"50th Anniversary Tour" by the Woody Herman THUNDERING HERD is the Best JAZZ CD I have Ever heard. The Power and Preciseness of the Brass, lead by monster Lead Trumpeter Roger Ingram and Lead Bonist John Fedchock, is a perfect backdrop for the classic Tough/Mean unique sound of the Herd SAX section - 3 Tenors & a Bari - NO TINNY Alto's allowed! Hear Tenor player FRANK TIBERI do Central Park West, Woody favorite song - what feeling!! Bari man Mike Brignola shines with several solos throughout, and holds down the Bottom of the Section with Power and Class. You MUST hear (takes several times to fully understand/appreciate it) the last cut, Monk's EPISTROPHY - it doesn't get any better than this - what an arrangement, John Fedchock! What a BAND, THE THUNDERING HERD!!!!! PS: The "Woody's Gold Star" CD is also Great - same time-frame, mostly same musicians - a must too.
