Matchbox Twenty - Live from Australia (1998) Review

Matchbox Twenty Live in Australia is the best video ever! It brings out all the guy's personalities and has interviews with the entire band. It also has concert footage and music videos for Push, Back 2 good, real world, and long day. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan, or just looking for some laughs, this is one of the most amusing things i've ever seen. The concert footage includes a few songs that were not released in the US, as well as strictly concert preformances. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Radiohead - 7 Television Commercials Review

This is a no nonsense compilation of Radiohead videos. If you love radiohead, then you will love this collection. There are no interviews, no commentary, no background info; it is just back to back videos, which makes it a great tape. Watching the videos in succession, one realizes that this band is artful in all of its endeavors. These videos feel nothing like most of MTV, instead, these feel like mini-movies with an amazing soundtrack.
As the title suggests, it includes seven videos, so the tape is just over 1/2 an hour, about the perfect length of time to listen to some Radiohead with friends while explaining the meanings of "Fake Plastic Trees." The video includes the enigmatic video for "Just" that features a subtitled plot-line which is dropped at the final moment, leaving viewers awestruck with lots of questions. The video also includes "Paranoid Android," "Fake Plastic Trees" "No Surprises," "Street Spirit," "Karma Police" and "High and Dry".

Weezer - Deluxe Edition Review

Weezer - Deluxe Edition

When Weezer released the Blue Album back in 1994, Geffen only shipped 13 000 copies because they thought the album wouldn't be a big seller since almost no publicity was made for it. Rivers Cuomo and Matt Sharp even wrote a list of persons who would surely buy the album, and the list came up to more or less a hundred persons. They sold 90 copies in the first week... But after Undone was released as a single, the album sold all the copies that were in shops, and in the end they ended up selling 3 million copies of the album. The Blue Album became a classic, and then years later, here comes this deluxe re-release.
A lot of people are not sure wether they should buy it or not. I have to admit that it's really expensive, especially in Canada. At first I decided that I wouldn't buy it, since almost every Deluxe Edition is dissapointing (see the Velvet Underground and Nico...). But a friend gave it to me for my birthday (thanks to him) and I was really surprised by what I saw (and heard). First, the packaging. It's absolutely beautiful. It contains rare and beautiful pictures of the band, which are spread through the packaging itself and inside the 30 pages booklet. The booklet contains pictures of the band, hand-written lyrics to the songs of cd 1 and 2, a story written by Todd Sullivan about how he discovered the band and got them signed and finally detailed notes about all the b-sides featured in the second cd. The only thing that was a bit dissapointing about the booklet is that the pictures are sometimes too small and the lyrics to "I swear it's true" and "Paperface" are missing, for some reason.
There is not much to say about the Blue Album. Everyone knows it's a masterpiece. So let's talk about the second cd. It contains b-sides, live tracks, demos and unreleased songs from the Blue Album era. Some of the songs can be found on compilations, soundtracks or from the Internet, but it's nice to have them all on one cd with a slightly better sound quality. Listening to this cd from the beginning to the end seems to give the impression that you understand the Blue Album even better now. It's really, really interesting, and some of the songs are actually really good (see "No one else" acoustic version, "Paperface" and "Mykel and Carli"). The only "bad" thing about the second cd is the original album mix of "Say it ain't so", which is almost identical to the version we all know. But it's interesting to see the band "stripped down" on the Kitchen Tapes recordings.
You should buy this cd. It's really a trip through the musical world of Weezer and it brings you back in 1994 in a very strange way. I know it's expensive, but it totally worths the money. Once again, Weezer as delivered quality material.

New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall Review

Counting Crows has joined the trend of releasing your own bootlegs, made common by Dave Matthews and Pearl Jam, with this 15 track collection culled from the 2003 Crows European tour in support of the Hard Candy album. This is essentially a record for the true fans of the band, the ones who prefer Perfect Blue Buildings to Mr. Jones, the ones who appreciate the subtlety of Holiday in Spain, the ones who know the words to Richard Manuel is Dead. This is not a commercial album by any means, but can be a decent addition to your collection.
Sound quality is quite good for a live recording, the band is tight, and Duritz sounds less strained than he does when I have seen him live. The track selection delves heavily into Hard Candy tracks, which is logical considering this was the Hard Candy promo tour they were on at the time. A few classic tracks are thrown in like Omaha and Goodnight Elizabeth and Perfect Blue Buildings. Each song is performed quite well, Miami sounds especially good as does Richard Manuel Is Dead. Though there are some tracks I would have liked to hear, especially A Long December, I can't be too disappointed considering this was a fairly stealthy release with no massive publicity blitz. This was one released for the fans, not the hook hungry, rabid masses looking for the next commercial sensation. Overall this is a pleasing, relaxing album that makes for nice background music. I consider it a bonus until an album of new material comes out. Recommended for the serious Crows fan...

This release has to rank as one of the Best Hard Rock-Heavy Metal albums of the year, hands down!! Tesla has never really dissapointed music fans with any of their albums. Sure, they have released stronger albums compared to some of their others. But, even (Dare I say) their "weaker" releases are top notch, and put up against other 1980's acts...there is no competition what so ever! Tesla is, like many have said here, one of the most underated rock bands of our time, and I say YOU BET THEY ARE! They tour constantly, put out fantastic albums one after another, and place their fans first!!!! I've been A fan since the first album, and have never looked back. I have also seen them twice in concert. First time in October, 1987 warming up for Def Leppard, and in Early, 1989 warming up for Poison. Both times were jaw dropping incredible experiences!!!! The funny thing is, compared to other bands that were around back in the 80's, and are still putting out material, Telsa is head and shoulders above them all! But, you don't hear the hoopla on the radio and with the media like you now get with acts like Bon Jovi. Such A crime!! If you have never heard of Tesla, or your A new fan, BUY THIS ALBUM!! You will love it, from start to finish! It ranks up there with one of their strongest releases. If you already are A fan, then you probably have this, and know what I mean. If you don't own it, you are missing out on an incredible band, and A fantastic bunch of songs. It's not 1986 anymore...it's 2008...and Telsa is STILL blowing the doors off those other 80's bands, and even the new groups!! An A+ album. And congrats to the band, and A huge thank you for once again another incredible album!!

Telsa return in 2008 with their first new studio album since 2004's Into The Now, which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #31 and featured the mainstream rock hits: "Caught in a Dream" and "Words Can't Explain". Tesla is a Hard Rock band formed in Sacramento, California in 1984, and they have sold over 16 million albums in the US as of 2008. Forever More is their seventh studio album. This isTesla's first album to be produced by Terry Thomas since 1994's Bust a Nut. The album was engineered by Michael Rosen, who worked with the band on their Into the Now album and marks the first full album of original material for new guitarist Dave Rude.

In My Tribe Review

In addition to being the band that launched Natalie Merchant's career, 10,000 Maniacs were among the best of the late 1980s college rock groups that gained popularity in the wake of R.E.M.'s success. "In My Tribe" was the Merchant and Company's best album, containing the ace single "Like the Weather," and accompanying material that is just as strong. Other highlights are the child abuse take "What's the Matter Here," the tribute "Hey Jack Kerouac," and the catchy "Don't Talk." Unfortunately, the band pulled their wonderful cover version of Cat Stevens's "Peace Train" off of subsequent pressings of this album after Stevens's coversion to radical Islam and his support of Ayatolah Khomeni's call for Muslims to kill author Salmon Rushdie for publishing "The Satanic Verses." While I support the band's thinking, it robs the album of one of its best performances.
Overall, an excellent record that sounds as fresh today as when it was released in 1987.
