When I had to give this album a rating, I almost gave it a subjective four stars. I thought, if every song on the album was perfect, I'd give it five stars ... But then something struck me. This album is so radically different, so truly new, that it deserves a five star rating. How many artists have ever been able to reinvent themselves as successfully as Eric Clapton? Very, very few. And I'm not judging his success by the album's rating on the charts, or how much money he'll make off of it. Eric's career is so well established that it's written in the stars. I'm judging his success by the songs and workmanship on the album itself. His voice has grown to fit him, and his vocal range is astounding, especially after going back and listening to his early vocal work with The Bluesbreakers, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes and Blind Faith. Yes, his guitar work is subtle on this album, but subtle like the brush strokes of Michelangelo on the Sistine Ceiling. Volume ! isn't everything, sometimes softness can be more powerful. "River of Tears" is a song for anyone who has ever suffered a loss. Go someplace quiet and just listen to it. It will wash over you like a gentle hand, wiping your pain away. And that's what this album is really all about. Clapton discusses it in the Pilgrim tour book, how most of the songs were inspired by a recent love he lost. Music, to Mr. Clapton, is a means of healing. "Circus", a song he wrote about his son Conor, proves that Eric is still healing from the loss of his son, and probably always will be. But there are high volume songs on this album, too. "Sick and Tired", a Clapton-penned blues rocker is an electrified tribute to the Texas Blues of Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Clapton's playing on this one is absolutely jubilant. And "She's Gone" is pure Clapton dynamite. Just listen to it. Basically, Eric took a chance and laid it all out for this album. He t! urned a page, and tried a new musical direction. His sound! is still there, but it has somewhere to go other than backwards. And though the songs are heavy and often sad, they're ultimately an exercise in moving on. Eric Clapton has had the blues, but he's making music about them. That's what it's all about.

Mariah Carey is at her best in this deeply emotional album. the lead single, through the rain, is an inspirational song that everyone can relate to. other tracks, such as lullaby, the one and you got me are the perfect example of what is meant by MARIAH's songs are never boring! the work simply drips with style and beauty.
1.through the rain: a ballad written by the songstress and showcases her amazing voice.
2. boy (i need you: a nice funky song that samples cam'rons summer hit oh boy in a good way.
3. The one: Mariah and JD did one hell of a job on this stunning song, the lyrics, the music, the singing; you name it this song has it.
4. Yours: a beautiful catchy ballad which has the same feeling of thank god i found. straight up hit.
5.You Got Me feat. Jay-Z and Freeway: simply great. the song is a one the albums highlights, it has a good beat to it.
6. I Only Wanted: no matter how much i praise this song it will be an underestimation for it is sooooooooo beautiful. sorry but i can't be objective about it. a Mariah calssic with spanish guitar and the sound of the shore it has the same feeling of My all and after tonight (maybe more mature) a #1 if ever released.
7. clown: a nice hip hop song that artistically smashes eminem's face.
8. My Saving Grace: a gospel masterpeice which we haven't heard from Mariah since anytime you need a friend. straight from the heart (if you cry easily don't listen to it in public)
9. You Had Your Chance: nice hip hop song, has good base it will make you want to get your groove on.
10. Lullaby: a song very close to the roof from the butterfly album, sexy, infctious song. my favorite.
11. Irresistible (Westside Connection): features Ashanti, a great song again modern hip hop is here but it doesn't hurt.
12. Subtle Invitation: a soulful down-to-earth song that has a definet Stevie wonder feeling to it. jazzy upbeat.
13. Bringin' On The Heartbreak: a cover of def leppard's hit, need i say more? ok it's great.
14. Sunflowers For Alfred Roy: beautiful elegy dedicated to her late father very intense and emotional.
15. Through The Rain (Remix) feat. Kelly Price and Joe: a beautiful r'n'b remix very well produced and the choice of guest artits couldn't be more appropriate.
a great album will be enjoyed by everybody it's directed to all styles pop, adult contmporary, r'n'b, jazz and even rock! a must have in any decent music library.

No Shoes No Shirt No Problems (Bonus Track) Review

No Shoes No Shirt No Problems (Bonus Track)

I was hoping when I heard the title of this CD that the cover would have Kenny Chesney with no shoes and no shirt. No such luck. It is another great effort by Kenny though, and this CD is nearly perfect.

The songs range from the rockin' ("Young") to the touching ("The Good Stuff") and the inspiring ("Big Star"). The title track is my personal favorite and I hope it will be single on radio. The last track is the most haunting though, with some help from buddy Tim McGraw, Kenny pours his heart out and it kind of ends the CD on a down note - the reason for subtracting a star.

Kenny Chesney's star is on the rise because he is an awesome singer, but at the same time a guy next-door type. This CD is great!

Make Yourself Review

Make Yourself

If you were to ask me, "What CD has left the biggest impression on you over the years?" I would say quite simply, Incubus' Make Yourself. Make Yourself is one of the most diverse pieces of mainstream rock music I've ever heard. Songs such as Make Yourself and Out From Under brings all the intensity you could imagine this band has to the table. Songs such as Privilege and Pardon Me are hard driving rock songs that are completely memorable. Then there's songs such as The Warmth and I Miss You that are just so emotional and carry such a strong message that it's hard not to be a little bit touched. That's why Incubus has remained at the front of my favorites list.
Much has been said about Brand Boyd. Far and away he's my personal favorite vocalist. His vocals are so diverse and he doesn't shy away from experimenting. His lyrics are excellent. Sometimes inspirational, sometimes spiteful, and other times just weird, but you cannot deny he has talent. This band doesn't end at Brandon though. Mike Einzinger definitely knows his way around a guitar. He's also gotten progressively better with each further release. Dirk Lance (now departed) was at his peak on previous releases because he was more upfront but he's still there on Make Yourself and he still plays great. Jose Pasillas II is a great drummer. While not the best you'll ever hear he can hold his own. And then there's Chris Kilmore. He's been less and less a big part of the band since this CD but on here he really does his thing and does it well. Where turntables could overcrowd a song and become bland, Kilmore keeps them tasteful.
In my eyes this is the perfect example of a balanced CD. You have your heavy stuff, you've got the hard/melodic, and then you've got a few ballad-esque songs sprinkled in for good measures. Seeing as how I love all aspects of this band I can't single one type of song out that they play and say that's their best. I like the hard/melodic songs the best but to see them drop all the other types would be a bad decision on their part. Sure the slow sing-along Drive got them popular in the mainstream but songs like Pardon Me and more recently Megalomaniac have kept them relevent. You can't pin Incubus to one type of song, and one listen to Make Yourself is sure to prove that.
Seeing as how this is the Tour Edition, there is a tremendous extra for fans. That being a bonus acoustic CD. Granted it's only four songs and any fan has surely heard at least once. The first three tracks, Pardon Me, Stellar, and Make Yourself actually showed up on When Incubus Attacks Vol. I. And the orchestral live version of Drive is a solid track, much like the original.
My favorite songs are Privilege, The Warmth, Clean, I Miss You, and Pardon Me. Collectors are sure to find more value in this than the casual fan, but that's not to say a casual fan should look this over. If you've yet to buy Make Yourself than making an effort to find this would be a good decision. You get to see that Incubus is good whether they're playing heavy or acoustic. Other than the bonus disc though, nothing is changed. The booklet is the same, the back is the same (aside from the bonus disc part), nothing different. Definitely worth it though.

The California Alt-Metal band surprised many critics and fans by achieving success on their own terms, which included endless touring.
