Kevin James - Sweat the Small Stuff (2001) Review

How big are muffins going to get before we join hands across America?!?!?
Kevin James - Sweat the Small Stuff has to be the funniest stand-up that I have seen in all my years, and it's not just funny when you watch it either! When you get excited about having exact change at the drive through, or when you see your food coming at a restaurant you'll know why!You just can't go wrong with this DVD, you will watch it over and over and over again and still laugh till you drop. Then you'll go to the airport and laugh even more when you see some of the things in real life! I Highly recommend this DVD to anyone who likes to laugh, you don't have to be a Kevin James fan to enjoy his stand up comedy. You'll end up buying this for your friends, family (97% family friendly), and neighbors and they will love you for it!
The bonus material has some appearances of Mr. James on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which are pretty fun too. Kevin is like the fun brother inlaw that gives you a reason to attend those dreaded family functions.
Kevin James rated number 89 on Comedy Centrals 100 funniest stand up comedians, IMHO he's WAY funnier than that, he should have ranked in the low teens!
When I'm mad and someone asks for a phone number, I use BAD phone number rhythm, just to annoy them and it makes me feel better. Thanks Kevin!

John Pinette - I Say Nay Nay Review

This man is funny, there is no doubt about it. I love him. However, after just purchasing this DVD and his "I'm Starving" DVD, I feel like I've been taken. If you purchase any of his DVD's, purchase "I'm Starving." You will get over an hour full of great side splitting laughs and it has almost the exact same content of "I Say Nay Nay" plus the material on "I"m Starving." It's like John came back from Broadway and refined his act and made it better. Had I known that "I'm Starving" contained the same content as the other, I would only have purchased it.

Robin Williams - Live on Broadway (2002) Review

Robin Williams - Live on Broadway (2002)

Whether it's parading around on stage in a frenzy or breaking out into one of many possible impressions/accents, it simply does not get any better than Robin Williams Live when it comes to gut-wrenching laughs.
Williams goes all out in all of his live performances. This particular night he performs live on Broadway (the culmination of a 20+ city national tour, and marking the conclusion of his triumphant, and much-heralded return to the "stage" in over 16 years). And what is the verdict??? BRILLIANCE!! The same brand of raunchy, charismatic, no holds-barred, yet very intelligent humor Williams has been known for.
ONE THING NEEDS TO BE POINTED OUT: Williams' energy is unparalleled in his stand-up work and is NOTHING like his theatrical roles (from Flubber to Insomnia), which only seem to stifle the madman lurking beneath. With uncensored, and essentially unscripted stand-up, Robin is able to reveal his TRUE SELF. However, this is not some mindless rant... Williams seems to emerge from a shell he's been keeping himself in... commentating on social and political issues of the day (from foreign relations, biological warfare, sex, and even sports).
Where this "movie" truly earns 5 STARS is in Williams's performance itself. Sadly, comics today go through "ho-hum" HBO specials like candy (I will not name names), giving audiences and viewers 60-65 minutes. Williams goes non-stop for 2 hours!! And as a result becomes so drenched in sweat by the end, you begin to wonder how he's still standing!
Material-wise, I feel there is no one better, with Williams delivery of quips, jokes, and punchlines only rivaled by George Carlin, and the shows of Eddie Murphy from the early to mid 1980s.
The DVD package, as many other DVDs seem to nowadays, comes with more than anyone could have expected, with behind-the-scenes broadcasts, and a full interview with the maestro himself. The picture and sound quality are superb and nothing seems to have been lost in the transfer.
Bottomline: though perhaps crude at some points, I think that ANYONE with at least a partially open mind and a love for laughs will enjoy this movie. Take it from my mother (a 52 year-old Frenchwoman not necessarily in tune with "hip society") sitting crying from laughter, "He is the best!"

Rodney Carrington: Live at the Majestic Review

Rodney Carrington: Live at the Majestic

If George Strait started doing stand up it would be something like Rodney Carrington(Obviouly George would have to go 'blue' with the language. lol). With the jeans, shirt and cowboy hat, he is not far from being a country singer - and he can sing as well as be funny. I'm new to the world of Rodney so I cannot really compare this DVD to anything he's done in the past but now I am a new fan.
The songs are the most entertaining part of his show and, if you don't listen to the lyrics too closely, you'd swear you was watching a George Strait acoustic show. By that I mean the guy can actually carry a tune - the comedy is not in his bad singing but in the lyrics. The way he sings with funny facial expressions is hillarious and his piano player sideman getting into the act as well by going off on tangents singing until Rodney stops him. I am not easily offended at all so if you are, this guy is not for you. Funny is funny, if you can't handle profanity or sexual references then you should probably stick to something like Bill Cosby. Otherwise, this DVD is well worth buying and it makes you wonder how far Rodney would get if he actually turned into a serious singer(which in the bonus materials on the DVD, he says he has no intention of doing).
The bonus feature is entertaining too. You get to see Rodney meet the fans, hang out backstage and hear a few new songs not on the stand-up show including a 'serious' song he wrote about a friend of his who passed away. Be sure and listen to that one.
A very funny and entertaining DVD unless your a fuddy duddy who can't handle language.
