group and as musicians, breaking from the industrial stereotypes and being a great rock band. The Young Gods have come a long way from the drummer/sampler/vocals origins as they incorporate acoustic instruments, Kurt Weil, a small orchestra, and a hip-hop MC. Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Fantomas, Peeping Tom, Tomahawk, Lovage, etc.) makes an appearance (he did release a couple YG albums --Second Nature and Super Ready/Fragmente-- on his Ipecac label earlier in this decade).
The only annoying aspect of this box set is the tri-fold paper sleeves the discs come in, which makes it a little difficult to get to the DVDs without getting fingerprints on the disc.

Limited six disc (three CDs + three PAL/Region 0 DVDs) collectors audio/video set housed in square box. This collection, released to celebrate their 25th Anniversary, features three very different recent live performances by the band: the special evening at Montreux Jazz Festival in 2005, with the Lausanne Sinfonietta Orchestra (and Mike Patton as surprise guest), the (unreleased) collaboration with the US experimental Hip-Hop heavy weights Dlek from summer 2007 and a wild electric live show at the Rote Fabrik.
