(More customer reviews)Some may be familiar with this name from the recent Dawn Upshaw recital in Paris given in homage to this now obscure chanteuse. For most Jane Bathori is someone you may have read about at the most, for her recordings were only made grudgingly late in her celebrated career. She is remembered today for the influence she had on composers and singers of her day and to follow. On this recording you may expect jarring sound and a voice that will take a little getting used to -- be not deterred! What follows is a lesson in simplicity and economy of singing that never wavers in a series of French songs that in most cases lack available modern recordings and in each case deserve to be part of the mainstream French repertoire. I could not rate this less than 5/5 because I cannot imagine any lover of French melodies would not be left panting for more.Unfortunately, that's all we'll ever hear of this completely distinctive artist.
